LOD including material swap

Problem: I have a bunch of cliffs that look dark (Glowing Sea). This is achieved via a material swap.

 

Yet the LOD returns them to bright again, since it relies on the associated LOD meshes which are bright

 

 

 

So is there any other solution except for

1. Creating New Cliffs and making new LOD meshes for them

2. Forcing "Full LOD" on every cliff?
