sillv
What's up guys Moving to a dorm soon so i'll be upgrading my current PC (built in 2007) to something more modern and compact. This thing is 6 years old already so most of the stuff in it is severely outdated... Here are the specs: (none oc'd)C2D (3.1GHz)EVGA GTX260 SC ('09 upgrade)4GB ram2x250GB 7200RPM(raid 0)1200P monitor Skyrim and Aion are pretty much the only games I actively play on my PC so i'm not too concerned about other stuff. Some performance numbers on these games:Skyrim (1200p + Ultra + FXAA + heavily modded) FPS = 15-25Aion (1200P + max settings + FXAA) FPS = 10-20(town) 40+(outdoors) Here are the X51 specs:i7 3770 (3.4 - 3.9 GHz)"OEM" GTX 660 (will upgrade to a GTX 770 later on if TDP is adequate)8GB ram256GB sammy SSD1200P monitor I can read benchmarks on the web all day but i'm more interested in hearing from someone else's personal experience with a similar upgrade(not necessarily a X51) . Will I be able to get a solid 45+ FPS with the mentioned settings after the upgrade? Also, I know I can build a PC for half the price with better specs and I have the know-how to but that's not i'm looking for right now. Thanks for any insight! On the whole, avoid Alienware though. Nothing but a crappy overpriced Dell unit, most of them don't even run well, and they have worse customer support than an ISP. kalikka
Isn't the x51 a small-form-factor rig? That means it's going to be a pain/almost impossible to upgrade the gpu later. If you want small PC, why not make a good rig inside Node 304 ITX-case? Erik005
Why not buy a good computer in one go, you're just going to lose money on this deal.

I bought an Alienware m14x laptop for $1000 less than a Macbook Pro I previously had, and the Alienware was WAY better too.I can run most games on high with 60fps (Skyrim with 130+ mods and tons of graphical enhancements: 60fps everywhere) and it hasn't stuffed up on me once... kalikka
You cant compare macbook and laptop, macbook has even worse price/value for gaming than AW...Its all about the GPU (and a little bit of CPU) for gaming. For example the X51 CPU is indeed one of the most powerful in the market but the GPU is not that good. (Well its good in a sense, but you could get a better one for the same price)

Not a mac person, but I have a friend with a mac that is bootcamped with windows 8 and it will run just about everything a max settings. That's a cool case. It reminds me of my old Shuttle XPC. I had a ATI x700 with 2GB ram that played everthing maxed when it was new and it was a little smaller than that Node 304 ITX-case. And he probably paid more than $2000 for it, whereas any PC can max any modern games for $1000.

The MacBook Pro is pretty intense if you get OSX off it. But yeah, paying too much for the same power is the base of the argument.
