Have you tried verifying your game files on steam?

Also, you might have steam re-run the system information thing it does.

Other than than, I would check to make sure your graphics drivers are updated and that your driver is communicating with your monitor.

i needed to upgrade my nvida thingy ^^ the problem is now fixed

how to do this sir.? i changed to radeon hd 6570 and skyrim wont run anymore (i got lots and lots of mod just to be clear)

Had the same problem, my fix was this.

1- Let the GPU handle everything for the game, do not let the game settings decide.(can be set by GPU)

2- Have the GPU handle "Display Scaling" instead of the display.

3- Edit SkyrimPref.ini to whatever display setting you want.(be reasonable and don't forget your screen aspect ration, otherwise you'll bring Dwarfs back)

FIXED

So, here's my issue:

When I open Skyrim, like I hit play, It brings up the "your display doesn't support the selected resolution" with the black box in the corner of my screen. It worked a few seconds ago, when I didn't turn windowed mode on. Ever since I turned windowed mode on, only windowed mode works, and I hate it. (I changed it thinking it would only display my taskbar and give me access to it but I was wrong.) So yeah, no idea what to do.

How I Fixed It

I right clicked the game in my steam library, clicked on properties on the bottom of the drop down, and clicked "verify integrity of game files." Thanks guys!
