Georgiegril
Well, I have to say that it often is easier to start a new installation, new game, then slow careful introduction of mods/other changes, than trying to fix a game that is broken.Personally I haven't updated to 1.9 yet, because I have had to start new games with every patch since 1.4 You are looking at a game that you haven't played in a while, so you have the new patch but old mods. Any of those mods that reference the update.esm may need to be updated in order to work properly. In addition, you are describing that lowering the graphics some did have some effect....And then the possibly random, possibly time related crashes. There is just a lot there to try to fix, and like you say, making some attempts at fixing it may in fact make matters worse. I have to say I think in the end you will save a lot of time and frustration by simply starting a clean install of the game, no mods or other changes, then adding one or two things at a time, running BOSS and playing a bit before adding the next few. In this way you will know exactly where to look if a problem occurs. Plus, there are a lot of really nice new mods (or nicely updated mods) that you will get to enjoy this way. If you start a clean install/new game and notice the periodic lagging even in vanilla, then it would be a good sign that the problem is resource allocation within your system. ShadowOrdo
Very good advice, i am going to consider it. I should have mentioned the majority of those mods were added when i made this new character. He is actually fairly new only 80 hours played level 44. Normally my games (only have another one on skyrim) go on for far longer then that. Only mods i added i would say are the UNP body, CBBE patch, and some of those character model that really just changed many companions appearances. I believe only other mods i added during my time of playing was the Dovakin relaxes too, immersive patrols, and my 3 lighting mods. speaking of lighting, just attempted to update Claralux from v2A to v4A, because BOSS said it was obsolete and MGE (the author) appeared to have cleanups in the update. When i re-installed it i followed installations but rather waiting 31 days i waiting around 13 or 14, even when dealing with waiting screen the freezes were happening quite often. so did not want to risk going to 31 and crashing somewhere around 25 hahah. other then that i followed install instructions... the curious thing is when install was finished i booted up Skyrim and sat in the tavern as i have been doing for 2 or 3 days now (my battle mage must be dealing with alcohol poisoning by now) but rather dealing with multiple freezes, on the first freeze the game crashed. Makes me wonder if one of your original guesses being the lighting mods causing the error is the source. I have not gotten to Climates of Tamriel yet or imaginator. Luckly i have had most of the day off and to myself to spend a whole lot of time going off the BOSS program cleaning up my mods. You should notice the majority of the errors are now gone. btw my performance was getting better on those freezes for while till i got around to Claralux, it was still happening no matter what but unless my hopeful mind was playing tricks on me i do think that clean up was helping slightly but something is still at the source i have not gotten to yet. The better whiterun mod i be willing to just trash if need be, but that Warzones mod is just at the core a reason i made this new file lol. Gonna take a break from this till tomorrow, i'll be thinking on what you mentioned and consider that new change up with Claralux also.
ShadowOrdo
yea this is appearing broken to me. After the faster crashes with Claralux i am unable to change the first freeze resulting in a crash. I uninstalled all 3 lighting affect mods one at a time to test what was causing it and by the time all 3 were done it still happens. Clean install seems the only option at this point. my problem is, i am not sure how to properly go about this. does this mean i must remove all my mods even from my nexus mod manager? will uninstalling them not be enough? do i need to delete too? Will SkSE need be removed? or can i leave it as is? I know i made .ini changes in the past, will this freshinstall reset them? I remember when i made my character i HAD to have Warzones installed in a fresh game to make sure it worked. I simply have never done this and would like to understand what happens when i do this. So bummed i will lose all my progress on my current character, was totally loving the advancements i made on him. Going to be hard to replicate my characters setup. Btw this will delete all character content saves correct?
Georgiegril
HI,If you want to avoid completely uninstalling/reinstalling Skyrim here is a guide on the STEP page about how to revert a game to vanillaA lot of thought and testing goes into STEP. This procedure should allow you to use your current Skyrim download, saving the time of a new download.(Personally I like the certainty of a complete uninstall/reinstall, but it does take more time!) I do not use STEP religiously, but I think there is a lot of very useful information there that might help you set up your new game to maximize performance and quality, so you might read through it.You would want to delete all your mods, savegames, ini files, etc. Any time you reintroduce old data into a new set-up, you could be simply recreating the cause of your crashes, which would render all the work you did to make a clean install worthless. Like the STEP guide says, it's good to make backups of your mod folder, data files, ini files, but I strongly suggest you do not just reapply them to the new game. Rather, use them as reference when making a new game.
