Mookeylama
i pretty much use a 55" tv for a monitor. gaming and browsing. the native res of the tv is 1920x1080 and that's what i game at. like skyrim is set to 1920x 1080 in the game launcher. but if i set the pc/monitor/tv to that res, then everything is too small. and changing font size is a pain, because it messes w/ programs, and u gotta log out to change it.so my question is, is it bad to have the pc set to a low res (i think i browse at around 1200x768 or such), and then switch to gaming at 1080i? i mean does it cause any problems in a game, or cause strain on a GPU? think i read once that the monitor, and the game should be set to same res. thanks! RatcatcherOfKvatch
It depends on the monitor. If it uses an electron beam to create images you can use any resolution the hardware can handle. If the screen is LCD where the pixels are in fixed locations on the screen matrix things won't look right unless you use your monitor's native resolution. Damage works the opposite way: as far as I know you can't hurt an LCD using the wrong resolution, but if you push an electron-gun-style CRT beyond spec it will damage it. I'm not an electronics expert so that's as much as I can tell you.
