No random dragons spawning

Hello everyone,

I started a new game with a lot of mods (152 .esps, modlist is in the spoiler) and I played around ~30 hours now. Everything runs fine (with an occasional CTD or freeze) except one problem:
There are no random dragon attacks.

I'm not sure what causes this, especially when all the other stuff is fine (like Dawnguard vampire attacks and unique Dragons). I have Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn installed and also finished the Quest "Dragon Rising".

But it almost has to be a mod or a mod conflict, I tested every suggestion from my other thread here: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/971246-no-random-dragon-attacks-any-help/ (sorry for opening another topic, but I didn't know how to move it to the technical support).

Does anyone have an idea what mods/mod conflicts could cause this or how I can find the cause myself? Deactivating mods to test it isn't that easy because it doesn't change anything in an old savegame and I always have to play until I finish "Dragon Rising".
I read every desription/readme and the mods should be compatible, but some of them have dirty edits. Should I just clean them?

Hi Kev,

I've got EXACTLY the same problem.

I also tried everything they told you in your other post.

No dragons to be found anywhere.

I'm at level 82 now and I've only got souls from the mountain top dragons and the ones in Dawnguard and Dragonborn.

I've searched the internet, there are others with the same problem, but no solutions.

I'll keep looking over here if someone comes up with something.

I'm using version 1.9.29.0.8

With all the unofficial patches in the right loadorder.

Good luck, hope someone finds something.

I'm a bit too far in the game to start all over again :)

Ron

Yep, I saw that problem over the internet, too. The interesting thing is, I just tried a new game with no mods at all, played until "Dragon Rising" and no random dragons again. I also restored my default .ini.

My only "workaround" at the moment is using Deadly Dragon Assault (works like random dragon spawns), but if anyone knows how to solve this I would appreciate it ;)

I had this exact same problem and could not figure out how to fix it. Then, randomly, Lucia disappeared. When I console-commanded myself to her location, she was fighting a giant with a dead dragon on the ground. This was weird, and I reloaded, but it made me thing that this dead dragon was still somehow "chasing" my character even if it did not exist in any way that I could normally interact with. Given the Giant fight, it made me think that it was some bug with Hearthfire.

So, figuring I needed to reset the random dragon counter, I did the following:

I went to that island off the north coast of Solstheim where there always is a spawning Serpentine Dragon with a soul (it is an unmarked location, it's not the word wall you need for the Solstheim main quest). It has a bunch of Horkers on it too. I fought the dragon, killed it, took its soul. Then I went to Arcwind Point, and that dragon spawned normally, killed it. Then I fast traveled around Skyrim from village to village until a dragon randomly spawned. One eventually did in good old Riverwood. (In between I got too close to a dragon word wall and fought a dragon without a soul, I don't know if that had anything to do with fixing the problem, my guess is no. You need to kill a non-quest dragon with a soul to restart the dragon counter, I believe.)

Anyway, try that, and see if it fixes it.

I think the problem started after the latest patch where they reduced the number of dragons that spawn after you finish the main questline (not sure the number). It interferes somehow with Hearthfire, because my random monster attacks on my houses have also stopped. In fact, I think what happened is that a random dragon attack on my house was supposed to happen, but broke because of the patch, and then stayed broken. But who knows, I don't know how to test this stuff, and it could be something else.

Do you know which patch it was please?

I'm kinda' bored running around and NEVER finding dragons to fight, so hopefully disabling the patch would sort it.

Thanks.

Did you ever get a proper resolution for this? I've got the same issue and not quite sure what to do.

Load order is below. Everything is patched up to my knowledge

GameMode=Skyrim

I have the problem reversed..... there are no dragons at dragon lairs. there are replacers like skeletons or necromancers but there aren't any dragons on those points. I tried already discovered dragon lairs and I discovered some new dragon lairs but non seem to have any dragons...... It's really anti-climactic you know!!!!

I have the same problem and it's most probably a mod conflict, as everything was fine until I loaded "Undeath". At least one other user has reported the same error and blamed it to this mod. This is especially vexing as it doesn't help to uninstall the mod, at least it didn't solve the problem for me - the dragons still don't spawn. So most likely, the savegames are bugged. I have loaded an older savegame with a different character, that was completely untouched by "Undeath" but had all the other mods and the dragons were there again. So my best guess is, that at least in my case it's a mod conflict with "Undeath".

Go indoors and wait for 30 days. That solved the problem for me.

Most likely, there is a dead dragon corpse somewhere in the game world that was not deleted properly. That corpse is preventing new random spawns from occurring. Waiting 30 days indoors causes all outdoor cells to reset, so the dragon corpse will get deleted, no matter where it is.

This worked like a charm for me. Not only fixed the non-spawning dragons but one other npc-spawning problem I knew about and two others I hadn't really noticed till they started working.
