Clondike14
Hi Dubious & M48A5, I will just alter the files I don't need and then launch the game and use the console to see if FNVSE is working. (Fingers Crossed). I will post results
Clondike14
Hi ,I removed the nvse_steam_loader.dll as it was not needed as you say. When running the game I used the console command GetNVSEVersion but it showed getNVSEVersion not found ? I typed the command with an upper case G not a lower case G ? So basically it shows NVSE not running. i'm puzzled why it shows lower case g and not the upper case G I typed? Regarding rerunning the 4GB patcher, I have it installed via Vortex but not sure how to re-run it? Do I Remove the 4GB patcher and reinstall it via Vortex again? This is turning into a saga, sorry for this.

Since it is not a mod but and executable. Your best bet is to install it manually by following the instructions on the description page. Also, did you install the VC++ Runtime Redistributable x86 and follow the rest of the instructions?

Clondike14
Hi There, It can be best described as a total fail ! Game wouldn't even go past the options/datafiles/settings screen. I manually installed the 4Gb patch as per instructions on the page. setting it to Admin .I installed/ran firstly the VC++ Runtime redistributable x86 ---No joy game would not start. running the NVSE via the vortex button again reports "couldn't inject DLL. I thought the x86 version was for 32bit machines ? I then downloaded and installed/ran the x64 version, rebooted and same result game will not get past the options screen. Do I really have to play this game without NVSE as it's become a nightmare for everyone involved in getting this to work ? Perhaps I just need to avoid all the mods requiring NVSE which is a shame. dubiousintent
You are reporting a series of "fails". You have to go back and resolve each fail before you can proceed with anything that depends upon that install. You can't just ignore any one of them and hope everything will miraculously turn out okay. You are giving very generalized reports. A mere report of "failed" tells us nothing bout why it failed. We need details to help. So let's take them in order. As you are just trying to get the basic game to start, leave Vortex out of the equation. Launch the game from the FalloutNV.exe file (assuming you have already run the "Launcher" at least once so it detected your hardware configuation. Do not run the Launcher after that or it will delete your INI files in the "Users" folder and create new ones). First you should always install any "runtime redistributable" or "libraries", as many things depend upon them. What was the error with the "VC++ Runtime x86"? You can install both the x86(32-bit) and x64(64-bit) versions as they are placed in different locations. This is completely independent of the game. Test the game starts and gets as far as the main menu. If it won't, strongly consider reinstalling by following the 'Restoring to "Vanilla"' entries in the 'First Timer Advice' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If you do re-install, then run the "FalloutNVLauncher.exe" once. As you aren't using Vortex at this point, select all the vanilla and DLC "data files" under "options". Then install NVSE manually. Then (restore the backed up version of FalloutNV.exe if necessary) run the 4GB Patcher again. After patching, launch the game using FalloutNV.exe. It should be that easy. Please work through either the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' or the 'Solutions to "Crash To Desktop" (CTD) problems' sections in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. In particular, "Issue - Vanilla game Hangs on startup". Only once you can get the game to start a "new game" without error should you try to get Vortex to launch the game and add mods. Vortex errors should be discussed in the Vortex support forum. (Most of the people providing support here don't use Vortex.) -Dubious-
Clondike14
Hi Dubious,Thanks for the advice. I am starting from scratch with a fresh GOG install then following all the steps suggested. I will test as I go and install the recommended 4GB patch, the runtime redistributables (both) and follow your advice. Hope with this fresh start to finally get the NVSE working for FNV to end all our frustrations. I will try to be methodical and careful and post back when completed. Thank you again for your advice and patience.
Clondike14
Hi All, I started a fresh install of GOG FNV and am still getting the pop up telling me the NVSE "cannot inject DLL". so for now I am continuing to play FNV without NVSE though I will keep trying the recommended fixes. dubiousintent
Make sure you are using the version of 4GB Patcher I linked earlier. Versions prior to that one were not compatible with GOG. Make sure you are launching by running the "FalloutNV.EXE" file and not the "NVSE_Loader" file ("all it does is inject the dll into the process and terminates after doing so"). You are getting that "cannot inject" error when you attempt to run the game outside of Vortex? If so, I would ask Roy on the comments page of the 4GB Patcher mod. -Dubious-
