RoNin1971 Posted March 13, 2021 Share Posted March 13, 2021 (edited) Back in 2018 I started modding Vault 88 in an attempt to make it bigger (in all directions) amongst other things.But after several failed attempts i gave up and didn't play or mod fo4 until last december.As i had a lot of free time I decided to give it one more try, only this time its not going to be a vault 88 mod, but a totally new vault setlement, similar to vault 88.This has a lot of benefits, imho, for me (nothing to worry about breaking) and you (no need to start over / load a save from before entering vault 88) I was well on my way, when i somehow broke the cell, again, and some stuff like circuitbreakers no longer work, so I had to start over again. I am however determined to finish my mod this time, no matter what. That's a promise :happy: Currently I'm working on a bunch of models, mostly retextured versions of existing cave, rock & cliff models. With some changes here and there. (using material editor, nifskope, blender & OutfitStudio) I created a new geardoorroom, based on the vault 111 version, mixed with the vault 114 version (which is used everywhere else, including 88). This one still needs a bit of work and I'm still thinking about adding a window in place of the 'welcome sign'. Another model i always wanted is a wide door to fit with the wide door passage found within the game/ck, and i actually just finished the model, textures etc. and it works perfect in game. I might add it to the workshop, but that would require the passage too. If anybody out there has any ideas, requests, or help to offer (I could use some script-guru :happy:) let me know. I'll try to keep you all posted on my progress, right here. Some more info on my plans:A totally redesigned entrance area, with multiple ways to enter the cave system. (including a secret doorway)Allow users to turn on/off the lights within the main cave, which is much bigger as the 88 cave.The main passage into the cave is at level 6 from the ground and it goes up another 6.There's (going to be) an elevator to take you down to the floor level, with another entrance into the cave.Add some pre-build parts (mostly for connecting tunnels) to turn on/offAdd (scrapable) stalactites & stalagmites (what's a cave without those :happy:) - already have some of those but could use more (have any?) Some stuff I'm keeping in mind (as, maybe)Dig out levels, to go even deeper down.Add more pre-build parts (to turn on/off)Create more parts for the workshop (wider windows, the wide door + passage, grated catwalk and some more pieces missing from the game) Edit:For an impression how its going to look (this is from my previous, broken, cell (without materialswaps, so it looks a little different) Note: At moment of posting the images don't work/show. That way if some bad happens, its not a total restart.I did create a few backups, but they all contained the same problem: Changes to other cells (all i did was look & copy), besides, I changed my 'approach' a bit while working on it, from using material swaps -> edit the materials inside nifs and add them to the CK within my own folder (much better, imho). However, this meant I had to replace each piece of rock, cave or cliff already there for consistency. Might as well start over ;) But, yeah, this time I'm creating a "template" containing my models & customization's, before starting on a new cell, and create backups more often ;) btw: the images still don't show, but they should. (right click the names, 'copy image location', paste the URL at the address bar, et voila.) So, I'm clueless as to why they don't show up... I'll have to find another way i guess. It's main 'feature' being that it doesn't have those pesky utility wall pieces included, like the V111 version (which served as the base, although much comes from the 114 version. Note: If you look closely you might notice the cable is off (the only mesh i didn't change with blender). I've already corrected that. (I moved everything a bit to fit with a 128/256 grid, including the collision(s)) With that, I pretty much finished my models for the moment (I have a lot more, mostly retextured cliffs, rocks & cave pieces). So i can get back to building my vault and cave ones more ;)Although I'm still lokking for some more stalagmites amongst other things, but thats all 'dressing' I can add later on. RoNin1971 Posted March 26, 2021 Author Share Posted March 26, 2021 Ok, slight change of plan. As soon as i restarted on my vault & cave building, I was reminded of some more pieces I'm missing. So I set out to create even more building pieces. (I'm currently around 200 items, around 130 'cave' pieces and some 70 vault pieces (CK Resources Only). As I was working on more models and realy wanted some better fitting railings and half heigh walls, for creating 'pits', I decided to do the workshop versions first as well,(Which I might release as a separate mod, not sure yet) Here's a preview of some of the stuff I just finished:The Doorway is for my wide door, obviously.The railings overlap any wall-top below,The Half-wall, will allow for building 'pits'. (Upper half will follow, as well as raised ceilings)The floor now has 4 variation in Tiles (standard), util, Hall & Concrete. A regular set and a second set Including a gutter. (not sure if i will add all walls with different floors though) Still thinking about creating half & quarter parts for the workshop. I would LOVE those, but it's a lot of work. I'm pretty sure any vault-builder out there will love these :happy:The floors will connects seamless, So there will be no more ugly grey seams running along your floors.
