Sigismundo
Lately there has been serious trolling on the Steam Community Forum for Skyrim. A certain individual has been harassing people trying to get help with mods. He insinuates they are not supposed to use mods at all and that using SKSE, Nexus Mod Manager or any other launcher in particular makes their copy of Skyrim Illegal and break the EULA and or TOS with steam. He speaks as if he is in a position of authority which he is not, and is very threatening to people on that forum. We know he is full of it, however we can not be sure that those monitoring the Steam Community message board will. As he basically is making users of SKSE and or Nexus Mod Manager to sound like pirates. You can figure out his name pretty easily by reading STEAM Skyrim community forum, we need help in reporting him before he hurts the mod community. It may seem just obvious trolling, but you never know who will look at reports, and how they will interpret something they do not understand. Any help bringing his behavior to the attention of Steam STAFF is appreciated.
DrakeTheDragon
Oh, they do know. Him and his gazillion of sock puppet accounts are banned on a regular basis at the forums for a multitude of reoccuring reasons. The trouble is though, he's just got far too many to immediately switch to and go on trolling. This and 'bans' over there seem to not be permanent. He's always back after a short while with all of his banned accounts. I'm not a Steam user myself (thank god!!), so I can't do much in regards of reporting over there, but then again, from what one witnesses so far reports aren't exactly dealt with in a timely fashion anyways and apparently not much of any use. The best thing one can do is simply 'avoid' him by all costs. Do not get in contact with this individual, or you'll be paying for it, and dearly. Don't bother talking to him, as he'll 1) not even read your post and 2) twist your words aroudn when attacking you in response. Oh, and keep in mind, replying to him gives him all rights in the world to attack you in response, because as he puts it 'you started it'. Lately I did the huge mistake and tried to rectify one of his claims, that mod authors don't have any rights over their mods, because they're 'owned' by Bethesda and not them, in a comment on YouTube, by basically agreeing to all his points against better knowledge, not even debating any of them, but adding that for this very reason it's Bethesda who'll be going after mod thieves and take down all mods uploaded without permission, as soon as asked by the original author to do so. BIG mistake! Because in an attempt to 'prove' me how wrong I am (however I can possibly be wrong in only telling what happened in the past every time a mod was stolen so far, not making any claims myself or even debating anything, just as if reality itself was somehow 'wrong') this individual threatened to go and steal a couple of mods from reknown authors next and upload them somewhere else (interestingly without telling 'which' or 'where' exactly), and then I could and tell those authors and watch how they couldn't do anything at all against it and 'learn my lesson' this way. And while we all know what will happen in the end, GStaff will jump in when informed about it and take down all illegal uploads reported to him no matter which host they were uploaded to, just like he always did and still does, still there will be damage caused to those mod authors having to deal with the theft issues all of a sudden... and all of this only because I couldn't keep my mouth shut instead of senselessly attempting to teach idiot in vain, knowing full well of the inevitable outcome. So, lesson learned, hopefully, I will not let my bad mood get the better of me like this again and cause trouble similar to this in the future by replying to individuals you shouldn't even pay attention to. Due to this incident I'm now on a 4/5 countdown of similar incidents to go before I close my accounts in all forums for at least not to be able to post again and cause similar trouble until my mood's finally become better again. I can only strongly advise not to pay attention to this guy. He's not open for reason, lashes back far out of proportion for mere disagreement with him, and no moderation measures outside of the Nexus have ever been of any use against his gazillion of alternate and throw-away accounts. The only way to coexist with this guy without taking severe damage or causing it to others, is to pretend he doesn't exist.
Sigismundo
I disagree on not doing anything, Squeeky wheel gets the grease....if he is reported enough and by enough individuals perhaps they will at some point start to IP Ban, token ban, account ban, and or credit card ban...(doubt that) but hey.....if he is universally reported it will get more attention then if he is not. I agree best policy is to NOT speak to him. The problem is people who honestly need help..and do not know better get scared off when he tries to frighten them saying they are doing something illegal. Having worked in support before...in general things may get overlooked but if something is reported enough and often enough and this important part...by DIFFERENT people...and the reports once investigated are found to be legitimate.....actions CAN be taken. but it's a pain in the butt and easier to just ignore. the only way anything will be truly done is if many different people report him.Another reason I would suggest to report him is that it needs to be made crystal clear to STEAM that his accusations of people having broken some sort of agreement are categorically false.. It does not take long to report a troll.... and if enough unique people do....something is more likely to be done.
DrakeTheDragon
Well, I for one, if I was registered at the Steam forums, would make extensive use of the "block all communication" feature right 'on sight' with this guy and every new account that pops up.The good thing is, he's unable to hide behind his different usernames. If it talks like him and acts like him, it 'is' him, no matter the label. That guy's "unique", impossible to mistake. The very first post he does with another new account, you immediately know it's him, just like yesterday with another fresh abomination. Guy's like a broken LP, always repeating himself to the letter each time. I agree, getting occurances like this one handled by staff properly would be the ideal solution, sadly we don't live in an ideal world. And knowing the guy by now, I just 'know' Valve's moderation won't work. But I don't intend to get involved further into this. I switched to 'ignore' mode by now, ...reading him, laughing my a** off or face-palming till my head aches, then moving on.Those who pay attention to his postings 'deserve' to pay the price. It isn't like you wouldn't know right after the first post already. Edited May 1, 2013 by DrakeTheDragon
