AizenSkyrim
Yo.....So I have this problem where Skyrim doesn't detect my dedicated video card "Radeon HD 6470M with up-to-date drivers" even when I select TESV, SKSE and Skyrim Launcher in Catalyst Control Center and instead detects my Intel HD Graphics 3000 with updated drivers and crap. Also, could someone please tell me whether its my Video Card or Processor thats making Skyrim lag. Is the VC that Skyrim detects, the Intel, the reason why I have lag and have to play on low? Or is CPU, Intel Core i5 2430 @ 2.40GHz Quad Core, the reason (I also have 4gb RAM and Win64bit). And again, If I somehow magically make my dedicated VC work, will I be able to play Skyrim on higher graphics with no lag? Again, (sorry for all the questions, but really I'm desperate... ) If I upgrade my VC to a better VC, maybe NVIDIA , will it STILL lag because of my CPU? Thanks. PS, I've tried going to the BIOS to disable the Intel, but I can't find any setting on how to disable the Intel VC. JimboUK
Is there an option to switch in the display properties? it might also be worth switching off and power saving stuff as well. This is for HP but might point you in the right direction. The problem you're going to have is that Radeon is no good either, it's an entry level GPU that will struggle with Skyrim, Notebookcheck suggests 18 frames per second on low, in fact it lists it lower than the integrated chipset you're using at the moment. AizenSkyrim
......So, the only option is to upgrade to Nvidia then? Any recommended Nvidia cards? Also, let's say I did shift to a good Nvidia card, will I be able to play Skyrim maybe on high with no lag? Will it be a heavy burden on my Processor? JimboUK
The processor is fine as is the RAM, a graphics card upgrade will make a massive difference, as for which one that depends on your budget, you may also need to replace the power supply. If that machine is a laptop then chances are you won't be able to upgrade.
AizenSkyrim
Unfortunately, it IS a laptop, HP Pavilion g7. You say chances are I can't upgrade...by that you mean I cant upgrade my graphics card?
JimboUK
You won't be able to upgrade the card in that, very few allow for upgrades, you might be able to switch out the motherboard but that would be like performing open heart surgery and the cost would make it pointless anyway. JimboUK
NOOOO!!!! Wait, is this for both dedicated and integrated? Or... Yes both, you're stuck with what you have, sorry. :( Do try switching to the other card though, Skyrim is quite CPU heavy and if they benechmarked that GPU with a lesser CPU you might get a better outcome.
