Skyrim Special Edition now crashing after 3 week break?

So I took a break from SSE for a bit, now I think my saves have been corrupted. Runs beautifully whilst running through the world and then when I go through a load screen, instant CTD. the game beforehand ran great and would have maybe 1 crash in 5 hours of gameplay. I've put a fair amount of hours into my character and I've always cleaned my saves and limited downloading new mods mid playthrough. I've made no changes to my operating system or documents. Resaver tool for SSE gives me an error when I try and load a save. Could it be a script problem? Saves slowly in the background became corrupt? Just need a way of finding out what the issue is.

Yeah I know my load order is a lil f*#@ed up, but it hasn't been an issue for the 40 hours I've put into my character.

Dude, you never heared of Spolier Tags?

 

And according to many mod experts, there is no such thing as a cleaned save, and you cannot "clean" a save.

 

But if your game has just sat on your hard drive for a few weeks, I have no idea why it should crash after a load screen, but you have my deepest sympathies.

 

It's probably too many mods and too many conflicting mods, coupled with any you may have removed which will remain around stinking the place up regardless of saved game cleaners.

 

You could try resorting the load order.

 

Also, if it crashes after a load screen, I am not sure what you mean by load screen. That is usually the first time you load a save. But if you mean when loading a new cell while running through the wilderness, or after fast travelling, I would save often while playing and especially before fast travelling.

 

Also, you could try going back through tyour saves to see if you have a stable one. You should be saving every 10 minutes or so anyway.

Yeah I mean as in loading into a new cell, fast travel, going into a house. Cheers for the info though, I'll play around with my load order. And even first couple of saves I've made crash on me.

How many mods do you actually have?

 

I recall at one time I used to get crashes at precisely the same places.

 

In one place near Dragonbridge it was due to a script scanning a large area for undead, and it had a bad command in it.

 

The others were due to me having too many mods that added things like More Immersive NPCs, More Encounters and so on. One place across the river from Whiterun, there was a stone circle with Necromancrs, a nearby Stormcloak camp and a sabre cat spawn point. Having too many mods that add new spawn point in the same place was causing a crash every time I approached, as soon as I saw the cat.

 

Another was when I appoached Solitude from a certain direction. I never did find out what caused that, but all these crashes stopped when I removed the Undead beta mod, Civil War and some extra NPC mods. Before that, I would come across armies of about 20 Imperials or Stormcloaks marching about. Lots of loot, but a bit of a pain.

 

They always say that when you add new mods, and particularly when you remove mods, you should start a new game. I know this is a big PITA when you have a 50 hour game you want to continue, but I'd try sorting the load order, removing any mods that might conflict or add spawn points, try the save cleaners and try and continue. If it is simply unplayable, a new game might be the only solution.

 

You seem to have a lot of mods, so some judicious pruning might be in order.
