Georgiegril
It's saying that because the game is not recognizing your ATI Card, and is using the Intel intergrated graphics instead. That may be the cause of your problems. What might work: Right click on the skyrim.exe icon, click on Run with Graphics Processor, make sure you have your ATI drivers selected. Raggamuffin
No it can't be the issue because my desktop which runs a 680GTX has the same issue whereby none of the .ini changes for shadows work and yet every other change on the ini does make changes in game Ed
prod80
change:[Display]iBlurDeferredShadowMask=2fShadowDistance=8000.0000to[Display]iBlurDeferredShadowMask=5fShadowDistance=4500.0000in your SkyrimPrefs.iniThis will make near shadows much more detailed
Raggamuffin
It seems to have helped slightly but for shadows with 4096 resolution they're still very blocky. Also shadows on my own character remain really really bad quality (her arm) the shadows move constantly and the edges are ghastly http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/576738217920109592/4EBB61A9C57D982CE9010780076BE176FC3D9508/ Ed Edited May 23, 2013 by Raggamuffin
prod80
Shadows move constantly is normal, this has to do with the update time of the sun, your character movement and so on... You can tweak that... I have sun/shadow update time on 00.00 in my ini's and ran the console command: set timescale to 1 (this sets the in game time to realtime) Shadows are just butt ugly in Skyrim (they are done by your CPU). Shadows on your character (also on mine) are not the greatest and you can see a lot of blocky buggy stuff going on. It's horrible... You can correct it with extreme settings but then your character looks good and the whole world around him/her looks like crap... believe me I have tried for ages. The settings I posted earlier seems to work optimal in most situations without creating odd scenery. What you can try is perhaps get better skin textures for your character, to make it look less crappy... these are of truely remarkable quality: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35267 (female) and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/2488 (male) -- contains nudity, but models dont have to be nude. just that you are aware. Other than that there are a billion posts about shadows that are looking bad, and no solution. If you already set shadow quality to 4096, optimized the shadow distances, and the likes, then that's about it. You can decrease fShadowDistance more, but like I said - that will destroy distant shadows. What I did to get better results is using an ENB which make stuff a whole lot better looking... some examples (not too many images with close up shadows it it, it seems)http://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/images/6440158-1368569272.jpghttp://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/images/6440158-1368998508.jpghttp://static.skyrim.nexusmods.com/images/6440158-1368569889.jpg If you need help in setting something like that up, let me know
Raggamuffin
Thanks for the in depth responses. I guess i'll have to make do. Unless there's a way to turn off self shadows. I think Oblivion had this option? I have a mode for skin textures. Probably doesn't show up well with the helmet on her head. I have the mod for realistic lighting which has helped somewhat and i've addressed the sun update issue which has also helped. I've tried various lighting mods, the cinematic lighting mod was very appealing but even on my 680 GTX and 3rd gen i7 it absolutely crippled framerate. I imagine it needs proper customization as I simply installed the mod and started up the game. There was one lighting mod and I can't remember the name all I have is an image I saved from it. This image is on the main images displayed with this mod on this site. From what I recall the download link on here simply advises you to go to a website to get the mod and then it'll need customizing to your preferrances. The pic is here, not sure if you know of it? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/Homicidal_Monkey/381511_462438643835165_1034604648_n.jpg Failing that if you could recommend a preferred lighting mod and customization i'd happily give it a go to see how it does. Thanks again Ed Edited May 23, 2013 by Raggamuffin
prod80
I have an easy one for you.... since you already use Realistic Lighting Overhaul.... Ill sent you on PM to try out The picture you posted does remind me of RCRN ( http://www.rcrncommunity.com/ ) not sure tho... have tried it but didnt really like it... lacked a bit of dept and graphics were not to my taste and couldnt change what I wanted to change, but I guess that's what you get with an "all-in-one" solution like that.
