ok, so i finished the game twice so far, once with small guns, once with energy weapons. i was wondering how to play as a stealthy character that does melee/unarmed and snipes. these dont seem apparent in the game because for me, sneaking is pointless. any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sneaking is not pointless, because if you get a shot/melee attack off without being detected, you get a very powerful automatic critical hit.

 

It is very difficult to get close enough to melee attack a lot of characters, so a "ninja" type character is hard to play, I have found.

I tried several times to play a stealth/melee character and it is... disappointing, yeah that's the word. Even if you are super ninja and use wg 1 or 2 armor and spend 3 minutes lining up each kill it is pointless. You get a single stealth crit and maybe a single kill on a middling tough enemy - but EVERY single one of his buddies knows where you are the second you attack and they all zip into place for a smackdown. Enemies like Talon mercs are especially bad, you get one hit and then his 3 buddies with lasers and missles launchers start running around tearing you to shreds while you stand there mashing tab to pop some stims.

 

You'll get more value out of the game getting a gameplay effect mod or two - imo try slower leveling or book perks, and a fast VATS mod. They change the game enough to make it fun again. Fast VATS especially makes small gun combat a lot funner than vanilla.

I finished the game twice too,one good character,one evil..

 

My first was a man,the second a pretty hot girl..

 

Now i'm just letting it all fly,with loads of mods and cheats just to see if it can still entertain me...it kinda fun to be level 6 with all skills on 100!I use some perks too like the explore perk and bloody mess perk.

 

And i must say i like it!No quests but just exploring and killing/looting with my Bittercup companion.

 

Also in this way you can experiment with everything and make a summary on all the things your next character will have without cheats....i guess small guns,repair and melee is the way to go for me.

 

Small guns at 100 and having a undamaged Blackhawk is sooooo sweet ;D

If it's a proper stealth you want, get Operation Anchorage. Gives you stealth suit, which makes you invisible when crouching... You can still be detected, but it's easy to get up close and kill silently. Having fun with the new sword and at the moment moment. Poor bastards never see it coming. :P
