Looking for advice: Invisible Arms!

Hi!

 

I'm in the middle of creating a mod that introduces a number of npc's that you can summon. One of the NPC's I wanted to make was an armless Black Knight (Monty Python references!!)

 

I really have no idea how difficult this would be to do though. I imagine it would involve finding the model for a human or something and just removing the arms. I don't have any experience with modelling before, is this at all realisticly possible?

Yes this would be pretty easy to make in max or blender. If you want you can post the armor nif here and I can do it or if the file is too large to post then shoot me a message. Or if it's a standard vanilla armor that you want to "de-arm" just let me know which one.

I'm surprised to hear it's an armour related thing. I assumed if you altered the armour it would just show the character model underneath. Though I guess if the armours still there and it just doesn't have any texture.....thinking about it kinda makes my head spin XD


I'm just having the knight wear standard Ebony armour, so if you could "de-arm" the "ArmorEbonyGauntlets", that would be great ^^

Armor and body is contained together in the same nif file. So you have to make a new custom armor for your NPC, do not replace the original ebony armor.

I removed the arms from the 1.nif only, so that means you have to set your NPC's weight to 100% or else it will look all whacky. To remove the gloves you just attach an alpha property to the glove mesh node and in photoshop or gimp make the alpha channel black. Also if you include a copy of the 0.nif you can make his arms re-appear by setting the NPC's weight to 0%. You could also script it where he originally has arms then by script set his weight to 100% and his arms disappear.
