Low fps on High end machine (MODDING NIGHTMARE PLS HELP!)

Recommended Posts

First and foremost let me post dxdiag info on the rig i am using. I pretty much followed Gophers FNV modding tutorial verbatim, I also you the New vegas enhanced content mod page to add to that; last I dld some stuff that I would like on top of that (nothing to justify getting under 20 frames on my rig). I tried for days to get FNV stable and I managed to, it doesn't crash anymore. The issue now is that i can barely get above 30 frames anywhere and I should be getting close to 60 at all times. Outside and in combat i hit low double digits at times. I am not even using an ENB. I just dont understand it. I could not find out a better way to post my load order so I am just going to copy my boss long...I realize this may be annoying to sort though and I would be very open to posting a neater load order if someone could tell me how to.

Nothing on that list should be giving me this enormous of a performance hit. I crush games like BF3 and Crysis 3, Planetside 2 etc, this should be an after thought. I am clearly doing something very wrong with the modding and if someone could help me out that would be great. So far I have tried.

-compressing textures

-deleting and restoring all the inis in case I ruined something

-deleting and reinstalling fook via mod manager

-deleting realisting interior lighting overhaul via mod manager (then realizing my game crashed on startup for some reason until I reinstalled?)

-disabling v sync and triple buffering

-lowering quality

-disabling enhanced shaders

-I am using the 4gb launcher, with nvse and the windowed full screen mod

-I am using stutter fix (removed 30 fps cap)

-used boss to sort load order

-used fnvedit to creat merged patch

-disabled and renabled some animation mods I dld

I am completely dumbfounded, allot of you are so knowledgeable. Please help me, I spent so much time getting this thing stable and modded the way I want and now I cant play it =/

Im having the same problem, does your game get 60 when completely Vanilla? Try trial and error, and alternate PN and FOOK to see if using both of them. Add light things to watch your FPS, if Vanilla is giving you 60fps or more, add small stuff like the Flashlight mod, house mods, the radios, DarnUI. Once that is stable then try your overhauls like NVR, FOOK, PN, AWOP.

Good luck.

At first glance I'd say Nevada Skies and Project Reality are the issue, they do the same thing. Most other mods that deal close to what Nskies and Project Reality do have a version for one or the other, not both at the same time.

try removing your "fallout stutter remover"

(its in /data/NVSE/plugins)

thats what did it for me.

this thing is just stupid and doesnt work.

i have a HEAVILY modded game (MMUE/MMUE+, PN, WMXUE, and another 80+ mods including texture packs / visual enhancements) but I also have a good machine that runs an even more heavily modded Skyrim game (100+ mods +enhancements +enb) quite fine - so when I was getting 10-20fps in FNV on a fresh install during combat, and 20-30fps just running around or idling, I knew something was wrong.

Turns out its that stupid stutter remover.

I dont have stutter anyway....

Removed it and BAM 140FPS at loading screen, 80FPS ingame (was 20FPS @ Primm when I exited game --- then I removed it --- then had 80FPS loading from exact same position).

You can use FPS limiter via ENB instead, which I use in Skyrim also...

Go figure....

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^That is Miss information ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ In the top of Stutter remover's INI you can turn on/off the FPS managed part. OR just configure it properly!

I could not play any of the Bethesda games without Stutter remover (it does what it says) it also has ...

_comment = bAllowSlowMotion (and MinimumFPS) are not supported on F:NV yet

This moder (Sky_Ranger?) has been Developing this since back in the Oblivion days. 2006 ish?....I have been using it since, with Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, and now FalloutNV.
Further more you should not go past the refresh rate of your Monitor....messes with the physics of the game, causes screen tearing.....
Stutter remover is great and does what it says.....the User has to know what they are doing!
I played 5 hours straight yesterday , and never once saw it drop below 30 , I am moded to the MAX.
Giving the proper information so when people search they see ....yes Stutter remover defaults to 30 FPS , BUT its up to you to adjust it to what your RIG can Handle.
I suspect a troll. we will see if you can comment back about this or are just spouting off.
Sigh......
EDIT: Sorry OP had to edit to include what i Originally wanted to say....My bad

-disabling enhanced shaders <<<<<Which ENB binarys are you using, I have to stick to 173 so i can keep SLI 64x AA/ 16x AF with SLI 8x SuperSampling Enhanced shaders was built to use 161...and the last ENB to support Driver forced AA/AF is 173.
-I am using the 4gb launcher, with nvse and the windowed full screen mod <<<just checking you got the 4gb from Sliverlock?
-I am using stutter fix (removed 30 fps cap)<<<<Nice, see rest of post above...lol. Do keep it running.!
-used boss to sort load order <<<<<thanks for posting a readable LO
-used fnvedit to creat merged patch<<< Did you also use NVEdit to clean those Masters BOSS mentions ? did i miss it in the LO
A nice list like that would more then likely need either a Merged Patch OR a Bash_patch. <<thats a Wrye FlashNV patch. Merged patch is not in your List.....
I use Wrye Flash NV and it is currently making 7060 Edits to my load order. (2000 because its sorting Inventory) Wouldn't play without!!
You for got your DXdiag.....

The purpose of stutter remover is to smooth out game play on low to mod range computers - One of the ways it does this is to cap the fps.

Consoles - both xbox and PS3 cap the fps at 30 - movies and TV are both shown at LESS than 30 fps - but for some reason, some people seem to think that they MUST!!! get 60+ fps for the game to be any good. Stutter is most often caused by the video changing from one fps to another - the bigger the change the more it will be noticed. IF you can get a constant fps at any speed over 30, you are already doing better than the game was designed for, (It was designed to run smooth on the consoles) and better than both standard TV (24 in US and 25 in some other places) and movie (24 fps) (fps and resolution are completely different things) Both movies and TV use tricks like background and motion blur to make it look better. The next time you watch a fast moving live sporting event on TV look at the background instead of the gameplay to see some of the effect.

So, capping the fps at 30 may work for some computers, especially the lower end ones. But if your system cannot consistently run at 30 - you will still see stutter, but maybe not as much. The idea is to set the cap to LESS than the maximum you can achieve to give the video a chance to keep up.

If you do have a high end computer, it can still help, you just need to cap it at a higher fps. While allowing the fps to float will still show the micro hesitations as the fps changes. Capping on a high end computer is to allow some overhead on your video card for those sudden changes in fps - if you are not capped, and you are seeing 120 fps and suddenly it drops to 60, you WILL see a small hesitation. But if you capped that at 55fps - it would look just as good, and there would be no hesitation because the video card doesn't have to make any big changes.

The purpose is not to get the highest fps possible, but the smoothest gameplay at the best fps that allows that smoothness. If you can get that at 60+ fine. If not put a cap on it and see if if it actually does make a difference. My Skyrim is capped at 42fps. I hope to be able to raise that with the new system I am currently building. But I will still have a cap to prevent the fps from floating too high to recover quick enough to prevent the micro pauses.

More info on fps here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate

Note - the Hobbit was actually shot at a double FPS - 48 instead of the normal 24fps - but most theaters cannot show it at 48 because their projector will only show 24fps. So if you saw it, it was most likely at the standard 24 fps.

The problem is Project Reality.

There is a bug that Subtle DOF is applied even when it is unchecked in the MCM menu. The solution is check it and then uncheck it and you will gain 20+ fps.

Another solution would be to drop Project Reality entirely as you would gain another few fps even after applying the above fix.

Thank you for suggesting Project Reality this is the problem i was having, however i really really love the darkness it added to the game where at night you couldn't see more then 20 feet in front of you. Is there any suggestions how i can get that feel back without hitting my FPS the same way.
