Hey guys as you can see Im a newb and Im just getting into moding games.

There is just one little problem I dont know how to do it.

Im a big fallout 3 player and I recently looked over the mods available from this site and downloaded/extracted some that sounded really fun.

I thought it would be straight forward download/extract,then start it up and play.

Sadly I was mistaken.

I would really apreciate it if someone gave me a detailed explanation of how to get a mod and use it in game.

I would really appreciate it.

P.S I looked all over the forums looking for something somewhere that I would be able to find out on my own how to do so but I wasnt able to find anything.

So what issue(s) are you having? please be specific

And welcome to the Nexus.

Well in the first place I didnt know how to get the mods for fallout, so I looked over the ones that were available and found out to get the mod I needed to extract it from the file of the selected mod, I extracted the file onto my computer and was geussing that the mod would automatically work and would be in the game once I had started, but I was wrong.

So I came to the conclusion that I didnt know how to do it at all, and Im asking if someone would tell me how to just get a mod and use it in fallout 3.

and well thats the problem I dont know what I am doing.

and thx its good to be here

well most mods should come with a readme (and shame on those too lazy to make one x_x) so thats a good place to start

and I don't really know the extent of your 'newbishness' so I'll start with saying that just extracting the files from the compressed file is not enough, those files need to be put in specific places (which are usually outlined in the readme) in whatever folder you installed the game to

also, after you have all the files in the correct locations, you need to check the check box for your mod in the data files list which is accessed from the initial desktop startup thingy

yea ive been there, and it doesnt give me specifics like how to put the extracted file into the fallout 3 folder

You can either extract it directly to the Fallout 3/Data directory or extract it somewhere else (Desktop?) and then copy and paste it to the Fallout 3/Data directory. Any readme with the mod should explain what to do.

Basically the esp file needs to be in the Data directory.

You will also need to enable the mod by placing a tick next to it in the Fallout 3 Launcher + Data Files or by using FOMM.

You will also need to change a line in your FALLOUT.ini (found in MyDocuments/MyGames/Fallout3)

bInvalidateOldFiles=0 needs to be changed to bInvalidateOldFiles=1

It's pretty simple

1. Download the .rar itself.

2. Open your Fallout 3 Data folder

3. Extract the ESM and any other files into Data (Unless told to do anything else)

4. Start Fallout 3 startup

5. Press Data Files and check off the mod's you want to run

6. Play

How to allow any non .esm files. (IE. Models)

1. Go to My Documents\My Games\Fallout3

2. Open FALLOUT.config

3. Search for bInvalidateOlderFiles

4. If it's 0 change it to 1

Also download this file http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=944

Some of your points are wrong.

bInvalidateOlderFiles needs to be changed for ESM and esp files.

It is not FALLOUT.config but FALLOUT.ini
