Want a New TV!

Recommended Posts

The TV will be a gaming TV. itll be in my room, which is in the basement, and has no windows, which means i have no glare in my room (when the lights are off ofc) ive been looking at TVs between 50"-60". i really cant go any bigger then that 1) because i dont want/need to and 2) because it wont fit. my price limit is a non negotiable $1200. absolute limit. the little bit of research ive done has led me to Panasonic Plasma TVs. ive read a few threads from other forums that say for gaming go Plasma if you are in a room with no windows (which is why i pointed that fact out)..i was also talking to a friend the other day who is very Tech Savvy and also a slight gamer who coincidentally had a 55" Panasonic Plasma and loved it and had had it for about 6 months or so. I also talked to another friend today who isnt Tech Savvy at all but is probably more of a gamer who said stay away from Plasma for gaming. that he had a friend (whom i know) that had a Plasma and it went after 6 months of gaming.

ive heard that Plasma are prone to image burn, but ive also heard people counter this saying theyve left TVs on all night with no image burn. I dont usually have very long sessions playing a single game, but my fear would be elements of a HUD which are almost always stationary burning into the screen. is this still an issue even with newer Plasmas?

are there better options for gaming then Plasma? its hard for me to tell in stores. to me LEDs look sharper then Plasmas or LCDs, but this is also in a store with fake florescent light and with the TVs probably not being calibrated to the best they could be.

anyways im just looking for you guy's opinions. what do you use? what do you recommend? I found a Panasonic 60" Plasma on Clearance in a local Wal Mart for $650. is this something I should jump on? To reiterate:

50" - 60" (MAX)

$1200 (MAX, cheaper is better)

Gaming TV (Plasma, LED, or LCD)

doesnt need to be 3D (dont care in the least for 3D)

doesnt need to be a Smart TV either.

Thanks All!!! :D

Any smart tv will suit your needs quite well, here is a tip for quality assurance, touch the screen if it glows dark its not as good it claims to be.

if a smart TV runs me more, then i dont want a smart TV. id have no way to make use of it. nor would i need to. i dont need to go on the internet on my TV as i have a PC right here. i dont have netflix. i only really watch movies on DVD. i dont hardly stream anything and i dont have a smart phone (yet) to make use of a smart TV in any other way.

if it was a choice between two same TVs but one being smart and one not, i would get the non smart TV for cheaper unless they were the same price.

Its not the fact its internet ready, its more likely to support everything better, especially your pc. Its designed to be more like a pc monitor then anything else.

This is actually for my PS3. The most it'll do with my PC is be connected via HDMI or something to watch movies. Which my current tv can do now (the one I'm hoping to replace)

The real reason I want a new tv is because when me and my gf play split screen borderlands 2 it's too small. My screen is 36" I think. Idr if its LCD or LED thought its around 5 years old now

Thanks for your input Thor keep it coming :P

I suggest go to local stores, search around, you never know what you may find, smart tv's though is a good idea,

120hz and above is ideal to, i have a first gen 42inch Sharp Aquos and i would buy another thats for sure, the refresh rate increases response times and not to mention better latency for gaming in general.

It's like you never even read the OP. like you only read the title. Go back and read the OP then lmk if you have any input. Because so far you've only said stuff that's been addressed in the OP.

I did and thats the info i gave, i don't have specific brand in mind for you. There are so many deals out there that you can find simply in stores.

Sharp

Sony

Toshiba

Samsung

LG

and so on is recommended.

also take my last advice about touching the screen, its a quality control trick

I can't touch the tv I'm looking At. It's not on. It's on a center isle table on clearance lol.

My real question in all this was is plasma good for gaming or is there better? Should I be worried about plasma? Pros and Cons etc.

:)

LCD is what you want or even 'LED" especially  led's are better on your eyes, less strain do to the back light.
