Dahveed
When I tell Harkon that I wish to become a vampire, he tells me to be still. Then when the game is supposed to show his bite animation, he instead disappears, the screen goes blank, and I reappear where I started - standing beside Serana in the main guild hall of the keep. There is no way out (all the doors are locked) and the quest does not advance - I still have "Speak to Harkon" as my current quest objective. I have scoured forums, tinkered with mods (enable, disable), tried different saves, uninstalled/reinstalled DG, etc etc etc and nothing works! Anyone have this problem and/or a fix? PLEASE!!!! I am SO frustrated right now, usually I can find a fix for this crap but this is driving me mad!
ZeroKing
Some of these game-breaking bugs cannot be fixed even without the use of console commands. You'll likely need to install the Unofficial Skyrim Patches and its constituents for Dawnguard. For this however, you'll also need to go to a prior save file as well so that you can go through the quest again with the patches installed. As well, ensure all of the mods are in proper load order, Skyrim and all of your mods are fully updated.
Dahveed
However the danger lies in the fact that even if I uninstall reinstall load an older save etc, there is no way of knowing if the bug will persist. I don't want to play for another two hours to get back to the same spot, just to have the same bug stop me again... Has nobody else had this problem? ZeroKing
Troubleshoot, then. Your mistake is simple: you're installing and uninstalling mods, which encrypt themselves into the game. Even if you uninstall a mod, some of its scripts or effects are permanent. Such is the nature of Skyrim's game engine. Since you are unwilling to troubleshoot, why do you ask questions? The only way to find out if this bug will persist is to try bug-fixing mods and check any clean saves for this bug again. As well, use TES5Edit. A lot of times, there are mods with dirty edits, and even the game .esm files have bad edits. Head off on to this page: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/25859. Using this handy little tool will fix a lot of dirty edits that certain mods or .esm files (such as Update.esm Dawnguard.esm, Dragonborn.esm) may have. Follow the guide on that page, will help a lot. Saying that you are not willing to go back two hours to fix this bug will not solve your problems. Your game save files are already encrypted with this bug. This bug is not common anymore, especially since the patches fixed this issue a LONG time ago. Edited May 16, 2013 by ZeroKing

I have had this problem for 2 days now and I've tried everything, and you'll notice in my original post that I've already tried different things, to no avail. I don't want to sound like a jerk but you're making me sound like a lazy entitled asshole or something, which is not the case. I am begging for help and being respectful, and I am trying everything in my power to recuperate my game before having to perhaps reinstall skyrim entirely, since if none of this patching up works, the Dawnguard content might not even work on my current character with all the modding that's been done. Thanks for your time and effort to help.
ZeroKing
I'm just saying as it is. Not be harsh, that's not my intent. But you stated you don't want to try an older save file, which is really the only way to ensure you have a clean gameplay and troubleshoot accordingly. Perhaps I sounded harsh, and I apologize. I'm just saying as required, I don't sugar-coat my words. Try, instead of reinstalling your game, verify your game cache through Steam. Likely your original .esm files are corrupted. As well, I always recommend the Unofficial Skyrim Patches by Arthmoor and his team. They fixed an enormous amount of bugs, and yours might be one of them. Cheers, hope it works out. prod80
ZK is right, get the Unofficial patches (for Skyrim and each of the DLC's you might have) and start from an older save where you have not yet started the whole quest. Dont tell me, I had a lvl 23 char 2 weeks back that couldnt continue in the main questline of Skyrim because some stupid quest bugged out and I had no way to fix it, even with an older save as you're about to try - didnt help!, console commands, and any other 'cheating' way to get the quest started.. no help. I have since started over and on the next attempt to the quest things worked again. This game just sometimes, bugs out. Tho I must say this was the only game-breaking bug I had in about 250 hours of playing. Perhaps as a last resort you can try and fix your issue with console commands, but I'd strongly advise NOT to do that when you have any other options left as it can seriously mess stuff up later on.
