yusukenl Posted May 18, 2013 Share Posted May 18, 2013 (edited) Hi all, recently I installed skyrim from steam and some mods from nexus, and expected to have some fun.But sadly, I have been having serious CTD and screen freezing problem shortly after I start a new game.That's, every time I join in a battle with some npc fighting over mobs, or just approaching them in the open world, I have CTD or freezing. I have been researching on my own through the web for solution, yet I had no luck on solving the problem. So, I hope you guys could give me some advice, help and insight on what happen to my game. I think that may be the problem, although you are also using a lot of mods that increase the memory load, so you could just be exceeding the games memory limitation. You might consider this:(note before making changes to your ini files, be sure to make backups!) Well, the general section of the prefs ini is not looking right-- the ugrids stuff should be only in the .ini file.Also, you are missing some info from the pref.ini section--what would normall be there. It looks like you might have tried to cut-paste some settings, and wrote over the original?I suggest you go to the default pref.ini file (the one in the steamapps/common/skyrim folder, and copy the the general section from your default prefs ini to the one in the documents file.It will look something like this:[General]fBrightLightColorB=1.0000fBrightLightColorG=1.0000fBrightLightColorR=1.0000iStoryManagerLoggingEvent=-1bEnableStoryManagerLogging=0 In the general section of your .ini file, the correct value for 5 ugrids should be:uExterior Cell Buffer=36I would suggest removing the interior cell buffer line entirely.(not sure, are you trying to extend view distance on the 5 ugrids? or were you using a larger ugrids and reverted? Increasing ugrids then trying to return can cause game instability, and may be contributing to your issue.) In addition, you seem to be missing a lot from your prefs ini....is that really your whole thing?I would take a look at your default prefs ini, too...like I said, if you had been copy/pastiong from somewhere, you might have accidentally removed parts. (large sections, if this is really the whole thing) If you wanted to revert to the defaults, all you have to do is delete the ones you are using, and skyrim will rewrite the defaults into your game. You need to select all the text, then click on the spoiler tag. (right now you have a little spoiler area above the prefs ini and the papyrus script, neither with anything in them.)--my fingers are getting tired! I believe the problem is what I suggested before, that you are exceeding the game's memory limit.It may be, alternately, that you are exceeding your computer's ram or vram.The solution would be to lower settings and/or remove mods that add textures, effects, animations and/or scripts until your game runs smoothly.Unfortunately, removing games that add scripts, even when removed exactly as the author instructs, may leave you with orphaned scripts. Depending on how far along you are in the game, it may be easier to revert to vanilla skyrim and then very carefully add one or two mods at a time. (this is a bit easier, at least with alternate start mods, you don't have to endure the cart ride again! If you are wanting to try to save this game, I suggest you track your memory use while in game--both VRAM and RAM, and figure out where you are bottlenecking. If it's VRAM, then start lowering graphics settings, lighting and texture mods. I could make some suggestions on ways to save VRAM but theres no point unless you discover this is really the issue. Disabling the official hi-res texture pack may help.If it's RAM, then you will need to look at your mods that add NPCs, encounter zones, critters, etc. You could also make sure to give your computer as much available memory as possible by disabling all unessential services, apps, processes through GameBooster or manually, if you prefer. I also strongly suggest that you disable both autosaves and quicksaves, as they greatly increase savegame corruption. If it crashes at 3.1, then you are probably running into the game's 32-but limitations. (Which still means you have to remove stuff, but at least you know it is a game engine thing and not your computer. The payrus log is not a crash log--whatever caused your crash was not logged because the papyrus log shuts down as soon as the gamecrashes (and only records scripts) as oppsed to a crash log that would collect data after the crash. I found that my computer still have around 40% of RAM in stand-by when TES5 crash. Yet, the CPU was at 100 % everytime TES5 crash/freeze.How could this be possible? My computer isInter Core i7-2670QM CPU @2.20 GHz 2.20Ghz8 GB of RAMGPU is NVIDIA GeForce GT540M 2GB Also, how do I monitor the VRAM usage ? yusukenl Posted May 19, 2013 Author Share Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) I found a 3rd GPU monitor programand attached pic is the spec of my video card shown in the programThrough the program, I found out that whenever my game crash, the GPU Core Clock, Memory Clock and Shader Clock are at it max.the GPU load tab was at around 70% So, is it the graphic problem ? GPU load, etc.Wrye bash I don't use, and barely know.Gamebooster shuts down background services and processes, so that would help decrease the RAM load on your computer while playing.The problem may be that you need to further decrease the RAM you are using, in the game, by removing some of the mod types as I described.
