triforcex12
I have recently done a complete reinstall of skyrim, as I had a lot of mods, and wanted to start fresh with fewer. I deleted all local data through steam, nothing was left. I then reinstalled skyrim. Afterwards, everything was fine, until I used mods that replace vanilla textures. Now, most mods that replace textures, ex. better dynamic snow, better females by bella, etc. will not show up in game. Models show up fine, just not textures, almost as though vanilla skyrim textures are overriding them, so my character looks ugly, the snow looks low res, and even the high res texture pack is overridden. I would have thought a fresh installation would not have such issues. I have Verified Game Cache, and tried various things to fix it, turned off all possibly conflicting mods, although I now only have three mods and none of them should conflict, I am regretting trying to make a fresh start now, but there is no going back, so any help would be appreciated. Georgiegril
I think your problem was that you did not make a fresh start, as you did not delete everything.I recommend you take a look at the STEP Guide's reverting to vanilla skyrim.
triforcex12
Alright, thanks for the response, just checked the guide, and as it turns out, I was even more thorough. I removed all traces of the game from my computer, all folders, complete uninstall, and that apparently still caused issues. I am now becoming quite confused as to how a complete reset to factory defaults could cause problems. Maybe my "factory defaults" are somehow corrupt. triforcex12
Alright, just as a precaution, I followed the STEP guide as well, and after following instructions to the letter, it still has this problem. Now I am starting to become worried.
triforcex12
I am reinstalling for the third time now, and if it doesn't work, I thought of a possible fix to try. Since the vanilla textures are overriding the custom ones, I am going to try removing the vanilla textures themselves by extracting the textures.bsa files nto the data directory, and then moving them somewhere else, that way whatever I replace the textures with will be the only thing skyrim is able to use. If skyrim wants to be picky, I will rid skyrim of its all its options.
triforcex12
I tried my fix, and somehow, even with no bsa to from which to use textures, skyrim is still using them. I don't even know how this is possible. No matter what I do, skyrim overwrites textures, and even some models, with vanilla ones, even thought it has no BSA file to find them in. It is using imaginary files to overwrite the custom ones I am using, this is driving me crazy.
