Full System Restore, Saved Games Remain

As the title says, I performed a reformat on all 3 of my hd's, and one of the first things I re-installed was Skyrim. The thing is, I have my previous save games still available to play which confuses me.

I don't know this is due to downloading the game off steam as opposed to using my cd to install it, but I was under the impression my save games were lost.

Just looking for clarification on my confusion. Thanks ahead of time.

**edited to state I did a reformat, not a restore**

If I recall correctly, system restore only restores your system files while your data and documents are left intact. I might be wrong though.

All my music, pictures, screen shots, documents, ect, have all been erased though.

Well that's interesting. Steam doesn't keep your save files, you just download game files (no saves, no mods, just the game and updates). It's possible to make a full backup of your game using Steam Backup but that wouldn't keep your save games either (at least not automatically). Steam Cloud won't back them up either.

It may be that your system restore failed to do it's job right and the saves got left behind along with who knows what else.

And I am sorry, wrong choice of words. I reformatted all 3 of my hd's. Skyrim was installed on my SSD with my OS.
