Man...it's not working...i've done it many times but nothing works

Be sure to check the ini in the my documents folder too! Not the one in the root directory.

And thanks ghosu! :) :) :)

Also, rather than just adding that to the bottom of your INI, find where

[Launcher] is in the middle somewhere and add that line in at that point.
I have typed it into the line under [Launcher] correctly with the proper capitalizations and mine is still grayed out. I also could not find anything saying

[Launcher]

Are you editing the Skyrim.ini located at \My Documents\My Games\Skyrim\? That's the correct one. There will be a Skyrim.ini found in the root directory of your Skyrim installation as well, it should be left alone.

My daughter simply COULD NOT get the DATA Files in the Launcher, no matter WHAT she did. Oddly enough when we transferred her OS and all files to her new computer, it worked fine. Figure that one out.

When she wanted to add a mod, she had to manually edit the plugins.txt file. This is in (XP) Documents and Settings>Administrator>Local Settings>Application Data>Skyrim. In Win 7 it' under Users>Local Settings somewhere ...

If all else fails, this WILL work - or, use BOSS or another separate MOD manager.

hey friends, tried the fixes here that worked for other people - nothing for me. i added the line in documents->my games->skyrim->skyrimprefs.ini and skyrim.ini but nothing changes. any insight as to what i could be doing wrong?

i'm adding this, under [Launcher]:
bEnableFileSelection=1
???
i've seen video tutorials that demonstrate that this fix works, i jus't cant make it work for me! baffling.

Is it the only [Launcher] section of SkyrimPrefs.ini and is it the only line for "bEnableFileSelection"? If not, that could be your problem.

Just to be clear, your "Data Files" section on the Skyrim Launcher is greyed out correct?

Could you copy and paste your entire SkyrimPrefs.ini into a /spoiler tag?

yes, that's correct. "Data Files" is greyed out in the skyrim launcher. beginning to wonder if my install is broken somehow.

Are you using Mod Organizer? If so, it apparently has it's own set of .ini's and these should be tweaked in place of the ones in \My Documents\.
