got this exact same problem for the 1st time after a lot of playthroughs....
so no hope for this character then?

Here's a spit shot. Did you read the letter? (You mention many playthroughs, the attic room won't trigger unless you read the letter, which after many playthroughs you may have forgotten). Have you tried bringing the letter or loading to an earlier save?

These "fixes" are plausible, but I wouldn't get excited - like I said, just a spit shot.
