Why cap the odds?

So I broke down and actually read the formulas for settlement defense on the wiki. The attack odds work for the most part but the actual survival odds without you on hand are pathetic.

Defense Rating + Population + 1d100 (Capped at 100%) - Wealth Rating [(Food + Water) - 50%] + 1d100 (ALSO capped at 100%)

I strongly suspect that the wealth rating doesn't go into the negatives, either.

Put simply, this formula is stupid. The random numbers are just too big and are regardless of game difficulty, the cap is counterproductive, and it is essentially impossible to build reliable defenses as anything over 100-population doesn't signify.

I'm putting this here and in Mod Requests as a mod to make the concept of defenses mean something is in order until a working formula is part of the Unofficial Mod. It'll be titled Defenses UP, Pls Buff there.

There is no such thing as a defense that doesn't require the presence of someone in charge to function - and as the settlement founder YOU are in charge.

Sure, you leave an NPC in charge in your absence (which can be extremely lengthy) - and guess what - no NPC can adapt to a fluid situation and counter what would otherwise be a winning maneuver for the Super Mutants attacking Red Rocket like you can.

I watch every attack when I'm there (one of the few settlements I actually grab) - and usually if I wasn't there it would likely get overrun.

It's not a surprise - I'm flexibile, turrets and NPC's (including Dogmeat) aren't. I can reposition to multiple locations and deal multiples types of weapons damage and choose the most important targets that simple turrets and NPC's simply can't. I'm Rambo - my minions? They are the 3 Stooges.

Watch a turret fire at a target sometime, you will see just how inaccurate they can be. You'd think they'd have a sector locked down yet you see a Mutie just waltz right through basically unmolested.

It's why I got out of the whole "settlement building" metagame. I can't be everywhere and expect to be anywhere at a moments notice.

Yep.

You can devise the grandest defensive system - and the AI will circumvent it.

In Survival mode, there are times where it is simply impossible to get back.

Take your losses and suck it up.

No settlements for me. Nothing but safe houses for me - which don't get attacked.
