*UPDATE*

Got it to work. Guess the 7-Zip I was using to open the compressed files was broken or garbage. I uninstalled it and used a free trial of WinRar and it worked flawlessly, no hassle. Thanks for the help 2much, I really appreciate the help.

So I've been looking at modding Fallout New Vegas and because I'm so bad with computers and new to modding I go to Gopher on Youtube to know what I'm doing.

What I'm getting is for New Vagas NVSE is really important to have because a lot of mods use it, issue is I can't get NVSE to work. I have to use the current version: http://nvse.silverlock.org/download/nvse_4_2_beta4.7z which is apparently a 7z that needs to be extracted. In Gopher's video he shows that if you have no knoledge of 7z you can just download the zip, unfortinatly it was done a few years ago and the current version dosen't have that as an option. So I followed the instructions on http://nvse.silverlock.org/ under Installation. When I downloaded the files from here: http://nvse.silverlock.org/download/nvse_4_2_beta4.7z this is what I got.

A folder named Lang and these files:

7z.dll

7z.exe

7z.sfx

7zCon.sfx

7zFM.ex

7zG.exe

7-zip.chm

7-zip.dll

descript.ion

History.txt

License.txt

readme.txt

Uninstall.exe

So as the instructions said I copied the .dll and .exe files and put them into the New Vegas folder. I loaded up the game entered in GetNVSEVersion and recieved this message:

SCRIPTS:Script 'SysWindowCompileAndRun',line1:

Script command "GetNVSEVersion" not found

So I then downloaded the 7-Zip File Manager opened the folder with that extracted the files I needed and again put them in the new vagas folder. Loaded up the game put in the command and recieved the same message.

If anyone could help me out with this it would be really appreciated, again I'm a noob at mods and suck with most computer applications on top of that. Or if anyone knows if there is a zip of the current version of NVSE anywhere that would be awesome.

Also I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit if that helps.

7z is a program that lets you open 7z or 7-zip files or RAR files and various other compressed files.I use WinRar, but you already have 7z. Go ahead and double click the 7z.exe. That will install the 7z program on your computer. Now download your file. http://nvse.silverlo...se_4_2_beta4.7z

You'll get a compressed RAR file. Right click it and since you have installed 7-zip you should now have the option to extract it. Extract the file to desktop just like Gopher does

Now you should have a folder on your desktop that can be double clicked and opened.

copy and paste the files into your New Vegas folder just like Golpher did.

Now double click the NVSE.exe . You'll wind up with an NVSE launcher on your desktop if you create a shortcut for it. Use it to launch the game. Hope that helps.

I guess I'm just having a hard time understanding all this. I already have this http://nvse.silverlo...se_4_2_beta4.7z installed I'm not seeing anything showing a RAR file. Just these.

7z.dll

7z.exe

7z.sfx

7zCon.sfx

7zFM.ex

7zG.exe

7-zip.chm

7-zip.dll

descript.ion

History.txt

License.txt

readme.txt

Uninstall.exe

When I double click the 7z.exe it brings up a small black box with white font for half a second.

Is there perhaps a video that shows this in detail? I've searched for hours and haven't found anything helpful.

I don't know what's wrong here. I just downloaded a rar file with your link. I just extracted a folder from the rar file from your posted link by right clicking the rar file and getting the option to "extract here". I am able to extract these types of compressed files because I have 7-zip and or WinRar installed. Here just happens to be my desktop. The extracted folder contains files and text documents that all begin with NVSE. These need to be copied and pasted into your Fallout New Vegas folder. Then double click the executable you just pasted called nvse_loader.exe. This will launch FNV with nvse installed. You'll probably want to make a shortcut of nvse_loader.exe to your desktop.
