Hold Border Gates

I'd like someone to create a mod that added walls and gates separating the hold borders.

the gates and walls should of course have guards and maybe something to make the gates different from each other.

this would just be a very clear way of knowing when you are entering another region of skyrim.

it would also be rather lore friendly because of the civil war and such, correct me if i'm wrong :)

although it sounds like much work i can't be the only one who would appreciate this idea coming to life!

tell me what you think and please update me if this actually gets real! :)

okay i'll correct you. no the civil war would not cause gates to be built to separate the holds. you have to remember the war just started like about a year before the events of the game. if you notice how the maps that the Imperials and the Stormcloaks have have flags marking forts most of which are not held by them, this is because they are actively working to reclaim them for the war effort, a task that never ends up being completed because of game mechanics. also the Stormcloaks wouldnt spend their limited resources on building walls and gates that could never be held. think the Great Wall of China and how well that worked.

dont get me wrong though the idea still sounds neat, but they would have to have been old ruins that are being used again.

on another note, to see some of the forts actually being used by the armies would be nice and even some more ruins/not ruins that are set up as border towers or something would be a welcome addition.

I could see some sort of marker along the main roads to indicate the border between holds - possibly a cairn or signpost. And not on every minor trail that crosses the border as they would be more or less haphazard unless there is some disagreement between jarls over the actual border. The armies in this war seem more intent on capturing and holding towns and strategic forts rather than territory. Most actual battles seem to be sieges, and the fighting that take place on the roads are more like skirmishes.

As for a gate on the border, that would be easy to bypass, and spreading your limited number of soldiers out to guard every possible border crossing would mean the enemy could concentrate on overrunning each small outpost one at a time. A small lookout tower overlooking an important border crossing with just a few men could be done. The purpose would not be to stop an army, but to send a runner to warn the jarl that an army was coming.

I spent several months working with a surveyor. We found old boundary markers for the NC/SC state line over 12 miles (19 km) inside of the currently (more or less) recognized border - so older surveying may not be exact, and may lead to boundary disputes ( as it has between NC & SC and other states) The latest boundary dispute was just last year when about a dozen people were informed they no longer lived in SC, but in NC - and vice versa - due to a surveyors error in the 1700s. I could see the same kind of disputes in Skyrim over territorial boundaries.

old ruins sounds good :) the only thing i'm really looking for is something to actually separate the holds from eachother like the border gates at the edges of skyrim but still not so... boring if you see my point. i mean with real guards and stuff, the guards would be there to stop bandits and other spawns of evil ^^ and if you as a player would be wanted then of course they would take you in depending on which hold you were crossing in/out to :) it would not be very lorebreaking IMO except from the fact that the vanilla lore didn't have walls or gates ^^ but what the heck the lore has been rewritten by modders since the beginning of time so what difference would it really make? :) i just feel it would be really cool to be able to really feel when you croos into another hold :)
