Finding Copper Prize Book #1

[1]12.1[18]

Supermutants ambushed the group, from their right, or at least attempted to. Presensing the attack, the group began firing at the enemy just before they could shoot at the Pridetroopers and TTTAs. The berserker supermutants charged out of the semicollapsed building, showing themselves to be poorly disciplined, armoured and armed. Mainly swing fireaxes, sledgehammers or other large tools, they fell to the withering fire that struck them. As they died, the vanished away, teleporting to the PTPO.

It was the first group, of supermutants, to strike at the group but it was expected that it would be far from the last.

They went into the semiruined building to find there some useful, civil, equipment-supplies, being mostly supplies. There was also a softly glowing History Manual of the MPBR battlerifle that utilised 12.7mm cartridges from its main automatic gun and 30mm grenadeshells, and grenaderockets, from its under barrel semiautomatic launcher and overhead handlong missiles from a monoshot launcher. It vanished away even as Ellen touched it, going into the PTPO.

The softly glowing copperish book was in a small wall safe along with a prize Steelgirl bobblehead, in power armour, holding a large multiple purpose techitool. These vanished away along with a stack of bundles of EID $cards, two silver ingots and a bag of varied value bottle prizecaps.

Other items were teleported away being of interest, such as propaganda posters, books, advertising signs, a cliché wooden NorthAmIndian figure for a cigarette company, a stack of newspapers and a small collection of animal shaped metal coin slot boxes.

Then all went into the transdimensional base, there being limits to how much this could be done.

In the PTPO

[1]13.1[19]

The randomling was activated causing a big 3D4Dprinter to be added to one of the PTPO cubechambers. It came with a whole lot of 3D4Dprinting resources and related equipment-supplies. Very soon it was being used to create a wide range of useful items.

Copper Prize Book #1 opened to reveal, seemingly piecemeal, bits of information. The first was a series of clues to help open Copper Door #1 and so it was opened to reveal an airlock that led into a bigger inside than out cubechamber arrangement. Inside the BITO (bigger inside than out) cubechamber was an odd library-museum-gallery like arrangement with a large amount of information of the Predoomsday world but mostly the USA. The 9x9x9m cubechamber was divided into two levels joined by a rampway and an elevator.

From Copper Giftercube #3 came a fanjet lifted MrMulti that drifted out with its multipurpose double jointed limbs of which one was a weapon, one was a tool and the other two were manipulators. The giftercubes had by then delivered forth one PRBot, one TTTA android and one MrMulti.

It was becoming clearer, to those in the taskteam that now included the Pridetroopers, that all were products of the testing maze except for the TTTAs themselves. The LyonsPride were not the original ones and the people of Bookcity no more existed in the true Wasteworld than did the people in it. This was somewhat upsetting to the Pridetroopers who decided to change their identities.

The dead supermutants, sent to the PTPO, ‘resurrected’ as friendly allies now much smarter, and disciplined, than they had been. The population was growing but not enough to put too much pressure on the PTPO.

In a large habitation cubechamber, Ellen spoke to Sarana, formerly Sarah. “Do you wish to be a TTTA?”

They sat on highly adjustable chairs while both wore TTTA jumpsuits. They were not the only one there drinking warm beverages though some were also eating snacks.

A team was preparing to leave the PTPO but in the preparations chamber.

Sarana nodded. “Yes, as all 15 of us do. We are all going to adopt the ‘Lyons’ surname.”

Ellen looked very thoughtful. “Yes, then so shall we 13. The Lyons Family will be most pleased for it is logical that they be so.”

It seemed only logical that others should also adopt the surname, of Lyons, including the android, robots, supermutants and superradroaches.

Team Two First In Action

[1]14.1[20]

Henry Lyons led the second team of 10 humans, three robots and the android. They materialised in the half ruined building that the first team had dematerialised last in. As they went further through the building, that seemed to ‘have been’ the offices of some kind of government agency. Thus they came upon a hole, in the floor, leading down to a basement with promises of interesting finds.

The eyebots went down first, spreading out after they did so as to both cover more ground and to be not clumped together as targets. They found there a typical basement with mainly utilities but with some extra storage areas but also a large office. The office was most curious being cluttered with lines of filing cabinets, bookcases almost overflowing with an amazing array of items and three moderately large, old fashioned, wooden desks on wheels.

Yet, most strange, were the items festooning the walls being newspaper articles, photos, diagrams, sketches and much else. The subjects were exotic ranging from alien encounters, monsters encounters and just bizarre happenings classifiable. Werewolves, flying-saucers, distorted humans with strange powers, dark scientific projects, murderous ghosts, psychic madness, cloned supersoldiers and other items made a barely ordered chaos of a pattern.

Henry speaks out. “This is a branch office of the XFiles Archival Research Investigation Agency, the XFARIA often pronounced as a word instead of as an acronym. The XFARIA investigated a wide range of cases based on older, and newer, XFiles. Often new XFiles were created by investigations or at least changed by them. It is all written there. The central office was in WashingtonDC on the east coast of the USA mainland.”

Duskie Lyons, formerly Dusk of the LyonsPride, held her sharpshooter adapted battlerifle but casually for there were no evident targets in that room. “That’s a long way away from here or is that the case? If this is a self contained modded realm, distance might be meaningless to any non modded game zone.”

Henry spoke. “I wish we had a wishling to move all of this room, and others of importance from this building, to the PTPO.”

Which is when they learned they could possibly gain a wishling by wishing for one for they gained a wishling by wishing for it which proved that doing so was not just wishful thinking.

As they went further through the building, they sent other items to the PTPO. While many were practical, every day, some were more unusual and there were a few XFiles taken.

Then they were once more in the maze proper but it was only one way along the street that soon led back to the other street that the first team had departed from to go through the XFARIA building.

[1]14.2[21]

A dust storm came, forcing them to find limited shelter in a rubble wall pocket. A message came, from the ‘portable outpost’ with interesting information that was also useful.

All battlerifles were to be upgraded to the new MPBR configurations with new bottle opener, scope, folding bayonet, grenade launcher, recoil regulator, survival kit and monolauncher additions.

The XFARIA area had appeared, in the PTPO, as five chambers of which two were very large basement types. They were soon proving to be full of surprises being mostly useful, some pleasant but some not so much.

Copper Giftercube #4 brought forth one autotron like a slimmer, faster, more agile and less clumsy version of a protectron robot.

They needed to find Copper Prize Book #2 which would probably be linked with the second of the special copper doors in the PTPO.

They came out of the broiling dust, howling and screeching, like radghouls in some ways but created by something toxic in the dust, with a large dose of high radiation, plus a variant of the FEV. They shuddered as they were killed, further shuddering on the ground before they laying still and their bodies vanishing away. They were dustghouls.

When the dust storm ceased there came no more dustghouls. All the dead ones had gone to the PTPO.

In the PTPO

[1]15.1[22]

As Team #2 moved onward along the street, in the PTPO the XFARIA area was being checked out being the office area and two basement levels below that basement area. The office level had mostly other offices, two meeting rooms, a stationary room, a staff kitchen, ablutions and a rampway down to the next level. That was one mostly utilities with three storerooms, a caretakers’ main area and a big chamber that was an underground parking area, a vehicle workshop and a number of vehicles placed into long term storage mode. Most were general vehicles but there was one flitter and a verticar.

Yet it was the level below that which was, in many ways, more interesting. For there was the secret, real, XFARIA Branch with a some very interest chambers along with the larger number of general purpose ones.

There was a large chamber of a museum, gallery, off neatly arranged armoured glass fronted display cases.

There was a zetan an energy field spacesuit with zetan energy weapons next to it along with 3Dphotos of a zetan corpse on a metal forensics examination table. There was the signature, and printed name, of one Doctor Dana Scullie at the bottom of the photo. Other 3Dphotos showed a crashed, mostly destroyed, zetan scoutsaucer that was largely buried into hard ground.

There was a preserved figure of what seemed to be a man half way through turning into a large wolf. Again there were 3Dphotos with it showing a bloody, dismembered, corpse of another human.

There was a display showing how supposedly spontaneous mass killers, and assassins of certain individuals, were actually created and guided to do what they did. The big display had photos, articles, diagrams and other items.

There were very many more such displays of which some were more bizarre and-or horrific than were others.

Then there was the massive autorobotic XFiles filing network-system that filled most of a large chamber. XFiles could be delivered to either special filing storage or from there to reading booths but it was for reference only with no XFiles being allowed to be removed; even permission to get copies was often difficult if not impossible.

There was a chamber with SSSVR capsulechairs. There a multiple purpose theatre complete with big holographic projector and a large 3Dscreen. There were even some redreamer capsulechairs. There was also a big chamber filled with enclosable work cubicles. Yet there was an even more amazing discovery that was made.

[1]15.2[23]

Statuscapsules were in triple diagonal rows, each having its own balcony of a three tier system. There were 25 on each level and all were filled but not always with humans. There were 36 humans, 14 hybrid human animal animans, 20 animals and five large plants of exotic kinds.

Sarana, and Ellen, went through the data records of those in status; it was soon obvious, to them, that the status sleepers should be woken both for their own good and for that of the group. Generally the sleepers had many skills, much experience and much knowledge.

The process of ‘destatusing’ began.

Meanwhile, the Real LyonsPride out in the Real Wastelands

[1]16.1[24]

Pridetroopers, PAR type Robotroopers, and other type robots moved through the dimly sunlit area of the real Bookcity that was mostly rubble. Pridesquad11 was actually the first Pridesquad but the numbering was meant for military intelligence disguising of just how many Pridesquads were operational. They were seeking valuable data linked with a supposedly large number of deep underground archival centered complexes that were heavily armoured armed.

The SteelOrderhood was going eastward across the supercontinent of NorthAm as it followed an ancient Greyway of a very wide road of extremely hard, self repairing, material as made by ASAs (ancient super aliens). It was used as a very wide, hard, highway as were others. Yet it was not known if this was the real purpose of the Greyways. The SteelOrderhood traveled in massive multiple tracked landships, fanjet lifted hoverships, vertiships and airships. Flitters, that were VTOL on their tails, flew with it along with smaller vertibirds, airboats and helicopters.

Pridesquad11 was trying to track down the source of disturbing energy patterns but also hoped to find any useful loot including valuable books. The SteelOrderhood had different priorities than the SteelBrotherhood and the range of loot, sought for, was much broader than that the SteelBrotherhood would have ordered.

Sarah Lyons remembered defending the right to take pristine condition children’s books back to the LostHills bunker complex and having Steelsages attacking her for wasting time and energy. This was despite that many of those books were educational ones such as mathematics and basic chemistry.

There was no neat maze, to traverse through, just a sea of rubble dotted by buildings partly ruined or even in surprisingly good condition according to their appearances. High overhead a storm threatened as the 18 Pridetroopers, 8 Robotroopers, four Robopackers and three floating eyebots sought at least basically securable, safe, refuge.

Predoomsday books were valuable. The Steelscribes, of the SteelOrderhood, welcomed them all as they did tapes, disks and other forms of data including maps and photographs. Knowledge was stronger possible survival on a ruined world gone insane.

Which is when the eyebots spotted something very interesting, as they moved ahead of the others, even as others soon did so. The big, clean, 3Dsign was an arrow pointing towards a door of a two level building. It read: LYONSPRIDE GO THAT WAY!

Sarah spoke through the 2ways. “Not the most subtle of clues but I ‘sense’ we should go there.”

There was no argument from the others for the humans also gained the same strong impression.

In the PTPO

[1]17.1[25]

Sentinel Sarah Lyons studied the welcoming committee with a slightly stunned expression as Ellen pointed out, with great pride, all the entities now with the surname of ‘Lyons’. “We have our lovely superradroach as a Lyons. Then there are the three special plants. Oh yes, the robots and the android. We all are members of your family now. Isn’t that wonderful?”

Sarah smiled, with her power armour helmet removed. Around them the smallish chamber had been decorated with Predoomsday military paraphernalia being mostly of the USA. “The Lyons Family welcomes you into its folds but asks that, for security reasons, you only use the name here in the PTPO.”

Sarana smiled happily. “A very good solution as security is always important. We have food, drink, a place to rest and some entertainments set out for you.”

When LyonsPride was settled down they were able to observe a musical presentation of TTTAs, robots and others including radroaches racing madly around in circles. There seemed to be at least three songs being sang, at the same time, along with clashes of music. The tough, experienced, Pridetroopers smiled bravely through the whole rendition but were relieved when it was finished.

Sarah smiled from where she sat on a power armour adapted chair. “Well that was a new type experience for LyonsPride and of an extraordinary nature.”

Sarana beamed. “So you liked it, then. We were worried that you might not so we mingled a lot of stuff together just to make sure you did so.”

Vargas smiled. “We could assist you to make it even more wonderful.”

Ellen nodded. “There is much that we need to speak of and to plan for. There is big trouble coming to both this modder’s quasireality and to the greater world quasireality. We got the warning not so long ago. It all began when we TTTAs first came to be in this modder’s realm of Bookburg and Bookcity which is not to be confused with the Bookcity of the greater quasireality.”

Sarana nodded. “That is why we put up that subtle clue of an arrow.”

Sarah smiled. “I do not mean to hurt your feelings but perhaps one needs to redefine the meaning of ‘subtle’.”
