  1. Changing the language setting in Steam will lead to all your games downloading files for that language if they're available (menu tree: steam -> settings -> interface). Not sure if it's possible to change the language setting for a single game.
  2. When people tell you your behavior is confus .. you: RO DAH!!! You always move at a jogging pace, and occasionally sprint for a short time or shout WULD NAH KEST. You try to get your Alchemy skills to 100 by hiring a Chemistry teacher and stealing back the money you pay him. You don't visit more than 5 lectures a week since you cannot train any more this level. You raid terrorist hideouts and somalian pirate ships during night, since that is more effective than getting the rested bonus. You save up $1040 every time you want to kill someone and expect to walk free. You keep shouting TID KLO UL if you're pressed for time during an exam. You won the nobel peace prize but are not surprised that no one ever recognizes you and you get treated like an incompetent newbie every time you join a new club. You apply to every company, club and university in the world and expect they'll gladly except you when you get into that questline a few years later. You run around cutting up and setting on fire black horses, they won't get hurt anyway and it's a good way to level your skills. You tend to your hounds so girls will mistake you for a hot werewolf. You print out the Oghma Infinium, read it, put it back on the shelf, read it again,... 300 times and believe you have godlike powers now.
  3. After playing through the game using axes, I tested swords and maces, found maces to be rather slow and the bleeding damage almost unnoticeable when compared to a sword. On my second playthrough I use swords, and the longer reach, faster speed and higher finisher chance as well as a perk that is always useful make it the best type without a doubt for me. As for the Optics, the drawing animation for one-handed swords is the most awesome one, though I miss that special feeling repeatedly power-attacking someone with an axe in stereoscopic 3d gives me. Swords feel much more elegant in comparison. 4. What I just posted in another thread ironically really fits better here:
  5. Slow Time Shout with all 3 words + Orc Berserker Power is equivalent to the console command "kill". Even Slow Time by itself feels like a cheat. I don't usually use shouts other than Slow Time, Unrelenting Force (push stuff off cliffs, becomes a bit obsolete for living battering rams with the last block perk), Whirlwind Sprint (for faster movement and sometimes against ranged enemies) and Dragonrend though. Also, I swear if anyone ever says "Fus" to me in real life, I will unconsciously respond "Ro Dah". I think that's a failsafe test to recognize Skyrim addicts. You can even "shout" it into a room, to detect all Skyrim addicts who are not undead or Dwemer machines.
  6. You might want to use enchanting to make some Items cutting the mana cost of Alteration and Illusion late-game so you can spam master-level crowd control. The highest cost for cojuration spells (namely permanent summons) should be around 400 mana even with the master perks as well, but since the summons are permanent you won't need to spam them. If you're ok playing an armored wizard, you can enchant armor just as high as robes for less reliance on defensive buffs. Maybe some restoration perks will be nice too, especially recovery and avoid death, but the expert level "Grand Healing" and "Circle of Protection" would also fit your character Idea. You should of course get a follower very quickly. And you won't be able to fortify your own damage output to ridiculous heights like weapon-users are.
  7. Funny similar anecdote: I once wanted to marry someone in skyrim, took her onto a rather dangerous quest on the day before our wedding. When she was gone, I was sure she's dead, turns out she just teleported to the wedding at some point... "Honey, I didn't go because I just assumed you were dead. I would have looked for the corpse, but... I didn't care that much."
  8. Someone noted that most of the time you just see hands and weapons of your char anyway, and even in pure 3rd person games you usually focus mostly on playing, rather than looking at your character. So most of the time you're playing a woman you won't notice/care, but the few times you pay attention to that fact, you're gonna like the eye candy. I've mostly stopped doing that in RPGs though, since those very often have romance options, and in party-based RPGs I can just have the eye candy follow my macho character anyway. Also I can relate better to men in dialogue scenes where gender makes a difference. Theory: Most guys who like to play girls in action games are probably more into "tomboys" rather than "girly girls". I find it weirder that, as a science student in real life, I almost always play warriors. I actually blame bad game design in many games for that, since in games where the following does not apply I love being a mage: 90% of all combat encounters are normally kinda easy, and having to manually cast and target spells in those gets tedious. As does having to sneak up on them at the speed of a snail. Just charging right into a horde off weak mooks and cutting them down is something I enjoy, on the other hand. Buff chains are boring, and mages often need them. 'Nuff said. Rogues unfortunately tend to be lock-openers and trap-disarmers, and a support role like that is not what the main character chosen by destiny to save the world should be IMO.
  9. Even if the entire video of a speed run would be watched to verify (and those videos would be rather long), people would have to open the settings at least after each reload to show they did not change the difficulty in between. And that would still not stop those who can cut videos, which should be... pretty much everyone. Seeing how probably no one will verify 20 hour long or longer videos, in my opinion we should use this thread to just compare (ingame as well as real) time needed for this informally and without declaring any winners. Those who have very good times should also explain the tricks they used. Just my two cents ;) If you want to stick with a formal competition, making a new save often and uploading all saves should make for the best proof, since it'll be possible for the verifying person to just pick out a saves and see if the skill gains and stat changes between each picked save and the next 1-5 ones can be reproduced on master. Similar methods are used in actual science, it's much faster than videos and very reliable if you pick enough saves. As for no scrolls/potions making it hard for warriors, they can still use, for example, restoration and conjuration in addition to hitting with sticks, you know. My first and so far only playtrough, I was a Sword&Board type character on master difficulty with all these restrictions, except using cure disease potions (and another potion you need to drink to complete a certain daedric quest). I died a lot, but I finished every major questline except companions (and thieves guild jobs, which I don't really see as a questline) as well as all dadric quests before 120 in-game days. Unfortunately the save got corrupted from all the quickloading and after that I played around with the console a bit to try out some new perks. So since I overwrote saves all the time, I don't even have any left from before I started using the console  . However, my second playthrough is currently in progress and I'm a werewolf this time before I caught any diseases, so there aren't gonna be any potions at all. Also after going through the hell of playing through the game on master the first time, I barely die now. And I'm saving into a new save very often to avoid corruption this time. If anyone's interested, I could upload those saves as proof once I'm done. Was planning to use the Oghma Exploit asap this time since I've already proven to myself that I'm good at this game and as I mentioned want to try out some perks from skill trees I never use, but I guess I could wait till after the main quest with that.
  10. Tl;dr version: The people you have to kill are very likeable, they should be able to give good characters some quests. Just did the Brotherhood quests to get the Steam achievements despite normally always playing "good guy" characters... And I noticed that a lot of the people I killed were really cool characters with a lot of potential. First of all there should be an option to destroy the brotherhood without having to commit any murders. Commander Maro and his son could play a part in that. For example, what I'd do after learning the first assassination target is taking Grelod into custody for child abuse, and heavily guard the prison. As in, the Dovakhiin will personally stand guard. Then torture the assassin and find the location of the hideout (though maybe Grelods death should be unpreventable, just to show how skilled the DB Guys are). I'd also think it would be very appropriate to be personally thanked by the Emperor after ending the civil war in the Empires favor. Him traveling to Skyrim to inspire the reunification process (and also visit a certain wedding) would make sense considering the reason that has been given for him not visiting was the civil war. Parts from the DB quest could be reused for that, and since some people obviously want him dead, there could be quests about protecting him too. Alternatively you could be invited to the Imperial Palace, after all we know how that looks like from Oblivion. Since you are of dragon blood, you should of course pay your respects to Martins Statue while you're there. Also the Gourmet could give you quests to search out and cook rare ingredients, kinda like in the manga "Toriko". Hunting rare monsters and collecting plants that only grow in places that are really hard to reach. Possibly also with some comedy when people who eat that stuff reacting completely over the top to the taste.
  11. Even not using any potions or food, once you have fully enchanted gear and all that, this game gets too easy on master difficulty. Now I've always loved feeling like a demigod at the end of RPGs like this (it was much more ridiculous in morrowind where you could enchant many more pieces of gear), but once in a while I want to die in a game. And I don't really want to make my character weak on purpose in addition to not using potions, after all I went through lots of dying and reloading for about 50 hours to become this powerful (master difficulty without potions is certainly hard enough for low level chars). Nor do I like the Idea of tweaking the character development system to e.g. weaken enchanting, because I really like that system overall. The solution should definitely be moar epic battles!!! Here are things I'd like to see: Hard Quests: Fighting through actual legions of powerful (especially damage-wise) foes to get to hard bosses with interesting special abilities... preferably being forced to work with the terrain, with really deadly traps, lava/acid pits to shout enemies into, stuff like that. Especially no Draugr Deathlords, they are getting repetetive for me since they are basically normal draugr with better stats and shouts, and I've fought way too many Draugr already in this game. Arena: Enemy NPCs level 50 to 75 with full sets of enchanted high-level gear. Also a ban on doping potions, please. And it definitely should be possible to do team battles or fight multiple opponents at once. Which brings me to my next point: Battle Generator: Could be combined with the arena, but there should be multiple distinct battlegrounds to choose from, and options to randomly generate groups and even armies of different classes of enemies (bandits, undead, dragons...). It should also be possible to generate a big army of enemies and a smaller, lower-leveled army for your own side. Being able to customize and save different army configurations would be nice too.
  12. If you want more stealth damage, enchant your gear with fortify archery... I do about 200 damage with my war axe after maxing out enchanting, and as an Orc I can go up to 400 once a day. And that's for normal attacks, power attacks hit even harder. With bow sneak attacks you should be able to reach similar or higher values I think.
  13. My two most fun dragon fights, both involving third parties getting shouted at by it, were: Chasing after a Stormcloak messenger for a Legion quest, a dragon attacked the messenger. We killed it together, with the Messenger (who I wanted to kill anyways) acting as the tank, lol. Due to master difficulty scaling, she was better suited for that role than my tank-ish char anyway. After plundering the dragon corpse, I used the teleportation-like shout to catch up again, and one-hit-kill the poor lass, since she was apparantly already close to death "for mysterious reasons". Started fighting a dragon on my own, then noticed a giant watching over two mammoths nearby, lured the dragon towards it. Giant killed the dragon, while I, knowing that Giants are stronger than dragons, repeatedly powerattacked the Giant from behind. It still freaking lived after killing the dragon. A few miles of hit-and run, hundreds of arrows and maybe a dozen reloads later, the giant and his mammoths were also taken care of. Definitely in my top 3 of "most epic skyrim battles." Another funny thing about dragons: I wonder how Lydia feels about me only ever dropping by at the home she guards all the time to quickly drop off my dragon bones and scales, which I hoard for the time I'll be able to craft it. I don't even sleep there, since I use the nights for quests, dungeon crawling and dragon hunting and literally do not sleep. That's the patience of a true NPC for you. I imagine it somewhat like this: Lydia: "Greetings my Thane, I respect you very much and would love to help you out with your adventures. Or go on a date or something *wink*." PC, sounding like Gollum: "Then who will guard my precious dragon bones? I can't risk losing my precious treasure. Just stand there forever. kthxbye."
  14. For me, simply creating a shortcut to "TESV.exe" (use search function to find it) and running that (with admin rights, not sure if that's necessary) skips Steam, so you really only need Steam for the activation and never need to start it ever again. If that's still too much Steam for you, your loss on one of the greatest games ever. Note: I actually use Steam all the time since I hate having DVDs flying around and switching them all the time. Also Achievements are nice. But with the recent hacking and all, I can see how you're put off. Edit: lol, put the wrong filename, thanks to the poster below for pointing that out.
  15. I have the same "hardest difficulty, lots of reloading" approch to gaming. Actually, add "stacking healing potions is for sissys" to that, I only use cure disease potions. An exaple of how I play (skip if only interested in Skyrim): I went through Dragon Age 1 on Nightmare in 100 Hours play time (I'd say 50 would be normal) without any character ever getting KO'd and only using a few mana potions on the final boss (since the fight takes a long time and often crashes the game, I got tired of reloading). I absolutely love Master Difficulty, even though I die all the time. Playing as Axe&Shield Orc, and bashing is much more important than blocking itself IMO. And Restoration, for running away (Whirwind Sprint is my favorite shout) and healing back up. Boss-Level enemys can't usually be taken down in one go, even with Berserk Rage (I don't ever rest to abuse it, but I do make the best of my one use a day). But yeah, without perks in Heavy Armor and block, one-hit kills might make this frustrating. Fighting that Draugr with the 1HKO bow from that vid was actually kinda fun, dodging arrows/taking cover is not that hard, and he can be stunned with "Fus" to move in, make him switch to close combat, take off like 10-20% of his health (stunning with bashes in between). Mages really are a big problem, but running away is always an option and I'm planning to use armor enchantments and the resistance perks from the alteration tree later on, playing a Breton would also be a good option I guess, as well as having summons take the damage. As for companions, I don't think they'll live very long on master, and they kinda don't work well with hit&run tactics or climbing "unaccessible" places for bow kills. I'm used to playing games like Gothic without level scaling, running away from things on lower levels and coming back later, or beating them with superior skills, tactics and save scumming is something I really like. For me Skyrim is the best game I ever played. And that's saying something.
  16. Edit: with the skill tree published (http://www.gameranx.com/features/id/3610/article/skyrim-skill-tree-guide/) most of my questions have been answered. Is there a maximum armor class? - Still unanswered Smithing: Does the Dragon Armor perk also allow making dragon weapons? - no. Alteration: What are the required perks to learn Atronach and Magic Resistance? - novice to expert perks. Does Magic resistance stack with the Breton Bonus for a total of up to 55%? - probably? Archery: "Is Hunter's Discipline" a requirement for something else? I'd like to leave it out otherwise... - no. Thanks in advance for any answers. Feel free to use this topic if you have similar questions.
  17. Will a GeForce 9800 GTX+ (1 GB) be able to handle medium detail with stereoscopic 3d (nvidia 3d vision with a 120hz screen to be precise)?
  18. 4 should be: Repeat 1-3 and sell your spare set. That will probably work in Skyrim too. With respawning dragons and all that. At that point, smithing might become much better for moneymaking than any stealth skills...
  19. *cough* double damage dealt, half damage take *cough*. It'll become even more powerful with better weapons and perks, and if you can have it active simultaneously with a dragon shout, double damage and time slowing together will be rather insane. The elemental resistances (scales since the enemies will do more damage late-game) and the powers boosting your regeneration by tenfold will also never cease to be useful. Also I don't like using potions, stacking so many that you can never die feels like cheating.
  20. The maximum armor rating known from oblivion might nerf improved Heavy Dragon Armor a bit... +150% armor rating from heavy armor peaks when wearing a matched set +100% from smithing (probably) + Shields AR, also improved by that amount Sounds like that could easily above 100... I hope this won't make shields less useful on high levels, I want to play an orc Juggernaut. Also, can someone confirm if Daedric (as opposed to Dragonic) is the highest tier for weapons? These two sources provide different descriptions for the dragon armor perk: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing - "Create Dragon armor and weapons at forges." http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Blood_Reaper/Skyrim_Dragon_Armor - "Dragon Armor – Can create Dragon armor at forges, and improve them twice as much" I'd hate having to go the light materials route with my heavy armor char to save that one skill point, but if Daedric is highest for weapons, it would be reversed and even light armored chars would need the heavy route for the best weapons... For late-game optimised Chars all smithing perks serve just to unlock Daedric and Dragonic.
  21. Only new thing I know of is Shortbows. List of crafting materials is here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Smithing
  22. There will be three standing stones (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Standing_Stone) outside the first dungeon of the game. Only one can be active at any time, and they provide 20% faster levelups for magic, stealth and combat skills respectively. So the fastest way would be concentrating on one of the skillsets at a time while having the corresponding stone active. I think starting with your favorite kind of skillset and playing through the storyline in the process of leveling it, then making dungeons harder by using the other two sets would be the way to have fun while doing this. As for races, I think if you're aiming for the maximum level, the special abilities should be much more important that the starting skill bonuses. After all, they will actually still matter at level 75. The go-to-race for powergamers is probably Orcs, possibly High Elves if you want to be a mage.
  23. EDIT: Solved, just had to adjust the registry key for DAUpdater. Threat can be closed now. I recently moved my Steam folder to another hard drive partition under Windows Vista Home Basic. After that, all my Steam games continued to work flawlessly, except for Dragon Age: Origins. It now only recognizes my purchased DLC while I am logged OUT of my account. After this, I bought the Wardens Keep DLC, but now that DLC is flagged as "unauthorized" whether logged in or not. My online account still correctly lists all DLC I own. Also, I cannot uninstall the game using the launcher (button grayed out), it only works with Steam. Things I tried that did not work: - Re-installing the Game - Deleting the Bioware Folder under My Documents, then manually reinstalling DLC Since the partition where Steam was located originally is almost full, I'd really prefer not to move it back there.
