If the courier is female, should her name be Penelope? -
Who or what, and where, is an appraiser?

What is priority #1 when you leave the vault?
Staghound replied to TheOriginalEvilD's topic in Fallout 3's Spoilers
I head for Megaton, collecting the goodies from the hollow rock on the way. Then do the bomb disarming, to get the home, and the leaking pipes. Then go to Moira and start the Survival Guide quests. As well as the Super-Mart I clear the Springvale School. Then as soon as I can I go to Rivet City and recruit Jessi as a a companion. Having Jessi around reduces your experience earning rate (Which you may, like me, think is not a bad thing) but she is very useful and has some fun dialogue. Then I try to complete Moira's Quests before getting stuck into the main quests.... -
How about a 'Fax Mactor' make-up kit - a beautician's bag which can be used say four times to give a +1 bonus to charisma for 24 hours. (Female characters only). Insect repellent : an aerosol spray can with limited charges which will cause ants, radroaches, scorpions, etc. to flee when they get sprayed (a melee weapon, very short range, but could be a life-saver in an emergency!).

Thank you for those kind words

I Dance to Meet My Lover I dance to meet my lover: He greets me with a smile, And I would have no other His love doth me beguile. We bring each other presents Each seeking to surprise; Any gift he gives to me Is magic in my eyes I sing a song of loving As he embraces me; When we are together How blissful then are we. I love to lie beside him And gaze on him in sleep; My love is like an ocean, So vast, so wide, so deep. And waking in the morning To his loving touch, I do my best to show him That I love him oh! so much! I dance to meet my lover When we have been apart; I dance to show my love for him That's like to burst my heart.

I frequently play female characters (usually bards) on NWN role-play servers. I never make any secret of the fact that I am an elderly straight male (with several grandchildren). And I have to say that I have never been privately or publicly insulted for playing cross-gender. I believe that this is because, though I say so myself, I am quite good at role-playing, and so other players see my characters, not me, when we inter-act. And that I think is the key : if you are playing in a true role-play environment, people should react to your character, not to you. (And if it is not a true role-play environment, there's little point in playing cross-gender, or as anything other than yourself).

Have a look at the thread 'new patch' in NV general discussion, which has a number of pointers one or more of which ought to help you .

How much stuff is there to do in the Wasteland?
Staghound replied to Aethelheim's topic in Fallout 3's Discussion
Same for me .... and long after the Enclave appears to have been destroyed, you still find Enclave outposts, wandering patrols, and even Vertibird drops, all over the place. And of course not all places of potential interest have way-markers on them, so exploring is not just a matter of moving from unfilled triangle to unfilled triangle  -
Some of my issues with Fallout NV
Staghound replied to marharth's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Spoilers
Where did the Courier collect the platinum chip from? The Agent at Prim knows what all six packages contained, and tells the Courier that the mysterious stranger decided not to take the package but leave it for the next on the list. To me this strongly suggests that the Courier collected the package from Prim. On the other hand it seems the Agent didn't recognise the Courier when asked about the package. Prim is the only Company office we know about - but the Agent there runs his own business, it seems, and does the Mojave packaging as a sideline, i.e. as an agent, not as a principal or area manager or whatever. So the whole opening of the story line is confused from the outset, and while it is interesting to speculate what really happened, it is also pointless, because the plot line was, IMO, just not properly worked out. And so I come back to my earlier point, that it might have been better to spend some time and effort getting the start of the story line sorted out, and less elaborating all sorts of rather futile details about what happened at and after the end. On which note I shall go back to exploring, and getting my character kiled in caves full of Deathclaws, Nightstalkers and Cazadores, since I feel no urge at all to play the end-game ........................ -
Goodsprings houses when will they die?
Staghound replied to oldnotweak's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Well I reported over a week ago that 88 out of 234 building mods were sited in or near Goodsprings. It must be getting on for 100 now. So are there that many existing buildings in the town? -
The point is that good quality weapons just don't degrade at the speed the weapons in this game degrade: I have handled bren guns which had been in regular use (albeit only for training and range shoots) for over 20 years and they were still accurate and reliable. I used the same Smith and Wesson .38 revolver as a personal issue for over 2 years, firing an average of 50 practice rounds a week, and never had any problems with it. The only really important thing is to clean a gun properly after firing it. In other words degradation should be prevented, not repaired, by regular maintenance. Combat weapons are designed for hard use in rugged conditions, and firing them shouldn't damage them. Barrel pitting caused by failure to clean them after firing is the main problem, followed by failure to keep them clean and oiled.

How do I create a new Camera View?
Staghound replied to lolzinator42's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Console commands are what you need : tfc : gives you direct control of the camera position and angle tm : blanks out the HUD and leaves the screen clear of everything but picture. See the Wiki for other tricks you can use, such as freezing action, but these two commands will let you set up screenshots for all sorts of uses. -
Some of my issues with Fallout NV
Staghound replied to marharth's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Spoilers
There are so many holes in the plot of FONV that the only thing to do is ignore them and just enjoy the game play. If the developers had spent as much time just on developing the opening of the plot as they did on developing all the different endings (see the Wiki) the game would be greatly improved. Consider this: the Courier's instructions for the platinum chip include a standard reminder that the Courier is liable to recompense the client for loss of the package, which in itself gives a reason for the Courier to go after the chip to try to get it back. But this is totally overlooked in the development of the plot as is. And how does the Courier end up in Goodsprings? The package was collected from Prim, and surely the Courier would have been aware, or been warned by the Company Agent, that the route via Goodsprings and Sloan was extremely dangerous? And what about the mysterious person who abandoned the couriership? This looks like the start of a plot line, and suggests all sorts of questions, but is totally ignored and forgotten once the Courier has learnt about it. Oh dear ... I could go on and on, but as I said at the start, the best thing to do is ignore the plot and get on with the game! -
Getting into nellis is, for me, the one sequence in the game where I consider cheating (TGM or whatever) to be totally acceptable. Why? Because the idea of the Boomers defending their base against lone infiltrators by firing 40 or 60 medium or heavy artillery shells at them is absolutely ludicrous. I hate to think how many millions of rounds they must have started with 200 years (?) ago. There are plenty of land mines in the game, and a minefield covered by a good sniper or two would be practical and, more importantly, believable.

Many years ago, as a change from AD&D, my Friday-nighters played a few games of Gamma World. This, like Fallout, was set in a post-nuclear America. What attracted me (as a DM) was the ability ofr players to take on animal-strain characters: Bears, wolves, pumas and such which had mutated in the direction of much higher intelligence, and were not only to be found in 'tribal' groups, but also in association with humans in mixed villages. So the suggestion for a mod is for a 'mixed' village in some remote corner of the map, where some of these animal-strain semi-humans might be found. I would imagine that only one 'race' be found - probably ursine in characteristics. I can think of various quests that could arise, but won't attempt here to influence any potential modder. But I would like to see some animal mutations that were not just bigger badder cannon-fodder! PS This might also spark a mod for FONV?

I am a little surprised that no-one has come up with the idea of improvised armoured cars - basically trucks with boiler-plate armour and a machine gun or two on mountings. These were made and used in the Spanish Civil War; early (WWI) vintage armoured cars, which were not much superior to the home-made variety, were still in use in the British Army in the Western desert during the early part of WWII. These would be largely road bound, but there are sufficient roads and passable terrain around New Vegas that I am sure they would be found useful. But I doubt they would be much help in the final battle for the Dam. In terms of game balance - some of the 'baddies' could probably create or capture A/cars for their own use; and improvised a/cars, not having proper high-tech armour plate protection, would be very vulnerable to grenades, missiles and energy weapons ....

I'd like to expand this request, if I may .... FO3 mods offered a variety of clothing which is just not available on FONV. I'd like to see more casual clothing of all sorts. (And in particular some bikinis so I can do a 'non-adult' version of my 'Fair Warning' image share, which has to be confined to the '(Sup)' section. where it gets much less attention than 'regular' images do)
