In response to post #24887219. Agreed. Heck, if anything, the missed opportunity on Bethsoft's side of things is that they could have been bundling "core experience" enhancing mods, helping the authors hash out incompatibilities, and releasing those as a DLC-sized bundle. It would create a legit value-for-profit framework as well as providing the necessary QC to protect consumers. I'm sure other kinds of mods could be bundled similarly. It would also create a "suburbs" separate from, yet complimentary to the "wild west". :) -

In response to post #24871339. Unfortunate, but very very true, man. I just rushed my last save to endgame because I plan on flushing the deck. I will not say that I didn't enjoy seeing the artistry or the contributions made by some of the mods I used on this run; as a narrative-oriented player, one of the things I enjoy about modding a game is how we each can alter the narrative for each other's experience of the game...but I'm definitely going to have to reassess my posture on a few things going forward. -

In response to post #24870864. This is a five-star post, sir. You raise several salient points, I too would be interested in seeing the data. Heck, I know my own "traffic" increased exponentially over this weekend. What can I say, I'm normally not very chatty. :) -

In response to post #24871519. #24873989, #24876239 are all replies on the same post. Already working on it. I only started become active recently. In on of the previous topics D0 posted on this clusterf*ck of a topic, I mentioned that I had only begun teaching myself how to use the tools of skyrim modding. I'm still not sure where or how (or even IF) I'll be releasing what I create, but it'll happen. :) One thing is for certain: If I ever do release my creations to the world at-large, it will never be for profit. It will never be on the Steam Workshop. -

I do try to avoid name calling, but I will call stupid behavior what it is. Most of this thread is full of stupid. Go ahead, accept Bethesda's offer. I bet every single one of you won't see a single bit of useful profit from anything you create. If you think trash-talking or belittling part of the community, or attempting to invalidate the opinions of one part of the community will net you anything, you are incorrect. Stop being stupid. Be productive instead. -

In response to post #24878574. #24878624, #24879604 are all replies on the same post. Money can make people stupid. It's a shame, really. Of all the modders who hopped on valve's offer, He's probably the only one I'd have cashed out for. Not like that though. Never like that. This issue has become so toxic and contentious I can't even donate in good faith now. Too much attitude, too many accusations. I'll see where things lie after a cool-down period. -

In response to post #24761029. Actually, I think we've sussed out the problem with their numbers. They're only able to track what goes down on the workshop, not here or (the nameless place), or ModDB, etc. Sooo, yeah. That's the only way I can see their numbers without calling them flat out liars. -

In response to post #24756264. It's insane that the handful that are for this are willing to accept sweatshop-terms for their so-called labor. Again, short-sighted psychology. They really thought that the only thing that would change would be that they were receiving money. No QC, No overhead, just playing with toys, and getting paid. It's a pretty dream, if not very pragmatic. -

I hadn't thought in those terms., Workshop *would* be the only way they'd have the ability to see who's doing what. Speaking in terms not including the recent debacle, the workshop is a shitshow! Who in their right mind would use it for modding if they knew of alternatives? I don't know a single person who plays without modding, but I also don't know anyone who relies on steam for their mod content. -

In response to post #24758289. #24758584 is also a reply to the same post. Someone on Gopher's Soundcloud stream put this pretty perfectly in perspective: "In my opinion there can't be an open system for this, paid mods are closer to DLC in business terms and in value to the customer; the only difference is the nature of the labor. Paid mods should be 'curated', vetted and quality checked by Bethesda themselves; Bethesda should not be taking a cut for something they would not release themselves. Mods should be pitched like real projects with some scope with the developer being trusted by Bethesda as they would any contractor they use. At least that's something like this should be used when demanding a hefty pay wall, some of my most played games are under $10; I expect something at least a fraction of the quality, not $2 for 1 sword, or 50c for some .ini edit." That's what all the people arguing FOR it are not seeing; They think "I can keep doing what I'm doing and all that changes is now I'm making money for it!" When in fact the whole paradigm has shifted! People are much more flexible when it costs nothing, and infinitely less so when you want them to pay for a thing. -

In response to post #24758224. #24758554, #24758859, #24758979 are all replies on the same post. @dirty companies were changing their stance on modding BEFORE all this. For years, actually. Modding conflicts with DLC and cash shops, and those things are GREAT from a dev/distro's point of view. Why let the players make and distribute FOR FREE that which we can squeeze nickels and dimes out of them for? So, it was certain that one day someone would try something along these lines. I'm surprised they were so blatant about the profiteering on the initial attempt; but not unhappy about it. It made the case much more stark from the outset and cast the whole thing in a pretty clear light. -
