Maybe a solution to the CrashToDesktop (CTD)
AnArcticAnt replied to RaoulDuke76's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Doesn't seem to do it for everyone - I still have random CTDs, and this option seems already activated by default. Still worth a shot though, for anyone else having problems! -
Is it even possible to intimidate guards?
AnArcticAnt replied to MrTUN3R's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
What makes sense is that guards can't be intimidated. Their job is to be tough and they feel tougher than you. I mean that would make sense right? They are guards if they don't feel tough how are they going to do their job? Think of Policemen. They are supposed to be tough to deal with assholes all day; if they don't feel tough they won't do their job right. lol, luxwing kinda ninja'd me there, probably should've made it obvious I was asking thesapien. :P -

Call me stupid if you must, buuuuut... in what way does "you cannot persuade soft people" make sense? -
This is true, but only as long as you do not have the "Assassin's Blade" Sneak perk. Note that the 15x multiplier only applies to daggers, whereas the "Backstab" perk, granting x6 damage, is applied to all weapons. Now, assume a given dagger has a base damage of 50, whereas a mace of the same material and upgrading (they're both flawless, or exquisite, or whatever,) hits, say... a random number, 105. "Backstab" would allow you to hit pretty high - 300 with the dagger and 630 with the mace. However, once you get "Assassin's Blade", a sneak attack with the mace would still hit 630, whereas the dagger would now hit 750. See now what daggers are for? :D

Let me see if I got this straight... you don't want to go through savegame mods, because you have no interest in them? Would it be safe to assume you haven't already viewed mods by category, by any chance? Only see the type of files you want to see. That'd be my first suggestion towards what I think your issue might be, even though your opening post really isn't too clear.

So it seems that people all over the internet ever since the last patch have had issues with random crashes and frozen loading screens. Some seem to be fine, some of us less so. Tired of being one of these less fortunate people, I've decided to ask if anyone smarter and more knowledgeable than me knows a solution to this issue, since I'm not going to bother waiting for a patch that probably won't work anyway without at least trying my absolute best to solve the problem. SO! I figured I'd finally ask for help personally, see if I can figure out what the hell is going on here. Tthe game frequently crashes, without even giving me an error message, when I run in the wilderness. And we're not talking cross country here, we're talking about not being able to run from the city gates to the stables here. Among the issues I've heard others discuss are savegame corruption/bloating, which seems reasonable as my save files are starting to crawl towards 14MB (currently at 13.7), and another character I made, which is currently at 3.41MB, managed to run from Riverwood to Whiterun without issues. If this is the case, is there anything I can do to undo its effects? One of the problems my search has come across is conflicting sources - for instance have I heard about uGridstoLoad, but haven't dared implement it since I don't understand if it stabilises or worsens the game (and my guess being on the latter). I've heard about texture mods being a problem, but removing the only one I had didn't fix it. I've even heard that my graphics card (or rather, chipset) being so useless would hinder me from running the game, but considering the hundreds of hours I've played, this hardly seems reasonable (does it?) I've checked the Steam forums, I've checked the Bethesda forums, I've checked random other forums that have come up when googling. My computer had some memory issues - whenever too many applications ran at once, I would get warning messages that some programs would have to be shut down to continue running (even though ignoring these messages resulted in little to no ramifications). I decided to try and counter this by freeing up over 11GB of space on my hard drive and having my swap file readjusted (both automatically and manually) and I haven't succeeded in resolving the issues at all. I tried Windowed mode, both resolutions available... this made the problem even worse, as now the game would often freeze and then crash upon loading! (I got an error message one time it did that though, that was nice...), I tried new drivers for the aforementioned crappy chipset, to no avail. I also tried installing the latest version of ENBSeries, which seemed to smooth my awful FPS out (placebo effect, I suppose?) by a modicum, but did nothing to help with stability. It seems the game crashes faster the faster I travel - werewolf sprint crashes almost instantly, regular sprint pretty quickly too, running gives around the aforementioned distance of between most cities' gates and their stables, whereas walking allows me to get a few hundred feet away before it collapses. It also crashes near-instantly upon entering certain interiors - only ones I've noticed so far are Understone Keep (which I've heard others complain about as well), Valthume (main chamber only, vestibule and catacombs appear fine) and Jorrvaskr. Note that this is only because I haven't entered very many interiors since the problems appeared, not because I think it's a rare occurrence, it's probably disturbingly common. Another peculiarity that I've seen and don't think I've heard of anywhere else is that the game seems to hang up during loading screens - new hints and tips appear and the smoke keeps moving, but once the song finishes another one won't start. This, however, seems to resolve itself if I simply minimise the game with Ctrl + Alt +Del and then opening it again, which is nice if somewhat annoying, and rather strange. As for my specs... Processor: Intel® Celeron® 2.20GHz 2GB RAM Mobile Intel® 4 Express Series Chipset Family (Yes, I realise this is an awfully low-end computer, but it's worked for running the game so far...) So now I'm pretty much at my wit's end and don't know what to do, assuming there's anything I can do until the next patch is released. If someone knows anything, anything at all, to help me, please, by all means, do so. If you need any more info (for helping you helping me), feel free to ask.

I must say, the necromage perk thing is incredibly interesting. Haven't extensively played as a vampire yet, but that's sure to be worth remembering, should I ever try a vampire (which I might quite soon!) Also, a big lol to any of you silly people complaining about losing regenerative abilities in sunlight. Do you guys know what vampires are, and what they do? Heck, of the thousands of hours I spent on Oblivion, I spent so many with a vampire character (both the slightly silly vanilla concept and various mods) that once I cured myself I had to actively remind myself that sunlight wasn't dangerous any more. And let me remind you, here we aren't talking about stunted regeneration, here we're talking about bloody dying if you go outside as a vampire. If you're a vampire, stay inside during the day! Raid a dungeon or something while waiting for nightfall! Or why not train alchemy and enchanting, for instance. There's plenty to keep you entertained indoors while the sun is out, and there should be, because if you're a vampire, you shouldn't be outside. Honestly, where the hell do you people get this idea? http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/wallbash.gif Starting to think that perhaps, just perhaps, the faults of the game lie not entirely with Bethesda, but with certain... others as well.

Limitation of the engine? That's horse crap, horses were fine in Oblivion from what I can remember. (Manoeuvrability-wise anyway.)

Why do you think the Stormcloaks won't attack the Thalmor?
AnArcticAnt replied to ArenaMaster's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
*growl* You count yourself fortunate I won't side with the Stormcloaks in a million years... maybe I'll just stay away from the Internet until I've completed the game to 100%. For now, I'll assume what you just said is irrelevant to anyone joining the Legion, and we'll be fine... When people spoil something for me, I like to spell out "spoiler tag" for them in their own blood. -

What did I just read... spoilers, people, spoilers. Is it that difficult to show some respect for people who don't like spoilers? http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/mad.gif -
The best part would be how you subtly crafted the post to say you disliked the Bard's college, and then try to convince everyone that the entire game thus blows. Good show! No, I'm not disappointed. I love this game. It's not perfect. I never did expect the perfect game. I did get one of the most incredible games I've ever played though, and that's good enough for me. I expect it to become even better with DLC and mods in the future. I remember something my sister often said to me when we were younger: "Not the best, just better than everyone else." and I feel it suits Skyrim pretty nicely. Making the perfect game is more or less impossible - making one as incredible as Skyrim, hard enough, and it's bound to go steadily upwards. With all that said... ... I haven't checked out the Bard's college yet. I'm in no rush. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

AnArcticAnt replied to ArenaMaster's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Ulfric doesn't care about Talos worship being outlawed, or at least it's not his prime priority, he only cares about the throne of the High King. Bothering the Thalmor won't help there, his forces can't be stretched out to try and drive them out of Skyrim. Besides, assuming Ulfric ever did get the throne (pray to Talos he won't), he would simply have the Empire (and everyone else) out of his country. This would probably include the Thalmor (unless he befriended them, or vice versa, which wouldn't seem entirely unlikely), but as of now, it's a sort of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" as far as he and the Thalmor go. In short, Ulfric is a short-sighted fool and the Thalmor like it that way. -
Impressing after 100 hours still - Minor Spoiler

Went there for the first time today myself as well, and I can't help but agree. So dark, but so beautiful. Definitely something else for TES-standards. -
Weapons and Armor degrading out of nowhere
AnArcticAnt replied to biggrease's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Yeah, my first suggestion would be going to the "Magic" menu and check the Active Effects list for any diseases that may be affecting you, sounds like a good start. Otherwise, I thought they removed weapon and armour degrading from this game? http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/blink.gif -
Need your skyrim save files (without mods)
AnArcticAnt replied to Greenbuddhas's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Eh, you found your way onto the forums. I'm pretty sure it took me the better part of a year to figure that part out, we were all new at one point, I'm glad to help. Now, see if you can figure out how to conjure one of the mods to lock this before anyone begins hunting for cheap posts like I'm doing! EDIT: For the below question, try C:\Users\[name]\Documents\My Games\Skyrim. Mind you that this is on Windows 7. -
On one hand, they have no reason not to activate any safeguards they have should they fail (that I can think of, anyway), but on the other, they have no reason or contractual obligation to save your game data either, should it come to happen... just sayin'. Beware.

So basically, you're looking for this. Homepage > Files > Categories > Savegames... or just, you know, the hyperlink back there in the text. :P Now, most of these are basically "Check out my sexy Nord broad I made!", but there should be a fair few games with genuine progress in them as well, if you look hard enough. -
Maybe I, while doing my best to read every single post here, missed the answer, or found it and then forgot about it, but there's still one simple question looming in the back of my head here... WHY STEAM? What incentive does the gamer have to use Steam? I fail to see them, someone please point them out to me. It clearly isn't privacy or freedom, heh. Is it community? If I want a Skyrim community, I got a lovely, sprawling, highly active forum right here. Is it convenience? The hassle a lot of people are having with the software should stand equally heavy with the hassle others have of "losing discs", so I'm not sure how this works out in any gamer's favour. WHY STEAM? What incentive does the developer have to use Steam? I fail to see them, someone please point them out to me. I'm not here to endorse, support, or facilitate piracy, but it should be clear to any company, any corporation, any business interests involved, that Steam as a DRM solution is ineffectual at best, and exacerbation at worst by now... or? Maybe desperate times call for desperate measures, but publishers are only bringing themselves to ruin by giving people reason to pirate their games instead. Despite Skyrim being incredibly buggy at release, I have faith in Bethesda ironing those out eventually, if they are at all able to. As far as I know (again, feel free to prove me wrong here), this can, technically, be done with or without Steam. Well, the way things are right now they cannot effectively be delivered to us players without it, but on a coding level so to speak, Steam has no place in the functioning, developing, and improving of the game. Steam only has a place in the playing of the game, the use of the product by its purchasers, by forceful demand. Steam appears to exist purely because of Steam. I have no problem with capitalistic systems done right (sure, I doubt anyone has any problem with anything being done right, but right probably only exists as a hypothetical concept anyway these days), and I support them. A good, or at least acceptable product (Skyrim, "the game") exists - and by proxy, its developers Bethesda, exists because gamers ("the users") will it to be so. Likewise, gamers in such form exist only because Bethesda will it to be so (they will be deprived of the product they want, were Bethesda's existence to cease), in a monetary symbiosis and harmony. Then capitalism's ugly, douchebag brother corporatism rears its disgusting head, and so Steam exists only because Steam wills it to be so, completely by its own volition, and continues to upset the harmony by raping both users and providers for its own, selfish needs. No one gains on Steam's existence, except obviously Steam itself. Wow, quite a ramble up there, really needed to get that out of my system. Hope my point remains clear despite all this though. Steam is useless. Hopefully even its staunchest supporters, agreeing or not, read this and see why so many people feel Steam is useless.

Pretty sure I heard, more than once, that "Greybeards suddenly cease giving word locations out" is yet another possible glitch. I'd suggest going through the wiki list linked above, and start with uncleared dungeons, especially the barrow-type ones.
-
Except the Thalmor are operating on the side of the law here. The death sentence against you was legally granted, no? Still weird that one would count as murder and two wouldn't... a bug seems likely, or there's some incredibly bizarre and obscure variable deciding what is and isn't murder. I'm guessing that if it's not already possible, once the CK is out someone tech-savvy could find the technical definitions for murder/assault... unless someone who knows what they're looking for, and where, is already capable of finding out? Would be nice to know.
-
Yeah, I dread finishing A Daedra's Best Friend because of Barbas' incessant shoving. I don't care if he's immortal, get a normal dog. Get Vigilance. :P
-
Nope, no Thalmor's been out to get me like that... yet. I did come across a Dark Brotherhood assassin once though, who was feeble enough to get killed by a Frostbite spider. Immoral hoarder I am, I proceeded to loot the guy, and, well... he had a note. Someone sent the Dark Brotherhood to kill me. Mind you that I haven't gone anywhere near that questline, heck when it happened I hadn't gone near like any quest line! I'm guessing it's simply a random encounter of some sort, another one of those trippy Bethesda ideas about immersion.

Did you consider asking for a password reset? Try that and see what happens, usually works as a catch-all starting point for login issues.
-
I bought Vigilance the dog from Markarth. He barks a bit too often, but he's the most badass dog on the planet. Survived multiple giant, bear, and dragon attacks. He also seems to stick around until he dies or you tell him to go home, since it even said more than once "Your follower has grown tired of waiting and returned home", except, you know... he didn't. So yeah, Vigilance the dog. Markarth. Remember who sent you. ;-) This J'Zargo fella sounds major badass though, and since I just lo-ho-hoooove the Khajiit, I'll have to keep him in mind.

Even if they're outlaws - and out-for your hide - killing people is still murder, no? You're going to have a hard time convincing people that killing someone, even if they're just some bandit, isn't murder, really. It is weird, however, that it only seems to increase if you're being stealthy... by the same logic as previously, it's still murder if you're upfront about it. Heck, I'd argue that's an even stronger degree of murder! :P As for the "Your crime has been observed" message in Oblivion... you realise that's a signal from the Dark Brotherhood, right? Only shows up when you kill your very first innocent, the assault count went up for bandits in that game as well, with no notification.
