  1. yes yes yes, please. I went to a lot of trouble building a HUGE wall around Sanctuary, then today Gunners attack and they spawn INSIDE the walls, wtf, all that work for nothing?! >=(
  2. adding support for this. I have no idea why Bethesda went backwards on this. In Oblivion having a keychain mod was a must due to the insane clutter keys created in the inventory, and it was addressed by Bethesda themselves in subsequent games, so to have it go BACK to the Oblivion way of doing things is baffling.
  3. Yeah, I've heard. but I never learned that until too late for many. There needs to be a dialogue option to send them home. this is the mod request section, seems like a good place to ask for it. My sanctuary is filled with followers, some of which I have no interest in using again, or for RP reasons I would like sent back to their place of origin (like Piper)
  4. Try Automatic Variants. It will replace textures too, but it is highly configurable, you can adjust the textures it uses to have just the white and the vanilla colours, so you will still get the vanilla colours but the white one is still pretty likely to show up. Every stable will have a random selection of horses. It makes buying a horse a bit of an adventure, a quest to find the one you really love. if the one you want doesn't show up as a purchasable horse, disable AV for a bit, then re-enable it and a new randomized selection of horses will be made. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/21377/? It's one of my favorite mods, so many pretty horses and different colours of goat and blah blah too. There is also white Frost mods. I use Slof's which is not on the Nexus, but easy enough to find, or there are other ones. this is my game using both Automatic Variants for the chocolate palomino, and white Frost. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=425188854
  5. So I hadn't played any Nexus games in a while, then started playing Fallout 4, and got some mods for that. This caused NMM to update, I have no idea what version it was before the update, but when i went into the Skyrim section, it said it had to reinstall all my mods.... I probably shouldn't have, but did anyway, things didn't quite go smoothly, but according to WryeBash, I have all the same mods I did before installed again except one, not sure where it got to, but it was fairly inconsequential, just altered the loot in barrels a bit. all the important mods are still there and functioning.... but every time i load a game, all the progress i had made in any mod is gone. My character is nearly naked because the modded in armor is gone, all my progress in Forgotten Magic Redone is gone, Frostfall is back to me looking up at the sky, my backpack is gone, etc. but these mods are still active. I can bring up the MCM menu for Forgotten Magic just fine, for instance. What is going on here? Shouldn't everything be coming back if all the same mods are installed? Is there any way to get the progress back? re-forging the armor won't be too much of a hassle but all that time leveling up spells in Forgotten Magic? I may as well start the game again. :(
  6. I started to get more frequent crashes, especially outdoors, recently and eventually tracked it down to savegame bloat being the culptit, you may have a mod that's leading to bloat due to faulty scripts or just being a really intensive mod, or something. My save was around 40MB when I started having problems, and it was creeping ever upward even if i just left my character idling. I took some drastic actions in order to save the character, and got it down to between 15 and 17 (it fluctuates) and things have been much better. this is how I got the savegame down to more reasonable levels: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31675/ Now, be forewarned, do this as a LAST RESORT, It has some side effects, some are weird but nothing game breaking, like Adrienne Avenicci, Sapphire and a couple other NPC's just standing around in one spot all day and night, but it may have also broken the Civil War quest for me, so, fair warning, only try it after eliminating other possibilities and you are finding the game unplayable due to crashing. Start a new character with your current mods, and see if it crashes while playing. If that character is fine, there is something in your current character's save that is wrong. I am not entirely sure which mod was chiefly responsible for the problem, I noticed some wonky scripts with Wyrmstooth and Armed to the Teeth, so axed those, as well as a few others that I just thought were probably generating a lot of data to be saved, like SkyBirds, and my saves seem to be staying within reasonable levels now. a mod I didn't have that others seem to have frequent problems with causing bloat is Sounds of Skyrim If you use an ENB, you may also want to consider disabling it, or hitting Shift+F12 while outdoors, or simply lower your graphics settings, as hitting your GPU limit can also cause a crash.
  7. What mods were conflicting? Curious minds want to know. Sorry for the slight necro-post, but I would like to know this as well. I had a savegame that was approaching 40 MB, and would go up if i just let my character stand around in an empty house idling, I'm sure it's due to runaway scripts. So far I've narrowed it down to Armed to the Teeth, which I had installed, but then uninstalled it after it didn't work right, but the scripts were still going in the background, and maybe Wyrmstooth, but would like to know if i should be looking at something else as well.
  8. I'm a vampire, I don't want to be cured, but the cure is the ONLY thing the innkeepers will talk about any more when you ask them about rumors, and it's preventing me from starting the Ebony Blade quest without the aid of the console. It should be that once you've talked to Falion, whether you follow through on the cure or not, their rumors topics return to normal, so you don't get blocked out of quests triggered by asking about rumors because you are a vampire. Could someone do this? HAS someone done this? I've looked, but couldn't find anything.
  9. I know this is a bit late, but just came on this topic in Google... You know a playable Snow Elf mod already exists, right? 2 of them, in fact. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21936 (I use this one, personally, and includes females, which the next one does not) http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/22037 And they're well done, they don't break with vampires or werewolves which seems to be a bit of a problem with a lot of custom races, and the first one has full custom armor support (I've been using modded in armor for my character with no problems, even brand new mods). Yeah, the female textures are a bit wonky, so I wouldn't complain about a texture pack for it fixing the female skin tone to make them less pink, and the the extra eyes and such, but you could save yourself a lot of work if you just built this as an addon for the existing mods, or contact the mod author and offer up your textures/quest to be included, and people who are already using one of them could benefit from it without starting over or using the console to change their race, which is risky.
  10. so, I've been having this weird glitch that's not like, game breaking, and is really kinda funny, but I would like to resolve it all the same... the problem is naked bandits. And naked me, if I wear their armor. I know there are 4 variants of fur armor, in my game, it appears one of them is completely invisible, and makes anyone wearing it, male or female, appear naked. Not an invisible torso due to a missing mesh or something, naked. I know some fur armor is meant to be bare chested, but this is more than that, underwear is showing and all. I think it's the bare chested armor that's the culprit. I am running a ton of mods, so I am sure one of them is the culprit, but before I go through checking each one, i figured I'd ask if anyone else had this problem. 11. Oh thank you both for this. Suddenly I was crashing consistently upon entering Castle Volkihar, and I couldn't figure out why... uninstalled the mods I had added since the last time I'd visited the castle and nope, still crashed every time i opened the front door. It sucked because I was like... maybe a third of the way through the questline... But I too had tried the flowing capes mod but forgot to delete the ini changes, deleted them and it's loading again. Would have probably taken me hours to figure out without this. What's weird though is that I had been to the castle since I tried the mod and after I had (partially) uninstalled it and it didn't crash, but this one time it was just crash-tastic.
  12. It's not exactly a summon, but Convenient Horses lets you whistle for your mount, (and there are probably standalone horse/mount call mods) and there is the Armored Sabrecat mount which summons the cat. There is probably more out there, but those are the ones I've tried.
  13. So, my most recent playthrough, I went for the vampire route on the Dawnguard quests, and being a vampire is great and all, but it's annoying that every time you go up or down in rank, your powers, most notably vampiric drain and the charm and reanimate spells, get unfavorited and un-hotkeyed because they get replaced with a more/less powerful version. I'd like a mod that makes your favorite/hotkey of these powers stick though the ranks of vampirism. There was a similar issue with Dawn/Duskfang in Oblivion, and someone made this mod to fix the issue: http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/13165 Basically, you favorited a dummy item in your inventory rather than the sword itself, which kept getting replaced. could something similar be done with the vampire powers, even though they're spells rather than weapons?
  14. I have searched Google for an answer to this problem and have come up empty handed. I am suffering from a rather annoying crash to desktop problem, which I have narrowed down to most likely involving the dialogue of some bandits, but I don't know how to fix it. I have 2 dungeons that have quests in them, both of these dungeons I have cleared successfully in the past, with this same character. But Dawnguard brought new quests, and I got sent back to them, and suddenly I am crashing to the desktop in situations involving bandits. In one, Lost Knife Hideout, though I don't think the problem is tied to one specific dungeon, the final room has a bandit leader that I have to kill, as soon as I get maybe 10 feet into the last room, bam, crash. EVERY time I got a certain distance into the cave, it would crash, no matter if i had been detected or not, it's completely repeatable. I ended up just leaving because I couldn't figure it out right then, and it was just a radiant quest, anyway. The other quest was in Treva's Watch to find the flaming crossbow bolt schematics for Dawnguard, so i didn't want to abandon that one, but the very first group of bandits I come across in the dungeon, crash to desktop. However, i was able to get closer to these ones than the boss in the other dungeon, it didn't crash until they saw me. I was able to successfully sneak past them, and was able to finish the rest of the dungeon as per usual, and it made me realize, there must some bugged/corrupted dialogue files. I went into Steam and verified the cache, it found one bad file and replaced it, but the crash to desktop with the bandits (I had a save right before both encounters) persisted. The only way I was able to get that boss was to use the console to kill him and the two bandits near him so they he couldn't get their lines out, I was then able to move around the cave freely without it crashing. does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I've tried disabling the sound, I have my speakers set to 96khz-16 bit, as mentioned I've verified my game cache in Steam. I do have a lot of mods, but these same mods were running previously when I cleared the dungeons the first time around, and I never ran into an issue with the bandits before. It only started after I got Dawnguard and Hearthfire, both of which I can't disable without losing a lot of game progress and stuff, but even so I did try, and it still kept crashing.
  15. If you need any help with textures for this, I can help with that. ( but even if not, just fyi the whites of their eyes should be black. they also have pointed ears like elves) I am not good with the Creation Kit, so I can't help with the troubles there, but I am good in Photoshop.... I have been checking back every now and then to see if the Mazken and Aureals have been added by modders and it never seems to happen... A shame because my favorite Oblivion character is Mazken, and I would love to be able to continue his journey in Skyrim (he's a Daedra, a couple hundred years is nothing)
  16. I am going to bump this. I have a Dark Seducer character in Oblivion, he's probably my absolute favorite character ever from Oblivion, and I would love to be able to continue his adventures in Skyrim. I've messed with some of the custom race mods and extended color sliders, and they're just not cutting it. I'd also like to have their racial abilities preserved (absorb health lesser power and a weakness to cold and spell absorprion for Dark Seducers, disintigrate weapon lesser power with reflect spell and a weakness to poison for Golden Saints) and that's not going to happen with just dressing up an existing race. I am considering finally learning how to use the construction kit myself if no one steps up to do this, but I admit it's a bit daunting, it would be my fist mod that wasn't just a retexture, and I'm afraid I may screw it up. But I CAN offer my services as a texturer to get the eyes right, and maybe retexture the armor and weapons (cus what fun is playing as a Mazken or Aureal if you don't have the weapons and armor, right?) from Oblivion to bring it up to the same sorts of resolutions that are expected for Skyrim, I'm good with Photoshop, if nothing else. Though the armor could be a mod unto itself. For the armor, I'm picturing it coming in 2 flavors for each, one for the early game and one for the late game. For Golden Saint, make it heavy armor with the stats of steel or thereabouts being crafted with gold and maybe some steel. Then the late game version with more ornate textures and the stats of maybe somewhere between Ebony and Daedric, and decorations where you throw in some sapphires, (because the Golden Saint Officer helmets had sapphires, or was it amethysts? I'd have to check, either way) maybe using the earlier armor as a crafting ingredient, like you're upgrading it, and, I dunno, Moonstone for some rarer ore. Dark Seducer, same thing but light armor made with Chaurus Chitin, early having the stats of Leather or thereabouts, late game around Glass, and then throw in some emeralds (again, Officer helmets had green gems, I think they were supposed to be opals, but emeralds are the closest existing gem) and, I dunno, Malachite or silver to upgrade it for the late game. Would it be possible to simply import the meshes from Oblivion and tweak them? I don't have a 3D program of any kind, so i really have no idea there.
  17. Programs running in the background can sometimes cause crashes on startup, try making sure Oblivion is the ONLY program running, and see if that helps. Other than that, I dunno, it's usually mods that cause crashes on startup.
  18. They both have good and bad points, but overall i think I prefer Skyrim. As the OP said, the graphics are a given, but yeah, definitely everything looks better and i like how hand crafted the dungeons feel. Oh and after playing Skyim, the building/texture pop-in in Oblivion is HUGELY annoying :P Right now I am playing Oblivion while I wait for Dawnguard (I've got Skyrim on PC), and the first thing that jumps out at me as the biggest improvement though is the levelling system. When i started this latest character, the very first thing I did was get Oblivion XP to make it so i didn't have to worry about if I'm levelling a particular skill too much or too little during a level, and am I levelling endurance enough nice and early? bah. The levelling system in Oblivion frankly sucks, but in Skyrim I can just play and not worry. There's still some grinding, but the difference is that in Skyrim, if I'm grinding a skill, it's because I want to use that skill, It's not me standing there while a mudcrab futilely tries to kill me to level up my heavy armor, even though I am a light-armor character, so i can get another point of endurance next level up. I know some people think it got dumbed down, but I like just being able to play my character using the skills I want them to specialize in and be confident that it will all work out allright. And some of the perks are pretty cool. A lot of side-quests are also really cool. For instance, in Oblivion, when you do Meridia's quest you go to a cave and kill some random necromancers, and get a ring that has a name and enchantment that don't seem to really fit Meridia, but her quest in Skyrim is REALLY cool with a completely unique dungeon, and Dawnbreaker is a weapon that fits Meridia thematically, and looks awesome to boot. I mean, there were cool things in Oblivion too, but I think overall Skyrim beats it in terms of memorable content. Another thing I realized as i was installing mods for this new game was that I was installing a lot of mods for things that Skyrim does in vanilla. Harvest, a sleek HUD (menus still needed some tweaking in Skyrim for my tastes, but not as much as Oblivion :P), crafting, dual wielding, color coded potions, companions and now even horse combat are things that modders have added to Oblivion that I'd really miss if i didn't have.(also, they did horse combat way better than Deadly Reflex did. I started the new game to try out Horse Combat in Deadly Reflex after I heard it was being added to Skyrim, and was... underwhelmed. extremely clunky and difficult to use, and you can't use a bow? wtf? though i do realize he did the best he could with the resources available. Tried it in Skyrim and thought it was great.) And the next one is just a preference thing, but I like the environment of Skyrim, and I'll admit I am kind of biased in this regard. I am huge into vikings and Norse mythology, so Skyrim instantly plays to some of my favorite things, and I have a preference for shades of gray type stories and a more gritty setting. That being said, I miss crafting spells, I miss being able to cast a spell with weapon in hand, and I sometimes get frustrated with the limitations of enchanting. Also, I loved the Shiverig Isles to death (hence, my latest character being a Mazken rather than one of the vanilla races)
  19. Just a note to say that it was indeed ambient occlusion int he Nvidia settings, thanks! I guess it got turned on when accidentally when i went to turn on anisotropic filtering.
  20. You're missing some meshes, maybe textures as well (on characters i don't think you get the 'I'm a missing mesh!' thing). If the rest of the meshes/textures for the mod installed correctly, it is likely a conflict with this 'sexy legion' mod you mentioned, or you copied stuff to the wrong locqation in one of the mods. Is this the right mod for the armor replacer? http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/28912 I can't find this 'Sexy Legion' mod. Anyway, if it is, there is a mesh there for 'legion' armor in there. Assuming you have copied the files to the right location, which you should check first, there may be a conflict of some sort between the two mods. First, try disabling the Sexy Legion mod, see if that makes the Imperial Legion armor appear on your character. If it does, first, try switching which of these mods is first in the load order, see if that works. If not, try going to the directory the DRMA armor is installed, which ought to be data\meshes\armor\Edhidil\DRMA ARMORS SKIMPY\ and copy 'legiontop.nif' and 'legionlow.nif' into the default directory structure \data\meshes\armor\imperialwatch\F\, see if that works. If not, try to rename them to cuirass.nif and greaves.nif (and the same for textures, just replace meshes with textures, and nif with dds) It may be that the Sexy Legion mod (I couldn't find this one, so i don't know for sure what it's doing) is expecting the meshes to be in their default location, or a custom location of it's own, which you will have to track down.
  21. ah, I do have a nvidia card, I'll have to poke around in it's settings. thanks! at least now i know where to look
  22. I recently did a fresh install of Oblivion, and I've got all my mods back, now I'm ready to play again... but I have these UGLY shadows on characters faces (and elsewhere on their bodies, but it's most noticeable on the faces, especially with helmets. And yes, they were there before I started adding mods) and I want to get rid of them... I have turned off self-shadows in the settings, btw, so it's not that. I'm assuming it's in the ini file somewhere, i just don't know what setting i should be looking for. This is what the shadows look like: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/1172309635801025683/B582610B88B51687863F9F7C3FE61AC7B37F6C43/ http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/1172309635801030022/CF23966F7B28AEE24AB9CA3CBF975F656D9F90E4/ http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/1172309635801027814/43A2AB9547D135C7731134712B0D16E9691E45EE/ (you can see it under his 'collar' there) It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the light halo effect around what it's supposed to be shadowing, but as it is it's just ugly.... I didn't have this in the previous install so it either was never enabled or i disabled it but I don't remember how.
  23. I do use BOSS, it didn't do anything regarding this problem, though, because even after sorting, the dates would have still been newer than the files in the meshes/textrues directory. The problem was that the BSA's were dated 2012, because that's the date I installed it, (on Steam. It may be different for a disc install) but the files in the directory dated.... whatever, there were lots of dates, just older than that, whatever date the mod was created and packaged into a zip file. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/files.jpg Since BOSS always sets the Vanilla BSA's to load first, it was determining the dates on all the files that came after them in the load order off the 2012 date, so they all got marked 2012 as well. Archive Invalidation (since, for whatever reason, I can't get Archive Invalidation Invalidated to work) saw that the files that were supposed to be taking the place of the ones in the vanilla BSA's were older, so ignored them. But, everything's ok now, I've got a few restexture mods going with no problems since i changed the date on those files http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/1172309635801352818/59D96E83A04C6B52DA17C0F28A7E731AA0EE296D/
  24. Just a note - while I could not get Archive Invalidation Invalidated to work, I still have no idea why, I was able to get the game to work. I realized it was failing because all the mod files were older than the newly installed bsa's, so i downloaded 'SetDateFile' from here: http://no-nonsense-software.com/freeware/ and set the created and modified dates on all the vanilla BSA's to the year 2000. the textures all work now.
  25. So, my install of Oblivion was extremely bloated with old files that were no longer needed, it was glitchy and such, so i decided a fresh install was in order, and only install the mods I most liked... it's not been going well. I am TRYING to install Robert's bodies, male and female, but it keeps reverting back to vanilla textures/meshes. If I keep the mod at it's basic settings (from Nexus Mod Manager's install), they seem to work, but if i change one thing, like a face replacer, or opt for one of the alternate bodies (I want muscular instead of average) bam, back to Vanilla, even though I'm just overwriting files that the basic install put in there. I've pinned it on the archive invalidation screwing up, and yes, I tried Archive Invalidation Invalidated, but that didn't work. I got the game to recognize the male body, finally, because it added entries for it into Archive Invalidation.txt... except by that point I had Archive Invalidation Invalidated already, so it shouldn't have even been looking at it. If I rename archiveinvalidation.txt it goes back to vanilla though, so that must be it. I have checked and double checked that Archive Invalidation Invalidated is installed correctly, the oblivion.ini file has been edited, the bsa is in the data folder, I tried both the installer and manual install, with the same results. I don't know why it's not working. Right now, the female body has meshes, but the textures are all wrong, though the correct ones are all there, in the textures folder. I tried editing archiveinvalidation.txt to add them, but the game crashed. I don't understand what's wrong, I installed Robert's bodies easily on the old install, I could go from one mesh to another without a care in the world, trying all the different options... I don't understand what's different now, and I'm hoping someone here can help. I fear this is just the beginning and any mesh/texture replacer mods are going to be hit by this. I still have a backup copy of my old install saved, and I can go back to it, (I even tried importing the meshes/characters/_male/ and /textures/characters/ folders from it, since it was working fine previously, but it didn't seem to help) but then I'll be back to the same glitches as before thanks to the old and possibly corrupt files, I'd like to get the clean install working. So. either tell me how to fix this: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/560945254433580866/D2EE891A59E62BC4E960ACAA7E4B2FFC88F0A287/ (I've tried uninstalling a few mods related to the environment and LOD, but doesn't seem to help) so i can go back to my old install, or tell me how to get the archive invalidation to behave, either way. :P *edit - just tried renaming the Data folder and copying in the old one, textures worked fine. (though Darn broke badly due to missing ini's i assume) Yet, if i copy JUST the textures and meshes folder, it doesn't.
