Well, I don't think anyone can fault you there. SR3 is probably one of the best games in the past 5 years, too bad the DLC has been lacklustre so far.
-
That's really too bad, because the post on their forums did get my hopes up a bit. Ah well, thanks for the updated info! I hope the devs have a chance to change their minds, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

I'm not counting on it one way or another, but there is a dev comment on their boards which suggests they might release an SDK at some point. Like I said, I'm not getting my hopes up, but the devs did indicate their intention of making the game moddable. Basically, I wouldn't have bought the game if it weren't for that comment. Here's what it says for those who don't want to follow the link:

I think a mod page would still be helpful. After all, nobody knows how to make a somewhat linear 'open world' into a truly gigantic complex universe like the Nexus community.

no search in Steam mods? NMM wins again
xaliqen replied to tzeentch4740's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Exactly. Not to mention there are a number of mods where Steam checks the esp for a creation date and downloads a "newer" version automatically. This directly conflicts with Bash's lock times function and causes problems with load order. Maybe I'll try the Steam mod manager in another couple of years. Then again, when I have Nexus and Wrye Bash, why would I ever need to? -
NMM is not important at all, but a mod manager of some kind *is* important for organizing your mods and ease of upgrade/installation. Personally, I use Wrye Bash (or Wrye Flash if using Fallout 3/NV). Anyway, I suggest trying each mod manager out there and deciding for yourself which one works best.

Isn't that a bit harsh? I'd take enthusiasm where I can get it.

Many posts on this thread are horrifying. Bethsoft sold millions of copies of Skyrim but most of them are still sitting on dealers' shelves. They can't sell them because some people claim the sofware won't run on 90% of the systems in service and few of the potential customers can afford to upgrade because of the recession. Very soon Bethsoft will have to take the software back or give large rebates to the dealers. This will cost them dearly and might have serious consequences for the company. My Xbox died last year and I decided to quit with that Money Pit and purchased a small baby gaming laptop from Best Buy. I still had a gift card from there with enough left on it to purchase Skyrim but bought something else. VIRTUALLY ALL online sources indicated the software would not run on the measily HD 6320 video chip that is in my laptop. Today I watched a video on Youtube of Skyrim running fine at 1280x720 resolution on an Asus 1215b with HD 6320 video processor! Maybe the video was fake but I expect that it was not because virtually all online sources are discussing Skyrim at vertical resolutions of 1080p and up. Almost nobody is talking about the playability of Skyrim at 1280x720 or 1024x576 resolutions which should be possible with most existing graphics cards. The common theme online seems to be that no matter how good your existing equipment is you need to buy all new stuff to run Skyrim. Unless, of course, you happen to own an NVidia Tesla terraflop machine which is absolutely guaranteed to run Skyrim at 1000 fps with 1000 Megapixel resolution. They are nice machies but if you can get by with 24 fps and a less than 1 Megapixel display then you probably don't need a Tesla or any other new hardware for that matter. If you looked at when the thread started, it was a few weeks before the game came out. It turns out, the minimum requirements to run the game are lower than many of us expected. By modern standards, Skyrim is not a very demanding game when it comes to hardware. If you have older hardware, the advice on a new game should always be to wait and see how demanding it is in its requirements before buying it. Games that shouldn't be very demanding are sometimes poorly optimized, and games that are pushing the boundaries of current technology are sometimes optimized extremely well. It doesn't cost anything to play it safe, and this is what I'd advise for any new game. Now that Skyrim's out and we can all assess that it's not much more demanding than Fallout 3, it's safe to say that almost everyone should be able to play it (aside from those running Intel graphics chips and/or extremely old hardware). As a side note, an ATI HD 3200 (mentioned in the first post) is very different from an ATI HD 6320M (which you mentioned). PassMark benchmark for the 6320M gets a healthy mid-range score of 239, but the 3200 gets a decidedly lower-end score of 106. If a laptop using the 6320M can play the game well at 1280x720, it doesn't really tell us much about whether a laptop with an HD 3200 can run it.

Sigh... am I the only one who liked Oblivion more than Skyrim?
xaliqen replied to mehungry's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The guild quests are ridiculously better in Oblivion (especially Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild). That's really my main complaint about Skyrim. Though, eliminating strength/intelligence/etc is pretty ridiculous as well. -
Skyrim loving TES virgin , oblivion - to buy or not

If you count the radiant herb-fetching quests, I'm sure Skyrim has more quests in total. Without those quests, I'm not so sure (in particular, the guild quests in Oblivion seem a bit longer). Aren't Skyrim and Oblivion the same size (roughly 16 square miles) in the vanilla game? With Shivering Isles, I'm pretty sure Oblivion is larger than Skyrim. Sorry, I don't mean to nitpick. I'm sure Skyrim will have many more added quests through DLC, and it will undoubtedly be the larger game once all of the official add-ons are released. -
Skyrim won GOTY, Best RPG and Best Studio... Aw Yeah!!
xaliqen replied to manmanman's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I don't pay much attention to these awards anymore. Indie titles are almost never properly considered and, as was pointed out previously, the awards show is little more than a healthy dose of cheesy pre-scripted made-for-TV entertainment as well as an exercise in corruption and marketing pay-offs. Still, congratulations to Bethesda for this award. I'm genuinely relieved Call of Duty MW 3 didn't win. -
I agree with you for the most part, and my personal feeling is that racial inequality is one of the few circumstances where fighting for freedom may be justified (whereas I don't think outlawing one god out of nine provides nearly the same level of justification). At the same time, the people who are going to have the worst of it in any conflict are precisely the poor and the oppressed, and, at least in the real world, there's no guarantee that they'll win. That doesn't mean the cause isn't still worth fighting for, but it's too bad there aren't more in-game options based on finding a solution that doesn't put those populations in the position of suffering even greater losses.
-
It certainly raises interesting questions, such as whether it's better to live with oppression or fight for some kind of freedom. Of course, what kind of freedom and what kind of oppression you're talking about depends on who you ask, which is also an interesting twist in the story. For the dark elves living in the ghetto of Windhelm, it would be freedom from racist Stormcloak policies they'd be fighting for. For the Grey-Manes in Whiterun, they'd fight for greater respect of the poor and freedom to worship Talos. If neither of these two sides is wrong, then it's a more complex question of whether the potential benefit of freedom outweighs the tragedy of war. Of course, there's no easy answer to this no matter which world you're looking at.

You can try adding some of the threading tweaks floating around as additions to the ini file. I don't think there's really much confirmation that they do anything, though. You can generate a new ini file from this site based on your preferences (be sure to back up your old file). Pay close attention to any of the tweaks involving settings for threads. Set each of the threaded settings to use 6 threads as a conservative number to start with (one per core in your CPU). Also, thermal throttling primarily kicks in when your CPU goes over a certain temperature threshold. I'd really suggest thinking over whether that's something you want to disable. If your CPU is getting hot enough to where thermal throttling is activating, that's an issue you should probably deal with by finding a better way to cool your CPU down. As for AMD Cool'n'Quiet (which activates when the system is in idle), I'd take a look at this thread.

They're gone. Take a look in this thread for more info.

I support this in conjunction with Anterabbits (antelopes with long floppy ears and wide faces).

What peace? He's busy fighting a war in Skyrim. He's not rebuilding, he's throwing money and lives away. And with each Nord that is killed in battle or publicly executed he drives the wedge deeper between Cyrodiil and Skyrim. The best thing that can happen is for the Empire to leave Skyrim, and let both truly have peace and truly rebuild. If the empire breaks apart, peace won't last long. The Thalmor are merely waiting for an opportune moment to strike. And will Ulfric really be able to keep the jarls from splitting off into smaller kingdoms?
-
He's getting peace and a chance to rebuild. Though, there's little chance of either working what with the various rebellions. If Hammerfell and the Stormcloaks weaken the empire enough for the Thalmor to conquer Cyrodiil, who's going to have the strength to counter them if they decide to take the rest of Tamriel? The Stormcloaks? Somehow, I doubt it. Ulfric's hardly a king that would be able to unite his people after he just finished killing any Nord who stood with the empire and continues to neglect anyone who isn't a Nord in the province.
-
I don't see much evidence for Titus Mede II being a puppet. After all, he's largely responsible for the empire's victories in the Great War. On a personal note, he seemed like a decent enough man and rather level headed about the fact I was there to assassinate him.

It's probably understating it to suggest that after the CS is released we'll have more everything options. Really, if you look at what's currently available for Oblivion on Nexus, and compare it to the original game, you'll get the idea. -

Oblivion has an active mod community spanning years, has thousands of excellent mods that are still supported by their authors and is generally just an awesome game. At the current sale price, getting it shouldn't really be much of a question. Have fun! -
I took an arrow patrolling the Mojave, almost makes you wish for an adventure in a nuclear winter (aka Fallout 4).
-
And, it's not even a very good indicator for screen resolution. Indicating something is somewhere between 1280x720 and 1920x1080 isn't very useful information, far better to use exact resolution rather than a range.

Skyrim textures stretching, warping, unplayable
xaliqen replied to caelamid's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Well, to be able to fix it they first need to know about it and (most likely) replicate it on their end. Just make sure you're as detailed as possible when you e-mail Bethesda's support team.
