  1. Stenvar continues to be my favorite-- he makes a great shield, plus he's chatty. I like Kharjo for the same reason, plus he's a good archer. When I take Meeko along, I make sure to make him essential, because dead puppies are uncool. But yeah, also looking forward to the CK release.
  2. Stenvar will always be my favorite tank, but Kharjo is pretty awesome, and definitely worth taking the time to find. Not only does he seem to be able to avoid friendly fire (which is probably only coincidence), but he also has a lot to say. For me, followers who comment on the world around them add greatly to immersion. Easily one of the best followers in the game.
  3. If you can do that, I bet you can work out how to use other modeling programs-- after all, a lot of the work that goes into learning about modding is being willing to learn (the rest is being willing to make mistakes!). Might want to check out the 3D tools forum as a starting point. Welcome to modding!
  4. By the time Skyrim came out, I'd been modding Oblivion at least 75% more than playing it. I'm pretty sure that when the CK comes out, I'll be doing at least 25% modding versus playing, while I fix things-- i.e., add more dialogue to my favorite followers, give follower options to the non-followers, etc.; and then there's the other stuff that'll make it more of a 50-50 split-- like Rabbit Revenge and new followers-- that I'll collaborate on with friends.
  5. I sort of like the idea of a mad-scientist type, sending you out and about to find necessary items. A mixture of quests would be nice-- a go-find-it quest for enough metal, for instance, or gears-- and a diplomatic quest to get people to help transfer the balloon to a launching place (maybe one of the carriage drivers?), etc.
  6. . . . this is both brilliant and terrifying. Pair that with the bears-replace-spiders mod, and it's guaranteed trauma.
  7. Sarpedon - Good to know, thanks! nosisab & xlr8films - I agree about the CK-- many of us already have plans to elaborate on existing NPCs, and add on new ones. It's nice to have the scripting built in this time, though; more time will go to writing, less to troubleshooting and experimenting.
  8. lv000 - I just saw him the other night, as a matter of fact! I don't quite remember what road we were on, though. Thanks for the tip! SaintAnon - Cicero kind of gives me the creeps... but in a fun way, I guess. Sort of. And it's pretty cool that they brought back Lucien. In a dead way. Sort of. :D spets21 - Why is it that sometimes dying in-game is infuriating, and sometimes it's just hilarious? I die a lot in every game I play, though, so I may just be getting used to it. Also, share that SS? Because death by companion is even more hilarious!
  9. d3vo - I was thinking that if I play through as a monk, someone who specializes in ranged tactics would come in handy. How does Aela do with a bow? And, yes-- does she have interesting comments? abaris - Is it wrong that I find it kind of funny that my followers totally sabotage me at least once every session? But I agree-- greater depth will improve them, and I know I'm not the only one with plans for that. spets21 - Oh, man. Did you at least get a good death screenshot?
  10. When I'm running around trying to save the world and/or get rich, I like to have someone to help out-- ideally, someone with a personality (although from what I hear, marrying an NPC sort of extinguishes that?). The best way for games like Skyrim to establish that, is to give NPCs opinions and things to say. I haven't played with too many followers yet, but it seems like many of them are just sort of there. The big exception so far has been Stenvar, who seems to have something to say about almost everything. He isn't fond of mines and cold weather. He's eager to make money, but is wary of traps and cursed artifacts. Dwemer ruins make him a little paranoid. He'd rather fight bandits than draugr. I'm assuming that most of these are stock lines, attached to the VA's work, but that's fine-- at least he's saying something! Which other followers are chatty? (And, yeah, as soon as the CK comes out, I'll be adding all kinds of lines to characters for my own amusement. Even though they'll be unvoiced, it's still better than nothing, IMO.) ETA: I'm putting this in the spoiler section just in case.
  11. From the terms of service you agree to when you upload a file: Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator. The people whose mods violate that agreement are only there because they haven't been reported yet... and Skyrim violations seem to be getting flagged way faster than other games.
  12. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/269753-do-not-bump-threads/
  13. I hate to bring this back up, but there seems to be some confusion on this part-- apparently the New Vegas request forum okays bumping after a week, where (as far as I know) all the other forums say "no bumping" at all. Bumping drives me a bit nuts, so I tend to flag it on sight, I admit, but obviously I don't want to report someone mistakenly.
  14. Where did you see this? Because Dark0ne has said before, last month in fact, "Bumping is not allowed here." No exceptions noted, at least in that post.
  15. From the TOS: Absolutely no copyrighted work is to be used without permission of the original creator. This includes content from other games, from DLCs, music creators or from other file authors. The "other people" who have done this may not have been reported (and banned) yet. So I would suggest don't upload. EDIT: I'm quoting from the TOS for others to read-- I know you'd said you'd already read it.
  16. Rowan Leeves & I have already talked about something similar-- pet treats for your dog follower, in the style of Dragon Age's "Mabari Crunch".Unless my memory is completely off, Emma did a mod like this for Oblivion, allowing the PC to give gifts to people; if it's doable in Oblivion, I can't imagine it can't be done in Skyrim. It could be as basic as adding one or two lines of dialogue, conditioned to appear when you have X item in your inventory; or as complex as putting together something specific for each NPC-- soul gems for a mage, dwarven daggers for a warrior, books for the studious NPC-- and sweet rolls for everyone!
  17. Oh, okay, sorry. This sounds like an interesting idea-- dungeon crawls can be a LOT of fun, as modder David B. has proven over and over-- and it would suck to see it get shot down before it really gets started. If you haven't already, you might stop in at TES Alliance to check out their scripting tutorials. Best of luck to you!
  18. You might want to re-read the TOS-- I'm pretty sure direct ports are not allowed on TES:
  19. Yay!   It took me several tries to get to the bottom of the Hole without dying, but I finally did it; I think I finally just got lucky and landed right. Didn't get a good shot of the trip down, unfortunately.
  20. I just like dying in new and interesting ways. But yes, I figured that I could probably sort of hop my way down. I'll try & get a screenshot of the journey down next time!
  21. Will continue to play as I have time- really looking forward to seeing your work! Also, after , I jumped down the hole, just to see what might happen. I died. So! Death count == 2; fun level == high!
  22. Good call-- reloading did in fact make it go away, didn't have to disable / enable! Back to playing. :)
  23. Okay, we have a potential issue. Near the area where , I get this: http://nellspeed.finalgirl.us/th00.jpg The camp area is circled in red. http://nellspeed.finalgirl.us/th01.jpg There didn't seem to be a rider anywhere near the horse, nor did I find any other NPCs (the guy in the picture is a companion). I use Unique Landscapes, however, which very well may cause the problem. Stepping off the edge here, for the record, is an insta-death. (Of course I tried it! If I don't die at least once or twice in a session, I figure I'm not playing enough.) The earthquake effects are nicely done, and very disorienting. Given theOklahoma situation, it's actually a bit unnerving.
  24. Downloaded. Preparing to start playing in just a little bit!
  25. Never fear, you're not stuck at all! TESAlliance has a whole forum dedicated to modding-- just follow through, step by step. And don't forget, everyone has to start at the beginning! :) And don't worry about not having time; most of us who mod have jobs, families, school, and/or homes to take care of. People like you who want to learn will find the time. TESAlliance: Oblivion School, where anyone can learn to mod, if they want to take the time to do it!
