Hey guys, I actually found a solution but i wasn't sure which board was the right one to post it in. If when you are playing NV and your NPC's dialogue is pretty out of sync (but you can hear it after you pause and continue) then, Set your graphics to 'default' and go windowed mode with V-Sync. Also (this may have contributed) I removed the ffdshow codec business from my system. so now i can play with decent graphics on a pretty outdated system. (hopefully more than temporary) I think it has something to do with the processor speed, my single core is only 1.8GHz, so i wasn't even expecting to be able to run it at all, but the only thing worse than not playing it is having it and not being able to play it because your system sucks. Anyway, hopefully this helps anyone looking for a fix for this problem, and if you found a different solution, go ahead and post them! Later.

I hate to double post but i have this free program called audacity which ive had for a while, it seems to be able to not only convert ogg to wav but change the frequency which was already at 44100 but 32- to 16 and such as well as the stereo to mono thing so ill edit this post as to how that goes. brb :D And my efforts were in vain :wallbash: ive no idea what to do now

im not sure i know very little about converting sound files and their frequencys so if you could kinda simplify what you mean id be grateful

Heylow! so i decided to mod the awesomesauce game fo3 for the first time ever :D i have many 40k mods you see, and with the chainsword mod and jq40k it makes a nice little melee weapon for us to use. however ive never been happy with the ripper sounds that it uses, so i frantically searched the Internets for some samples and when i came a cross some in .ogg format i was happy, converted to .wav as i believe was required of me. all seems fine when i play the file back. i re-name the files and put them in thier respective directory (sounds\fx\wpn\ripper\idle|fire whatever) and they seemed to show in the GECK fine... but not in game... i tried using the ripper and the chainswords but nada. but what did happen is that now the weps make no noise whatsoever. so i know i did something right, but something went wrong. can someone tell me what i missed? i even chose and saved the new sounds regardless of the same name to the fallout.esm :mellow: help please?

Well yeah it runs the game sure but not without lag. its hard to fight in game, i have to attempt to snipe beforehand. but scince i have a crappy mouse thats hard. even with 100 small guns lol. but hey it runs better with more ram but i have to close every background program. even some BG processes. even sometimes explorer.exe scine that uses like 10-20,000k where as fallout can use up 800,000k + but the ram wasnt just for fo3 anyways. i needed it for photoshopping large files.

Time to resurrect this old post :thumbsup: so ive been away because until i got new ram i gave up on FO3. but i did get new ram. as it turned out i had 2 512 sticks in my pc. i was under the impression my pc came with 1 gig, either i got cheated when they added some ram by taking out what was there an replacing it with new or it came with 512 and they added 512 more. regardless i managed to get a stick of ram pushing me up to 2 gig and it barley crashes, lag yes crashes occasionally, but atm all it does ctd when too much happens suddenly, like when i got engulfed in energy weapons fire from enclave soldiers, but that was fixed by turning EVE off in FOMM. Fallout really does need more ram than 1 gig, what gets me is that it said 1gb system req on the box not minimum 1 gig. still, what has most recently happened is that after deciding not to ... ::SPOILER ALERT:: ...save the wasteland muties from the FEV that "president Eden" was about to give me (decided to F*** em up instead >:]) i loaded an earlier save game only to be greeted with "fallout 3 fails at working so we are closing it to Flip you off *laughs at my expense*" and a corrupted save. so now i have to start all over again... Anyways, turning AA and AF off and lowering the graphics doesn't work. windowed mode however does, windowed games are a godsend. so anyways thanks to everyone who has posted. and be prepared for a TL;DR. im going to post a dxdiag report and my load order for FOMM. XD i havent finished reading that post im gettin mad lag on fallout but i know why that is, thats kinda obvious. so far it seems to have crashes like so.. CTD, freeze then crashes to desktop, no error message, no problem, that was happnin before CLAM - (Crashes Like A Mother*TORUDEFORNEXUS*) where it freezes my entire computer and my cursor moves like a snail. a jumpy one at that. reboot sometimes needed GCERROR - grapics card fails hard, glitches visualy then crashes, forces me to reboot. shtuff starts disappearing :S and the master NOLOADCRASH! corrupts my save. crashes and is all around a stubborn b------d. im sure ive forgotten one. may edit post later.

yeah i have yet to find an mmorpg that i like as much as fallout. that kindof addictive. something futuristic but that is not only an rpg but an fps and simulation with a similar sort of dark/light/karma thing. fallout would fit that almost but its not futuristic enough, nor is it an mmo. anyways back on subject. sometimes when im playing games i wonder, is who im talking to really who they say they are. moreover are they really a girl --> fallout, do girls play it. i dont claim to understand my train of thought, i just claim to try to understand it.

AA is off and AF i kinda use the codecs tbh i watch movies n junk on my pc so i need them but for fallout. its worth a shot. if anything ill just re-install the codecs.. also why would they put on the box 1GB ram required? thats annoying. one of my many problems was caused because of a mod and a utility.. i have some mods and the fallout mod manager. one of the mods disables live. and it just so happens for some reason i have two versions of fallout. :blink: FOMM launches a FOSE version? no live enabled. and the normal shortcut launches the standard live enabled version.. so when i try to load a savegame from Standard FO3 with FOSE it crashes. madness i tell you. and visa versa. so that sort of fixes that problem it still Fudges up now and again. now we still have the problem of it crashing. i can deal with this however even though its a pain in the butt. so i guess im still open to suggestions to fix that. unfortunately for me i can only save for one expensive thing at a time. so im gonna get my new amplifier before a new computer. *sigh* thankyou both. again anybody else can halep meh plz?

really? because it says 1gb ram on the case and i have a bit more than that. well if im honest thats the most help help ive had on any forum. im gonna update my videocard again anyways, problem there was that all of my icons had like white pixels behind them and color gradients were all levelled, light, darker, darker still as opposed to smooth. hence why i uninstalled.

okay. this game, beyond one of the most awesome games ever. if not the best. but omfg the crashing. :wallbash: i could deal with the crashing in vats and the slow slowness due to my processor being a piece of *CENSORED* but this is ridiculous recently (yesterday) it began to crash before even loading. i load a savegame and kablam crash. im running the game in 800x600 windowed mode with medium texture qual and low low fading. even though when the game detects my hardware it says i can run high quality. ive been all over the internet trying to find a fix but short of people telling me to "get a better Processor" i found very little. windowed mode sorted out alot of my crashing problems and quite frankly i dont mind low qual gaming, im used to n64 and below lol. some of the crashing issues are to do with my proc' but this with the crashing on loading cant be. it was running fine up until yesterday, i can start new games but it dare'nt crash or ill have to start again. its like, the crash corrupt ALL of my saves. ffs. and the inevitable is here. my specs please dont be like the others and tell me to get a new Proc. people with 2.0 and 3.0 dual cores are having the same problem.
