  1. I think they know how to do it, but I'm pretty sure that copying content straight from one game to the other is illegal.
  2. We know that Uriel had already sewn his share of the wild oats, so it could be another sibling of Martin's that even Uriel did not know about. Or Martin's knowledge of things Daedric might be the result of more than mere dabbling and he could have some half-Daedric dragonspawn out there somewhere. But whatever the tale of the origin, I agree that it will be the player character.
  3. Like most of us I have some hopes, expectations and fears about TES V. I hope they aren't so obsessed with trying to make the graphics so OMG! that middle-class people will be able to run it on their computers. I expect it will have a construction set since Bethesda surely has seen the benefits of this by now. I fear it will have DRM out the wazoo. That's not a big inconvenience for some I know, but some folks just don't know how long they can afford to keep the internet. I have no doubt that it will be a great high-quality game no matter what, but the anticipation is gonna be torture for almost a year! EDIT: Oh yeah... and can I please not start the game in jail for a third time?
  4. We still have to wait almost a whole year?
  5. I'll never understand the allure people see in creating multiple accounts just to try to cause trouble, getting those accounts banned and then creating more accounts with a determination to continue to cause more trouble. For that matter, I don't understand the allure of hacking the site to begin with either. Why can't people just enjoy the games and resource sites like this one and just leave it alone for cryin' out loud? (Sorry if that's just adding more clutter to a thread that was never intended to get into all of this, but I just don't get it...)
  6. None that I'm aware of yet, but I wish there was. Some of the voices in this game don't work properly with the general greeting dialog, and it has caused many headaches for me while creating companions or trying to explain this to others who are trying to make their own companions using NCCS. If anyone makes such a thing I'd be interested as well. I think the mod we're thinking of for FO3 was included in the Children of the Wasteland mod but was not uploaded by itself anywhere. Otherwise I've had no luck tracking down the mod or its author.
  7. Top 100 The Nexus Top 100 list is a good place to satart looking for the most popular mods.
  8. How easy is it to do? I guess it depends on many things, really. I'm still learning much myself. The best advice I can give is to open up the game with the GECK, become familiar with it, then try to place something into the game, something easy like a container or a static object. You can also check out the GECK Wiki here.
  9. Ah... I figured out what I did wrong, i.e. why I was so misinformed. When I had originally looked at Awakening I had not yet created a character for Origins (I know that's bass-ackward, but I was just lookin', ya know? Making sure everything was installed properly and such...) so of course the game made me create a character and did not provide the option to import as there was nothing to import. After having played Origins for a while and having been set straight here (thanks again) I just looked and it does indeed provide the option to import a character from another module. How embarrassin'...http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/tongue.gif
  10. Ha... I stand corrected! Thanks. (Geez... how do you guys put up with us noobs?)
  11. Oh, and another thing... I don't like the fact that many (though not all) of the add-on adventures are set up as if they are part of a different game or perhaps a sequel, in other words they must be played with a new character "starting over" rather than the character I've already created in the main game. Again maybe I'm just spoiled by other games or I'm just too picky, but in a game like Oblivion for example if I install The Shivering Isles expansion I can then almost immediately take the character that I've already spent so much time leveling up and gathering equipment for (not to mention crafting her face) and take her as-is straight into the additional content. In Dragon Age Origins I'm not seeing any way to do that with Awakening, and it disappoints me. As I said earlier, I'm not trying to be a "DA basher", really I'm not. The game has plenty of good qualities that will keep me playing it. I'm just noting my observations and opinions, manifestations of my own personal preferences.
  12. Thanks Thandal and RustyBlade. You guys both already know I'm still new to this one and are always quick to answer questions from all us noobs!
  13. I've got to side with the general consensus here; no, not out of any loyalties or attempts to gain favor, but because they're right. If YOU don't take measures to protect your identity and personal information where the internet is concerned and YOU submit such information to websites and servers and such, then YOU are at fault if that information is acquired and misused by unscrupulous individuals. You can't blame the Nexus staff because you use the same e-mail address and password for PayPal that you use for video games and porn. That's not their responsibility.
  14. Does all this checking and unchecking and saving and loading really need to be done if all the DLCs were installed before the new game was started? Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I'm still in my first playthrough, had almost 50 of the official add-ons installed when I started and did no savegame wizardry to activate them. Being as such, have I cheated myself out of some additional content?
  15. Glad you're "giving it a chance." I think more than any other CRPG I've ever played, DA rewards patience and multiple playthroughs. You won't see/feel it as much the first time around, but if you expand your mental horizon a little beyond what's usual for a game, you discover that the "flexibilty" and "player control" is on a much broader scale (within the "narrative arc" structure.) You do "have a mission", and certain things do need to occur/be accomplished before you can achieve the goal(s). Along that main storyline, eventually you do get down to having only "what must be done" to move forward. There's a lot of choice about the ORDER in which you do even those required things, and the number and timing of side-quests is almost entirely up to you. But DA is very much a story-and-character-driven adventure, as opposed to a "wander-and-wonder at the world" one. (Although there is plenty of world to wander AND wonder at!) Since decisions DO have consequences in this game, many paths get closed off, but other ones open that would still be closed if you hadn't done this-or-that. So the NEXT time around, you might try something different and be totally surprised at what happens. Things you didn't even know existed might appear. People you might not have traded three words with become companions. Ferelden is a a BIG place. You can't see it all in one trip! All very good examples of why I'm still playing. It is indeed a good game, and I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm not enjoying it. I was merely making comparisons with other games in response to the original post. It's just that recently I've been accustomed to playing games that are different from this one in many regards, so it's just taking me some time to re-adjust back to this style of gameplay. For example, what bothers me perhaps the most about Dragon Age Origins is that I'm constantly looking at my character from the outside, even during dialog scenes, as opposed to looking at the world through her eyes. It makes me feel like I'm watching a movie about someone else's adventures rather than having these adventures myself. Of course I understand some of the technical aspects of why the developers had to set it up this way given the party and combat setup, and it's not totally a bad thing, it's just as I said me having to get used to it again. But overall it's been good so far and I have no intention of discarding the game before I've played through it at least once with each race, class and gender since those seem to be among the main factors predisposing how the game progresses, at least in the beginning.
  16. I'm seeing the same thing: Washington DC, U.S.A.(14371 users) Dallas, U.S.A.(6224 users) Seattle, U.S.A.(6187 users) Maidenhead, U.K.(4072 users)
  17. I'm still early in my first playthrough so maybe this topic is out of my league, but... ...I've grown accustomed to (and perhaps spoiled by) Bethesda games like Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas which are more open-ended and flexible, so one of the first things I really miss while playing Dragon Age is that I can't just wander around the countryside killing monsters until I finally decide to go do a quest. I'm not as fond of games where I feel like I'm just being dragged along by the story. One of the things that turned me against the Final Fantasy franchise starting around game number 8 or 9 was that they began feeling a lot like just watching a series of fancy cut-scenes rather than actually playing (i. e. participating in) a game. I'm not saying that I totally feel this way about DA, but I am saying that I would actually like to see more of what Elrandhir is calling "meaningless encounters". But as I said, I'm still in my first playthrough and can already tell that the storyline has plenty of options and alternate paths, so I'm still giving it a chance rather than putting it down.
  18. I agree that changing our passwords is an excellent precaution. It's easy to do, quick, and could prevent this little bugger from deleting work we'e spent months or years to complete. As for prosecuting the malefactor, I say the punishment should fit the crime. Wipe out whatever half-baked websites he's running.
  19. I've heard rumors that there is an intended MMM for Fallout New Vegas. But we have to keep in mind that all the MMM projects are a huge amount of work and they take time, so we must be patient. After all, New Vegas is still relatively new.
  20. Wow... ...nevermind anything I said.http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/whistling.gif
  21. Are you sure these aren't notification e-mails for watched topics and such? I still get a lot of those since the last couple of site upgrades because every topic I posted in got marked as watched... I just haven't taken the time to go through and "un-watch" them all. I tried changing the notifications settings in the main board settings but it didn't help.
  22. NV really hasn't changed my opinion of FO3. Speaking strictly in terms of storyline and atmosphere and disregarding gameplay mechanics and dynamics that Obsidian has done slightly differently, NV to me feels like a natural continuation of the game. It merely feels to me like watching a television series and progressing from one episode to the next. Sure, I'll go back and play FO3 again at some point, but when I do I won't be feeling like I'm returning to the better of the two games in that regard. I think they are both excellent chapters in the series, and I hope the next game will continue in the same vein.
  23. I agree. I also felt like there should have been a working steam locomotive, a good old Iron Horse. Sure, there would only be one that actually worked, and all those different factions would have to fight over it, but a train combined with your idea would provide the opportunity to stage a great train robbery. Speaking of Iron Horses... where are the horses? You can't have a proper western with everyone just walking around with no horses...
  24. Apparently you can also get it here without using a torrent: Dark Times
  25. I recommend using NCCS because the default companions are lame by comparison.
