  1. Vortex sorting isn't slow, it sorts almost instantaneously, it does take around 30-45 seconds to DEPLOY (write) the order, that's because it's using hardlinks, which LOOT doesn't do. (If you are referring to the spinning segmented circle that appears to the right of MODS and PLUGINS, that's not Sorting, that's writing/deploying) Using standalone LOOT with Vortex is redundant. Wait... For me deployment with hardlinks takes hardly a second, with 10 Gb of mods, while sorting takes forever. Just found another one of Vortex's inconsistencies. Standalone LOOT sorts instantaneously, Vortex's LOOT takes about 10 seconds. Edit: Deployment for me always takes about 0.9 seconds, regardless of the deployment method. Except with hardlink it actually works, with movement it doesn't. And it has always been about 0.9 seconds, even when my game was still playable.
  2. And after having spent time with Vortex for a few months, what used to takes minutes in NMM now takes seconds for me with Vortex. I literally have several tabs open of mods I want to install and have them all downloading concurrently and enable them, and deal with any file conflict if Vortex reports one, otherwise, I'm free to move on and continue browsing for more mods, while Vortex installs, and properly sorts my load order while I'm read another mod description and deciding to download a mod or not. I also don't have to worry about accidentally physically overwriting a mods files because I can easily experiment with load order without having to install/uninstall/reinstall overwritten files, because Vortex keeps track of them individually, so if I change the load order of two texture mods, and I find I should being having Mod B overwriting Mod A, I simply move Mod B ABOVE Mod A, and Vortex removes the proper files, and replaces them with the proper ones, without me having to move any files manually. You can't do that with NMM. I can view my mod list in Vortex, I can view Plugins in Vortex, I can assign Categories to Mods in Vortex, I can turn off AutoSort in Vortex. If you actually did spend time reading FAQS, you would've known all of the things you listed off, Vortex is capable of. My installs handled by Vortex are like so: Fallout 3 - 115 mods and growing Fallout New Vegas - 127 mods Fallout 4 - 252 mods Skyrim - 176 mods I have yet to run into any of these 'bugs and errors' people who have only half-tried Vortex seem to be running into. I'll chalk them up to user error. Also, if NMM is so 'flawless', I suggest you read the support forum for it. Pretty much the same people having the same problems with NMM they're having with Vortex, PEBCAK. Then I am happy for you, you got the empty chamber of the Roulette. I got the loaded one. And I know what Vortex is capable of, that's why I was so delighted when I found out about Vortex. Regarding the autosort: I have LOOT.exe installed and I also obviously have the Vortex's LOOT. The standalone one sorts a lot faster than the built-in one. It also shows ITMs, shows wether two plugins are incompatible, but Vortex also does that, it also shows wether there is a patch for two plugins available for download. Why is the built-in one much slower? Is that normal, or just another loaded chamber?
  3. But threatening an entire website is somehow "OK"? People complained about NMM the same way they're complaining about Vortex now. These people are always going to complain because they hate change. PERIOD. They don't hate change. It's just Vortex may be flawlessly designed to manage mods and sometime in the future we will all use it. But as of today, Vortex is extrememly inconsistent with its bugs and errors. Some people who just click everything that lights up have flawless mod management and not a single little error, some (including me) have read the FAQs, know what every button does, but still struggle with Vortex. Earlier this day Vortex broke Skyrim for the 4th time since it was installed in September. It seems like there is no pattern in who gets the bugs and errors, no common factor shared by these unfortunate fellows. It's as though the bugs are COMPLETELY random. I have been getting problems because my deployment method magically changes by itself, and the fact that Movement method is so experimental that it doesn't work at all. It just breaks the game when you deploy using this method. At least Vortex has this fancy new gui, right? NMM on the other hand has the basic feature of not breaking every other deployment. It is very easy to view your mod list, sort and assign categories, view plugins and mAnUaLly change the load order. Like, using your preference and arrow keys, not the extrememly slow autosort that is supposed to be LOOT. Every time I broke my game with NMM, I found out in the end that it was my fault. Vortex just breaks your setup by itself. NMM is just a tool that does its job flawlessly. Vortex is trying to take matters in its own hands, disallows ANY kind of interference (by disallows I mean asks if the interference was ok and then breaks your game regardless of the answer), and breaks everything. In its current state Vortex is completely random with its bugs and errors. It should have never been made public and available for download. It is just a Russian Roulette with fancy user interface and half the rounds loaded with game-breaking bugs. Edit: And no, I dont hate change. I was delighted when I found out about Vortex's existence. I hoped it would be at least not littered with bugs that MAY or MAY NOT occur.
  4. A minute ago I launched Vortex but forgot to set the deployment method to Hardlink because it changes to Movement everytime I launch it. I broke Skyrim again. I want this feature to be present to have at least SOME way of avoiding breaking my game if the devs won't fix this ****ing bug. The one where deployment method changes by itself. I have been using Vortex for a month and it had broken Skyrim 4 times already. Screw this MM.
  5. Dear developers, why on Earth are we, upon seeing the "external changes" window, locked into only two options: either spend 1 hour rewriting one folder with the second one, or spend 1 hour rewriting the second folder with the first one? Why isn't there an option to not do anything? To not start rewriting the Data folder or the Mods one? I'm referring to the way Vortex handles SkyrimSE, by the way. After each and every deployment, Vortex detects external changes in every mod I have. I can deploy one mod, Save changes to all the mods, deploy the next one, and then save changes again! Why can't we just leave the Data and Mods folders as they are? i'm sure it is not a bad thing.
  6. My goal is to make a clean installation of Vortex if I ever need one. As if Vortex was never on my PC in the first place. That should include deleting every trace of Vortex's existence, if I understand correctly.
  7. Does anyone know where the config files for Vortex are located? Or how can I truly make Vortex behave like a freshly installed program after reinstalling it, because after reinstallation it remembered all my user settings and installed games.
  8. Original topic: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7070601-vortex-causes-ctd-on-new-gameload-game-in-skyrim-se/ During the process of installing mods, in the middle of enabling and deploying mods one by one, as I later found out, the deployment method changed from Hardlink to Movement by itself. This caused a lot of problems. I'm just writing this in hopes of an admin reading this and telling the Vortex team to fix this very nasty bug if it is one, or at least providing an explanation as to what exactly happened or caused the deployment method to suddenly change. Oh, and also, after the events described in the original topic, Vortex shows "16 active mods" for SkyrimSE despite me having no installed mods for SkyrimSE. Even the in-game menu shows "no load order", which means there are no mods to load. Maybe this will hint towards where the bug is.
  9. Well first of all I'd like to remind that the deployment method changed by itself mid-modding, which probably screwed smth up. And to start the sorting I do everything usual - External changes window pops up, I select Save all, press "Save". Sorting mods goes next. And never ends. If this is a very sneaky bug in Vortex then I'm ready to just redownload the mods I had (will hardly take an hour tbh) provided this will be noticed by admins. I'm just trying to fix it or at least figure out what went or is going wrong or maybe what I have done or am doing wrong.
  10. That "external changes" window is SUPPOSED to show up whenever you get ready to deploy mods after installing them, because that';s when Vortex writes them. STOP REVERTING THE CHANGES FFS, I TOLD YOU TO PICK SAVE!!!!!!!!!!! Now you're just complaining about Vortex working the wat it's supposed to. Try watching the videos, and reading the FAQ and tutorials in the HELP thread in this forum. You're trying to bull your way through using Vortex without knowing what you're doing and you're blaming Vortex for it. I thought I was being stupid and the sorting process really takes that long, and tried to just leave Vortex to itself for a while. In the morning installed all mods, deployed manually and left Vortex to its sorting process after selecting Save instead of Revert. Went to uni. When I came back home (9 hours later), Vortex was STILL sorting. Is this really ok? At this point i'm ready to just redownload all 7 (actually 10) Gb of mods I had.
  11. Install path and Mods path are on the same hdd as Skyrim and are not the same directory. I set them once when I installed Vortex and never changed them, the problem cannot be with directories. As I said, the problem comes down to the deployment method magically switching to Movement from Hardlink by itself. I didn't manually switch it.
  12. Reinstalled SkyrimSE. Reinstalled Vortex. Uninstalled every mod and tried installing it again, on a clean SkyrimSE. Doesn't help, I still get the "external changes" window EVERY time I deploy mod, regardless of wether I choose "Save" or "Revert". And every mod I had installed prior to the new deployment is listed in that window.
  13. You really hosed your setup by stopping Vortex while it was sorting, you also hosed your setup by Reverting everything. You should always pick SAVE As I said, the sorting process was endless when I picked "save". Or was it supposed to run for at least 30 minutes? I did have 7 Gb if mods.
  14. I will try to explain everything in chronological order. First of all, I will say that I am convinced this is Vortex's fault. There was literally only Vortex and a browser running at the time of the events. Okay, so this is what happened: 1. I opened Vortex and Nexusmods. Installed a few mods for Skyrim Special Edition. Tested them in-game. No issues. Everything as usual. 2. I quicksaved and used "qqq" to exit Skyrim. Everything as usual. 3. I opened Vortex and Nexusmods. No issues. Everything as usual. 4. I installed a bunch of retexture mods from Nexus using Vortex. Installed them one by one. Everything as usual. 5. When deployment started, a window popped up in Vortex. The "external changes" one. I've seen that window before, never had issues with it. Except this time EVERY SINGLE MOD I had installed was listed in that window. 6. I chose "save changes" for every mod and clicked "Save". Vortex started "sorting mods". It never finished sorting, I had to terminate Vortex in task manager because it seemed like it was never going to end, despite the active RAM and disk usage at all times. 6.1 Sidenote: I have about 7 Gb of mods, and the disk usage was averaging at 20 Mb/sec. 7 Gb divided by 20 Mb/sec is about 5 minutes. The "sorting mods" process had been going for 30 minutes when I terminated it. 7. I restarted Vortex a few times, steps 5 and 6 repeated themselves everytime. 8. Eventually went to Vortex settings to find out that the deployment method was somehow changed from Hardlink to Movement. I didn't change it at any point beforehand. 8.1 Sidenote: I never had luck with Movement method, it never seemed to work on my system, so I stuck with Hardlink. 9. After changing it back to Hardlink I tried deplying mods, the dreaded "external changes" window popped up again. This time I chose "revert changes" for all mods. The "sorting mods" process was completed instantaneously. 10. Went back to Skyrim, clicked "Continue", crash to desktop. Figured my savefile got screwed up, so next time I selected "New game". Ctd. So the issue isn't with my existing save. 11. I tried switching to movement, deploying and purging, and switching back to hardlink, nothing helped. I still get ctd everytime I have mods enabled. After I purge mods with hardlink method, I get no ctd and obviously no mods. Manually disabling every plugin to see what's causing the problem revealed that every single plugin managed by Vortex (e.g. Bashed Patch isn't managed by Vortex) was causing ctd. I'm afraid i'll have to uninstall all 130 mods and install them again, but I am not sure that will help. In conclusion, my deployment method was magically switched to Movement from Hardlink and that's where the trouble began. If anyone has had similar experiences with Vortex or wants to know something, feel free to comment.
