  1. It's got to be something I'm simply missing, but how the hell do you turn off the water in GECK so that you can easily work with "underwater" terrain? I have punched in a good many google searches and "nada"... thoughts, solutions and/or name-calling? - MGE
  2. Oh jeez... where are my manners? ALSO: POCO BUENO textures (install NMC first if you like the overwrite as you will.) : http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=42028 VURT'S WASTELAND FLORA OVERHAUL : http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39856 NEW VEGAS CONFIGATOR (must have) : http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40442 - MGE/MyGoodEye/David
  3. Well, since you asked, if you don't mind a little more shameless self promotion: THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR and the mods it integrates: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43002 IMAGINATOR for tweaking colors, brightness, darkness, light "emittance", etc, etc, etc... DYNAVISION2 for some lovely auto-focus depth of field. CINEMATECH for some delightful grains. Try a low setting and you may find that it makes the game feel more "filmic" without being overbearing. Nice thing about DIRECTOR'S CHAIR is that you can simply disable the mods you don't want to use IN-GAME and you can switch through all the settings in real-time... it's amazing... not sure why it didn't take off, to be honest with you. ENHANCED SHADERS LITE is awesome for a little "new-gen" blurring/blooming Of course, I also recommend WARZONES : MISANTHROPY PURE, but that's mostly 'cause I made it and I like killing things in-game ;) I second most of the above. - MGE/MyGoodEye/David
  4. Regarding GRAPHICS mods and the like... something I wrote in another thread seems reasonable enough to copy/paste here: Potentially self-serving answers below since I wrote/worked on many of them, but still: IMAGINATOR : Let's you control nearly all visual aspects of the game. Brightness/Contrast/Color/Tint/Light Output/etc... nearly limitless possibilities. DYNAVISION2 : Adds in-game depth of field CINEMATECH : Adds film grain/grits. Doesn't have to be overpowering and adds a nice touch. DIRECTORS CHAIR : Controls all of the above within MOD CONFIGURATION MENU (awesome). FNV ENHANCED SHADERS LITE : Adds nice post-processing typically found in DX10/11 games. NEW VEGAS CONFIGATOR : Must have. Turn on threading for most things, then fiddle with the settings to your heart's content. Other things: NVSE (of course) 4GB ENABLER and/or ENABLE LARGE ADDRESS AWARE on the EXE. Turn on AMBIENT OCCLUSION in your NVIDIA settings (if you have NVIDIA that is). Use NVIDIA INSPECTOR if you can't find 'em. Google it. Also turn on TRIPLE BUFFERING... helps with stuttering. Look for GOPHER'S MODDING TUTORIALS on the NEXUS. He has one on VISUAL MODS and STABILITY. Good stuff. And probably can't hurt to find the FALLOUT NEW VEGAS TWEAK GUIDE.
  5. Maybe no issue, but I'm willing to bet you're not 'seeing' whichever mod is first. All of the mod authors (Hattix, Yossarian, MrDeathKill) will tell you the same thing (in fact they have a zillion times). Basically pick the one that you like the best and use it... There are 4 versions of NEVADA SKIES (NSKIES 063 (outdated), NSKIES 071, NSKIES-URWLIFIED and NSKIES VANILLA), there's one version of FELLOUT and there's also PROJECT REALITY MKII. None of the weather mods will work as planned with any of the others. So, you're not really combining NSKIES weather with FELLOUT coloring despite what you may believe to the contrary... If you want to make image alterations from the base-mod (beyond just adjusting the GAMMA in the game menu), then by all means use IMAGINATOR to tweak a variety of image enhancements. - David
  6. It's probably not a case of any one mod causing the problem... Although these aren't going to make your game lag, kill them off (as the author I know of what i speak). You've basically added two mods that change the same value, so pick one. And the DARKER NIGHTS won't do much for PROJECT REALITY (your weather mod), so may as well remove it also. Also kill this. With all due respect to the author, ELECTRO-CITY adds lights to the Mormon Fort, so you're probably just doubling up: As to lag, you also may experience lag from a zillion things, high resolution textures, poorly/optimistically configured game, conflicting mods, etc, etc, etc... Go here: http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/new-vegas-tweak-guide Also search for GOPHER'S TUTORIAL on STABILITY. Very helpful info in there.
  7. HAHA... yeah, man, it'll be a whole new experience, but bear in mind that the game isn't really optimized to run with the latest tech... it's an older game engine. On your system, newer games will run butter-smooth 60FPS with all the bells and whistles, but FNV may still choke from time to time. You'll also want to go here: http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/new-vegas-tweak-guide The nice thing about it, is that it can help dispel the MYTH that you MUST run the game on ULTRA for best results. It'll also help you make informed decisions about what settings to use in CONFIGATOR. Enjoy! -David
  8. All due respect to FELLOUT, but if you only want to disable the orange-tint, then grab IMAGINATOR and make the game whatever color you want. Also, both versions of NSKIES (not Vanilla version) do away with the orange tint. Trying to get them to work with FELLOUT is not going to work as planned. - David
  9. Congrats on the new system! Potentially self-serving answers below... IMAGINATOR : Let's you control nearly all visual aspects of the game. Look for GOPHER'S MODDING TUTORIALS on the NEXUS. He has one on VISUAL MODS and STABILITY. Good stuff. All due respect to AGOON12 but: Don't bother with DETAILED NORMALS if you're using either/both POCO BUENO and NMC's TEXTURE PACK. (both are highly recommended... install NMC first, then install POCO BUENO to 'override' the duplicated textures. NMC covers far more of the game, but in some cases, the POCO textures are a tad more detailed. I personally prefer NEVADA SKIES - URWLIFED to FELLOUT. Does the same thing but better (my opinion) and with far more detail. Don't use FELLOUT WITH NEVADA SKIES... won't work. With IMAGINATOR you can very easily tweak the tints, etc...
  10. Heya. There is no "random NPC generator" sadly. You have to make your BASE NPCS (say, 20 of them). Then make a LEVELED CHARACTER that is a list of those NPCs. Then an NPC that uses the LEVELED CHARACTER as an ACTOR BASE. In that way you will get the appearance of randomness. In GECK, search for VSPAWN and reverse engineer from there. - David
  11. Watch (or read) this: http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43426 -David
  12. I've personally never experienced that, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. ESHADERS is a total-screen-overlay (for lack of a term that isn't 'shader') so that fact and coupled with who knows how your video card is handling things could certainly cause what you're seeing. Both versions of ESHADERS, by the way, can be toggled easily by hitting SHIFT+F12. So if you get that white box, maybe toggle it off and there you go. - David
  13. Wow, yeah... not to jump in defending my glorious mod, but let's jump in anyway: Yeah, no, that's just wrong... haha. Fellout should do very little to your performance. ECITY does - maybe - impact it a bit on lower-end machines, but not really. It'll certainly overwrite the previous files if they are the same. The trick here (in the case of multiple texture mods, for instance) is to install the one you want to be dominant last. For instance, if you like NMC overall, but would like the OJO textures to show, then install NMC and allow OJO to overwrite. Use Enhanced Shaders LITE and then combine with DIRECTOR'S CHAIR. The mods that DIRECTOR'S CHAIR REQUIRE all have very, very low performance impacts. Also, within DIRECTOR'S CHAIR, you can easily disable things like DOF if you prefer not to use it. DIRECTOR'S CHAIR is very easy to use. There's even a video that GOPHER made to explain how to install it and the other 'visual enhancing' mods. The ESHADERS REGULAR is a HUGE hog because it's an 'overlay' and even with your system, you're going to see performace drops. Well, in point of fact, you don't actually know that. Depending on your settings and your INI setup(s), you could very well be pushing your system beyond comfortable levels. NPCs can be a HUGE drain - especially if you're not THREADING them (your system can handle it). Lower your draw distances... Read (and implement) this (and the other pages in the guide): http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_7.html Use the NEW VEGAS CONFIGURATOR and turn on threading for most VIDEO things (not AUDIO). Perhaps watch GOPHERS PERFORMANCE TUTORIAL posted on the NEXUS. - David
  14. Quick correction to SKIBBLETS' script... but because of it, I FINALLY figured out a way to do something I've been wanting to do for awhile now...

  16. Game Engine all the way. It drove me NUTS when I was making ELECTRO-CITY but I finally found that it's an "engine problem" that I was able to duplicate in Vanilla... it simply became more noticeable because I was adding more lights and darker nights but it's there nonetheless. I never found a true 'fix' for it, but it's minimized by not having too many lights in one cell and trying not to have the light-radius pass through a cell-border at the ground/terrain level. Another cheapo workaround is to drop a 'floor' model (like the runway from Nellis). Lights work fine on models. The render issue appears to only happen on terrain. (http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37908... scroll down to my GROUND RENDER RANT for my 'proof'). - David
  17. This oughta help a bit... http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Do bear in mind that this game-engine relies quite a bit on the CPU, so while you will see some increase in performance with a new GPU, you won't necessarily see a massive increase in instances where there are many NPCs (as their AI is pure CPU as I understand it). You may also be able to tweak your system to squeeze out a few more FPS with the CONFIGATOR, a program I cannot recommend enough. - David
  18. This game-engine seems to be far more interested in your CPU than your GPU. This appears to be (more or less) a function of it being a semi-older game engine and not being able to take advantage of DX10/11 and/or everything a new GPU (like the 550) can offer. It's not that the computer will get 'confused' if you have a 'better' GPU than CPU, it's just that the game itself relies more on CPU processes than on GPU processes. What you might want to look into would be 'giving the card more to do'. There's a program called NVIDIA INSPECTOR that seems to allow you to tap into the video card's 'higher functions' (there are others as well, but I like this one)... thereby (in effect) 'forcing' the GPU to take on some tasks that the game-engine can't 'force' it to do. You can't force it to take over NPC AI, but you can have it do better business on things like AA, TRANSPARENCY MULTISAMPLING and TRIPLE BUFFERING... I've also found, personally, that setting the video card to TRIPLE BUFFERING (if using VSYNC) can help. It actually slows your framerate somewhat, BUT, it appears to 'cause' a far more stable range of FPS. So, instead of wildly vacillating between 0 - 60, it stays stable at 40 (let's say). That said, if you can upgrade anything, I'd say CPU. Or, maybe mess with overclocking your existing CPU a bit. Good luck. - David
  19. No problem! It should work... for the record, you don't NEED Electro-City for IMAGINATOR to work... it's just that IMAGINATOR was "born" as an ELECTRO-CITY add-on and we just kept the name. Of course, you should use Electro-City... If you're interested in controlling your visuals, you may also be interested in CINEMATECH, DYNAVISION2 and THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR (which combines CINE/IMAG/DYNA into an awesomely easy menu)... And check out Gopher's TUTORIALS... I'm sure they'll be helpful to you. All of the above is searchable... too lazy to find links... ha... sorry. - David
  20. What does "icon of a blank page" mean? Are you using 7ZIP? There is one file : ELECTRO-CITY - IMAGINATOR.esp Also, in FOMM, it shows up as ELECTRO-CITY - IMAGINATOR (maybe you're looking for IMAGINATOR?) - David
  21. Well, the answer to your question is about the same as it is for everyone else... in short: Too many mods. Get that list down to about 50-75.
  22. Heya! Seems you fixed your problem, BUT, I figured I'd mention that you seem to be using BOTH the ESM and ESP versions of ELECTRO-CITY. Use the ESMs and remove the ESPs. No need for both and I can't imagine that it'd be good for your game-play. - David
  23. Hate to say it, but you very likely just have to get rid of at least 25 of those... it's not that a mod may do small things, but that you've got so many mods. Rumor has it that the 'new max' is about 75. One of the 'new' big problems is 'small mods', I guess. I'd suggest doing away with as many 'small mods' as you can in order to get your mod-list as low as you can... For instance... and I'll do this with "my" mods so as to not be accused of playing favorites, but get rid of ELECTRO-CITY : DARKER NIGHTS and get rid of UWRL. Instead, use NEVADA SKIES - URWLIFIED which contains a NIGHT DARKENER. Also, kill DUSTY DISTANCE (won't work with NSKIES). You probably are running up against some other conflicts as I see a mishmash of mods that all seem to do similar things... for instance, ARWEN's + XFO + MODIFIED COMBAT VALUES all deal with the same stuff. Pick one. And I'm sure if you dig around you'll find mods that your don't REALLY need. I can't make these decisions for you, 'cause everyone likes to play a different way, but do you REALLY need VERONICA to have a different robe and/or Boone to be grizzled (no disrespect to those mods) when you can get any one of 3 different - and more comprehensive - NPC mods that are currently available? Maybe yes... maybe no... haha... Some of them offer things that you could probably tweak in GECK in no time in order to make your own combo-mod. Or maybe make a mergedpatch (or whatever). Not sure if those still work with the new version of the game, but I'm throwing it out there. The other thing might simply be that you're pushing your machine a little too hard. Maybe back down your draw distances, lower your AA or ANI, reduce your resolution, etc. What's great for that is NV CONFIGATOR (spelling mistake is correct actually). Good luck! - David
  24. Aces! You can, of course, use them in-game, just put that DLL elsewhere when you're GECKing. Looking forward to whatever you're making ;) -David
  25. Would you happen to be using FNV ENHANCED SHADERS (High or Lite)? Or any other version/iteration/conversion of ENBSERIES? If so... don't. Hide/move/rename the DLL. In the past, I've found that it can have adverse effects upon the GECK render window. Past that, are you on single or multiple monitors? Not that I've seen a problem, but it may be possible that if you're on multiple monitors, GECK might 'require' the render window to be on the PRIMARY. Just spitballin' here. Good luck! David
