Unique Landscapes for the biggest and most notable "new oblivion" feel, imo. Also DarkUId Darn, and one of the many different coloring packs to go with it, from red to black to green to even wood. Akatosh mount is great if you really like mounts, and there are plenty of great retexes out there. If your computer can't hand Qarl's Texture Pack 3, you might want to look into some other texture packs that are out there. There's also a couple of mods that change the whole feel of Oblivion. One makes it look like everything is hand drawn, I can't remember the name of it right now, and another makes it look like an older european fantasy movie type style, which is kinda neat. Fearsome Magicka is a great magic mod with awesome effects and spells and everything, and it works on it's own seperate little magic system, so you don't have to worry about it interfering with other magic mods, such as midas magic. Oh, and ofcourse, open cities. Makes all the cities (with the exception of the IC) open, so no more "teleporting" to a new map when you enter a city, instead you just walk right in. If you have a high end comp, then you should spring for better open cities instead, same thing except it merges better cities which Vindekarr mentioned with open cities. And Elsweyr, Deserts of Anequina, quite possibly the best new landmass mod ever. Definitely worth looking into no matter what. These are the mods I can think of that would definitely provide a new experience. Hope it helps.

I've never lost any spells either, and I have about 100 hours of repairing my armor and weps to 125%. I'm wondering if it's some kind of mod that did it? Did you download any mods that alter the spells that you lost? I could see that triggering it.

Unfortunately, it looks like making a new skill is not possible. I don't know why, I'm just referencing this post: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/227211-things-that-cannot-be-changed/ Sorry. I think that's a cool idea, but I guess it can't be done.

Here's a link to the mod btw http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11167

Ok, I just searched google, and I came up with a bunch of different things that could be causing this, and how to fix them. Here's what I found: 1. go into your graphics settings in oblivion and disable HDR lighting. This should work, but the game looks worse without it, so here's some other fixes. 2. update your graphics card driver. this blackscreen tends to happen with nvidia 7 and 8 series graphics cards. I have 2 8800 in SLi, and in certain spots, I have the same thing happen to me as you are talking about, I've just never bothered with it 'cause it doesn't happen that often on my pc 3. look for a mod called "nvidia blackscreen fix" or something of that nature. I've seen it before. I don't know if it really works or not, but it's worth a shot. I'm probably going to try it. 4. in your graphics settings for oblivion, try putting all the sliders toward the middle. I guess some people only have the black screen happen when the sliders are all the way up or all the way down. 5. if you're overclocking at all, disable that and try it. Might help 6. One site said clean the dust off of your graphics card. This is a good idea whether or not it fixes the problem :) 7. the last option I found said to flash your BIOS. I'm and NOT recommending this. Try all the other options FIRST. If nothing else works and you feel that you absolutely have to flash your BIOS, then please, please get someone like a friend or relative who is really good with computers to do it for you and help you (I'm sorry if you yourself are good with computers, I just wanted to stress that point for anyone else who might read this and need the help). I hope one of these options does it for you. Like I said, I get the black screen problem too. It's pretty rare, but when it happens I get oh so cranky. I'll probably try the mod and see if it works, I'll let you know how it goes.

It may be something to do with your computer's hardware. What kind of system are you running? What's your graphics card? I don't know for sure if that's where the problem lies, but it could be. Let me know your system specs and we'll have a look if that's something to do with it.

Another great mod to get is Unique Landscapes. Makes exploring the world of Cyrodiil much more interesting. It's at least worth looking into!

Man, sorry. I had no idea those images would turn out so huge. My apologies. I guess I should've made them a little smaller. My bad, sorry!

I'm back baby! Here's a couple more pictures of my knight, the one who looks like I really do (well, the face at least, thought I wish I shared his physique and armor!) http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1767691-1281761279.jpg http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1767691-1281761317.jpg And here's an image of Glapo, my Argonian character http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1767691-1281761353.jpg Glapo is a relative of the Nerevarine (my Morrowind character, Gimglapo). Unlike my knight, he has no code to live by, but his heart is good and he uses his speed and strength to the benefit of those weaker and in need of help. But really I just use him to beat the garbage out of things. He's standing on his home, Battlehorn Castle, which he restored and filled with displays of armors and weapons he collected through his journey. Good times :)

Mod Load Order - What am I doing wrong?
albonaut replied to damnedifiknow's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I hate that when it turns out that one of my favorite mods is crashing the game! Did you do anything to mod the mod? It's a silly sounding question, but sometimes I'll open up a mod I downloaded in the CS and just tweak it a bit, like a weapon power or something. Usually it's ok, but sometimes I mess things up. Maybe if that's the case, try redownloading and reinstalling cute elves and deadly reflex, and see if that will work for you. Just a thought, because it is never fun to lose your favorite mod! -
You got that right. Haha, a waste of space that could be used for wii bowling! Anyways, it's all built and whatnot, I just need to install the OS and everything, which is actually my most hated part. Why can't I just build a computer and then ship it off and let someone else format it and everything?

I have two chars. I'll upload a screen of my original character when I get a chance (don't have enough time right now). But my second char is made after me, so he's really epic. I used facegen demo to get my face on him. All my friends laugh at how creepy it is to see me in game. But, I'm and honorable knight who lives for the defense of others. Foolish bandits who are a drain on society shall feel my wrath! Here's one pic of him: http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/images/1767691-1281662169.jpg That's not his normal armor or weapon, but just a fun pic. I'll get a real screenie of him is his armor when I get the time as well.

Just an afterthought. If you want to know what your computer is running for hardware and software and such, give Belarc Advisor a try. It's a great little program that works wonders for telling you what your computer is made of. And it's free! Anyhow I hope Oblivion runs good on your laptop for you!

Well, I decided to see what would happen if I attempted to give myself kudos. I figured it wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot. The website called me a loser. I laughed. I posted this just wondering if anyone else has attempted to give themselves kudos, or pull off any other obvioulsy stupid things with the forums. Share your stories, should be worth a laugh :)

I'd be willing to give this a shot. Only thing right now is my "modding" compy is undergoing some upgrades, and it might be awhile till I get it back going again. But, if I get it up and running and no one else has done it yet, I'll see what I can do! Here's hoping!

Mod Load Order - What am I doing wrong?
albonaut replied to damnedifiknow's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I was having a lot of game crashes as well. What I tried to do (after looking at load order ofcourse) is I disabled about half of my mods, to see how things were running then, and then disabled the other half, and so on, basically trying to narrow down which mod is causing me problems. Obvioulsy you have to use common sense while doing this, such as if your character is saved in Elsweyr, don't disable the Elsweyr mod (at least not while you're there). This can be kind of a dangerous process, so be sure to BACK UP your saves, as well as your Oblivion folder and anything else you can think of, that way if you accidently mess things up royally while doing this, you can just throw everything back where it was and be safe. Just be very careful, and think before you act, and if you try this, consider yourself warned that you should back up and be careful. I just don't want to get blamed if something goes wrong. So please be careful. Also too, if you really think that it's a load order issue, Wrye Bash has a function that will tell you if there are any mods that aren't in the right order. Just open Wrye Bash, go to the mods tab, and look at the little teeny icons in the bottom left. The second one from the right (at least it should be) is the mod checker. Click on that and it will pop up a box that should somewhere tell you if you have any mods that aren't in order. -
Could somebody recommend me a 2H sword?
albonaut replied to Rioichi101's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Hey no problem, just glad I could help! -
I understand your pain, it is such a pain when you go to attack one enemy, and another enemy just happens to be there blocking. But I agree with Axxaw, try your best to keep the enemy your beating up separated from the other enemies. Sometimes, if there's multiple melee enemies, you just have to force your way between them and take a few hits to the back. Thats where your heavy armor comes in. However, this is not recommended, and it's something I usually only do when I'm so frustrated at an enemy that i can take it anymore.

Could somebody recommend me a 2H sword?
albonaut replied to Rioichi101's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Ok, here's what you do. Sorry if you already know some of this, but I always find step by step instructions easier, so if a step seems obvious, it's not that I think you don't know it, I just want to be thorough. 1. Install the mod into your Oblivion Data folder using the instructions from the readme 2. Open the CS 3. Click on File -> Data 4. Place a check next to your desired mod, then make sure your mod is highlighted, and check Select Active Mod in the bottom left corner 5. When it's done loading, find your weapon in the Object Window by browsing the left panel. Most likely your weapon will be under Items -> Weapons -> (mod creatores name) For example: Using Helborne Spear Set the weapons are under Items -> Weapons -> helborne 6. Double click your weapon of choice in the right panel of the Object Window. This will bring up the edit box, after which you can change the damage rating in the box marked damage just a little bit above and to the right of the cancel button. *NOTE* If you want a guide as to what your damage rating will come out as on your character, there's an explanation of the calculations used here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Claymore#Claymores Just click on damage calculations in the white box on the right, or just scroll down a little bit. Or, what I personally do, is locate another already in-game weapon in the CS, and look at its damage rating, and make it the same as my weapon of choice. ie: A daedric claymore has a rating of 26, so if you want your blade that powerful, make its damage 26. 7. You'll probably want to make sure Ignore Normal Weapon resistance is checked as well. It most likely is, but it never hurts to look. 8. Click Ok 9. Make sure you save!!! 10. Open Oblivion Launcher and activate the mod And there you are! Your new weapon should now not only look fabulous, but be powerful as well. It will also already be placed in game wherever the mod creator has placed it, which can be found in the readme (hopefully!) This is probably way more of an explanation than you were looking for, but I figured I'd try to be as thorough as possible and answer your question! -

I don't know about your second question, but one totally awesome 2H sword you should check out is the Blackluster Claymore. It comes with the Blackluster armor mod, and you can find it for sale at A Fighting chance. Very awesome blade! -
Differences in "feel" among regions of Cyrodiil...
albonaut replied to chaospearl's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I'll throw this in there: The area around Bravil is kinda like an old, massive, destroyed fort that's been decaying in ruins and is overgrown with plants and such. (Assuming UL is installed). And Harcane grove is a very magical hidden place, with faeries and unicorns, a very magicky mushroomish fairy tale, but almost dark fairy tale type place, once again, with UL. I hope that helps some, those are the only two I can think of off the top of my mind. -
You are most welcome!

Hey Awesome. I'll be sure to check it out as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the tip!

The skulls on a stick are under World Objects -> Static -> Dungeons -> Misc -> skullonastick01.nif and 02.nif the heads on a stick are under World Objects -> Static -> Clutter -> Kvatch -> headpike.nif Hope that helps!

What Mod could you not play Oblivion without?
albonaut replied to cookies2461's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I was gonna come on here and say "what's a mod?" but then I figured that I'm new to the forums and I didn't want people to hate me and think I was trolling. Honestly, my favorite mod would have to be unique landscapes. There's a ton of mods that I do so enjoy, but my favorite part of any open ended game is exploring, and UL makes exploring way better in oblivion. The different creators of all the UL's have so many different and awesome ideas. I have yet to tire of running around outside of Bravil, or taking down the unicorn in the grove which looks that much cooler with UL. Anyways, coming in close second would be Ancient Elven Furniture for Modders. Just kidding. Not that it's a bad mod, it's really good. I was just picking something that doesn't affect the game play. That's the joke. Get it? Ha ha.. haha.... ha..... I'll shut up now. P.S. Elsweyr Anequina is my real close second.
