  1. Too, if you forget to launch Oblivion using the OBSE launcher that sakura357 talked about, a message box will pop up reminding you that you didn't use the OBSE launcher, and that your OBSE based mods aren't going to work for you.
  2. Right off the bat I'm going to say you'll need Blender, for moddelling the hair, some kind of texturing program, like photoshop, or more likely Gimp, because it's free, and then you'll need nif tools, in order to export .nif files from Blender, and you'll need Nifskope for the final touches. These are just the programs you'll need (I'm pretty sure). I can't help you with making the hair, because I'm terrible at hair meshes, but at least I could give you a list of programs :)
  3. Ok, here's my problem. I have 2 nvidia 8800GT's in SLi. I am a huge target for the lovely black screen problem. So I downloaded the Black Screen Fix. It works, but it conflicts. I also have fearsome magicka, which I love, but it requires the mod Screen Effects. When I have Screen Effects enabled, the Black Screen Fix does nothing for me no matter where it is in the load order. Everything is perfect for that first second, until Screen Effects kicks in, and suddenly I get the black screen of death (actually it's more gray for me). But if I disable Screen Effects, everything is hunky dorey. I'm guessing they conflict. The Black Screen Fix works as follows, and I quote straight from the author: What this mod does is set the Fog Near to 0.0001 (doesn't make is look any different at all) in any interior cell that has 0 for Near, Far and Clip Dist which prevents this bug from occurring. I'm guessing that Screen Effects messes with the Fog Near setting, which makes this mod not work. I'm also guessing that Screen Effects gets priority due to it's involvement with OBSE, which is why the fix wont work no matter where it is in the load order. I don't know if I'm right in this, like I said I'm guessing. For sure though they're conflicting. Like I said the fix works perfect when Screen Effects is disabled. So my question is, is there a compatibility patch out there? Or can I go into Screen Effects and mess with its Fog Near setting without harming anything? If anyone knows I'd appreciate the help because I miss Fearsome Magicka.
  4. Are you making this mod? Or are you hoping that someone else will go for it? Just curious :)
  5. I was also thinking of Jo'basha, the bookseller from Morrowind, or possibly Lord Rugdumph. I obviously have no problems giving my cats title. I still like Ma'iq though.
  6. The only thing I can think of is did you give the armor to Martin. I do believe you have to give him the armor before you can get the next quest. Also, by this point in the quest line you should also have completed The Blood of the Daedra, where you have to get a daedric artifact from one of the statues around Cyrodiil. Have you done that yet? A good thing to check too is where are you at in your quest log. Look at your active quests and see if there are any steps you accidently missed. I've done this multiple times. I couldn't figure out why the quest wasn't updating, I thought for sure I was in the right place, so I checked my quest log. Turns out I was in the right place, but I had to make some small little "detour" first in order for the quest to update, so you might want to check that as well. Hope that helps!
  7. Too, make sure you aren't changing the settings in Oblivion_default.ini, located in in the Oblivion directory. The .ini you want to change is located under user documents\my games\Oblivion and is called just Oblivion.ini. I've had trouble getting screenshots to work as well, but Fraps works perfectly, so I stand by my previous statement. Download Fraps, it works like a charm for screenshots. Here's a link: http://www.fraps.com/download.php
  8. Check your music files. Open your Oblivion directory, then open Data, then music. In there, you should have 5 folders, Battle, Dungeon, Explore, Special, and Public. In each of these folders there should be anywhere from 3 to 9 music files. If they aren't there, then there is no music for Oblivion to play. My guess is that you might have uninstalled a music mod, which took all the music files with it to the recycle bin and off your computer, leaving Oblivion with no music to play. The only way to get them back that I can think of would be to reinstall or to download a different music pack, which is a lot better idea, and there are some good one's out there. As far as what's allowed on the forums (such as bumping) read this article: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/2881-all-newbies-read-this-before-posting/ I hope that's not considered vigilanteism, if it is I'm sorry and I'll retract the post.
  9. It seems to me (and I could very well be wrong) that when you get a lot of npc's wandering around, it takes a toll on your graphics card, but also your processor. You have a good system according to your specs, but have you considered overclocking? It can be harmful to your system, but if done right, can also be very beneficial. I've overclocked a previous PC of mine and got a significant performance boost out of it. I don't know anything more you could do in Oblivion itself to boost your performance, but ocing is a physical way to attempt it without spending precious money. Another thing is if you have the nvidia control panel on your computer, a lot of times you can set different settings for different game. Boot up the control panel and see what you have set for Oblivion. Too, you could check if your image settings slider is set more towards quality or performance. Maybe try a happy medium, assuming it's more towards performance. I don't know if these will help, but it's the only thing I could think of. And I hope it makes sense. I'm pretty tired right now, working a 10 hour day after getting only 2 hours of sleep. So if this comes out as nonsense I apologize. If all else fails, simply use your character to, ahem, thin out Cyrodiil population a little :)
  10. As much as I didn't like the fact that Oblivion actually cut down on the number of skill as opposed to Morrowind, I do understand it, with the whole 3 types of character: mage warrior thief, and 7 skills per character, and all that and such, but I would still like more skills. Anyways, there's one main thing I want. Giant water monster. I don't care if they just redid Oblivion with sorta new graphics and a slightly altered questline, just give me a giant, strong, crazy looking and fun to fight water monster that actually requires more strategy than bash block and shoot. That's my dream, sigh...
  11. For Lost Spires, I don't know if your comfortable with the Construction Set, but you could just load up the Lost Spires .esp and take out the fire. Or, alternatively, when the fire shows up, do the following: 1. open the console by pressing ~ (the button just left of 1) 2. click on the fire to select it 3. type disable if you accidently disable something you didn't want to, just type in enable before you click on anything else. As far as screenshots go, just download Fraps. It's a freeware program that runs in your system tray, and you just let it run while you're playing Oblivion. Using Fraps, the default screenshot key is F10, just press that while Fraps is open and your pose is ready, and your screenshot will save to C:\Fraps\Screenshots. Easy as pie.
  12. Wow, honestly, I just let my comrades go down and then I try and pick off the enemies one by one. It's hard because NPC partners aren't completely intelligent (even if their intelligence is at 100 :) ), but there are some companion mods like CM, which I think has companions who will sneak at the same time you do. I don't play too much with a stealth character, but I can definitely understand what your talking about.
  13. What I do is just altTab to the readme's while I'm ingame. Oblivion and altTab are not friends, but I've found that if you open the console and then altTab out of Oblivion, it is far less likely to crash when going back into Oblivion, at least on my pc anyway. Brasher's idea of writing a script would be a good idea too. You can always make a .bat file and then just run it in Oblivion by opening the console and typing bat filename.bat.
  14. Haha, don't worry Kagemitsu, you're not alone. I don't even have Oblivion installed right now. Ugh, what a headache. I messed up something or other, and Oblivion wouldn't even make it to the Betheseda Logo. Tried loading it without OBSE, no luck. Try uninstalling the mods I just installed. Nothing. I used Bben's incredible guide of how to revert to vanilla Oblivion without losing all your files, and guess what, still nothing. Whatever I did, it is royally done in. So I've been spending whatever free time I've had the past few days rounding up all my mod that I use, trying to find them in omod format, and it has been such a headache. Then I have to get it all reinstalled, what fun. Well, whatever. Just so you know that you're not alone. Also, be sure to backup. I used to backup all the time, then I stopped. As soon as I stopped, look what happened. Curse you Murphy's Law!!! Oh well, hang in there and keep modding. There can never be too many modders! :)
  15. Well, it looks like Ma'iq is winning so far, but I'm awfully tempted by Battlecat. And Leeroy Jenkins, that just cracked me up. I actually was thinking about that name on my way to work this morning. @Deathwarrior - your Ma'iq impression is pretty hardcore. I like it!
  16. The readme has some good instructions on how to accomplish this. I don't want to plagiarize, so I hope it's ok that I post these instructions as long as I make absolutely clear that this is NOT from me, it's from Author Mikko "Resetgun" Puonti: Importing NPC Face ------------------ 1. Start "Oblivion Face Exchange Lite". 2. Select your save file. 3. Click "Edit Save File" 4. Select "NPC..." 5. Enter to find fields what you want. 6. Click "Find" 7. Select NPC 8. Click "Ok" 9. Click "Save". Select new save file name (don't overwrite existing save files). 10. Start Oblivion and load saved game that you just created. This should get you right through it! P.S. If it's not ok for me to post these instructions like this this, please let me know, and I'll remove the post, and I apologize.
  17. I would use these two mods: CM Partner Tifa http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22980 Oblivion Face Exchange Lite http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7808 The first one is CM Partner Tifa Lockheart. The second is Oblivion Face Exchange Lite, which is really more of a program than a mod, but still, you should be able to use it to pull the face off of CM Partner Tifa and put it on your own character, thus having Tifa as you're character. Add in this: ColourWheels Sexy Tifa Outfit http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22393 And you'll have yourself a genuine Tifa character. Hope that helps!
  18. You have no idea how much I would love to see a cape mod like that for Oblivion. Alas, no one has done it because like was said, it would take lots and lots of time. And even if you did manage to pull off everything documn said, I don't think that it's going to work quite like you're imagining it, unfortunately.
  19. As far as changing your race and such, here's what you do, just make sure you back up your save file first: 1. open the console by pressing ~, the button right to the left of 1 on your keyboard. 2. type in showracemenu (all one word) and press enter 3. fiddle with whatever you want, name, hair, race, etc. till you get what you want. 4. DO NOT press the done button. While the console is still open, press esc, save, and quit Oblivion. 5. Restart Oblivion, open your new save, and everything should be new like you set it too. As far as reducing lag, there are some mods out there you could install. Ones that come to mind right away are Oblivion Stutter Remover, Streamline, and Windom Earle's Crash Prevention System. All three are good mods to install no matter what. Here are the links respectively: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23208 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10400 http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 I hope these help for you.
  20. I would saw off my arms and legs, and... wait, then I couldn't play! Alright forget it....
  21. Heck, just admit to the crime, open the console, and type in "setcrimegold 0" without quotes while your character is selected. If these crimes that you "didn't commit" wink wink :) are giving you infamy, also type into the console "setpcinfamy 0" once again without quotes. This is what I would do. Or, if your not into using the console, just pay the gold, and if you get infamy, do the pilgrimage. If these crimes keep happening, you might want to watch more carefully what you're doing, and familiarize yourself with the laws of Cyrodiil. Or it might be a bug. If that's the case, I'm sure someone here can help you fix it!
  22. So, I've been having this issue. I'm getting a new kitty, and I wasn't sure what to name it. Then I thought, what better place to ask for naming help then among my fellow Eders Scrolls geeks on the Nexus (no offense to anyone, but we all are pretty geeky :) ). Anyways, here are some examples that are the names of my other cats, so you can get an idea of what I like: Prof. Farnsworth - from Futurama Dr. Zoidberg - also Futurama Prudence - from the Beatles song Dear Prudence Milon - from the old NES game Milon's Secret Castle Morbo - Futurama I'm getting a little tired (and out of) Futurama names, and I've just been having issues thinking of other names, almost like a writer's block. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't know yet if it's a boy or girl (my friends have the kittens and I told them I'm going to adopt one, but they aren't old enough yet, that's why), so boy and girl names are open. It's a little black kitty with a barely visible white spot on it's chest, and it already loves to hide in cubby holes and poke it's little head out like a peek-a-boo type deal. Cute little thing. If there's enough interest I'll post a pic and the final name and gender of my kitty when all is said and done. Once again, posted here because I value the opinions of my fellow Elder Scrolls fans, as well as FO3 and DA. Oh, and Kudos to you if I end up using your name suggestion!! :)
  23. I have to agree with Eiries. On top of the world is definitely the most aesthetically pleasing to look at and fun to use.
  24. No, I must not have triggered it yet. I searched google, but the only thing that I could find is something to do with Shiveing Isles. Seems there's some kind of bug with SI that after about 120 hours of gameplay with SI installed it's starts running out of reference ID's and stuff starts disappearing from your inventory. I don't know if you have SI, but it might be that bug if you do. I was going to link you to the "fix" for this bug, but instead here's a link to a UESPwiki page explaining the SI bug way better than I ever could and providing links to the "fixes": http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Shivering:Reference_Bug#Advice_.28PC.29 If you don't have SI, then this obviously isn't the problem. But if you do have SI installed, then I hope this helps for you, because I can see how that would be a horribly annoying bug.
  25. Some people consider this a cheat I guess, but I do believe there is a mod out there that makes horses (or at least player owned horses) essential, so they cannot die. Like I said, could be called a cheat, but is also nice if your sick of your horse dieing. Or could be used if you're a horse lover and don't want to see dead horses. Wow, I didn't even know horses could stumble. I've never actually used a horse in all the time I've played the game. I don't know if this will help but there is a mod that gives horses trample damage, so you can run over bandits and other NPCs or creatures while on your horse. It's a tough call though, because it also changes the controls for mounts, and I can't stand what it changes it too, but at the same time, it's oh so much fun to run over a group of four or five bandits :)
