  1. I am running several lighting and texture mods, the result being that when I use Slow Time outside, I can see...barely...sometimes not at all. I've run across several mods that change this, some quite well, but they ALL change how the Shout operates also. Either the other mods change the cooldown times, or increase the effect magnitude, etc, alongside changing the visuals. I'm now (and always) using "Ruminations on the Rotmulaag" and the "RRD- Dawnguard" update/patch for it (both by MagicFork), along with "DragonFire - Tactically Enhanced Breath Shouts" (by NRVNQZR). Hopefully some kind soul here will edit all 3 levels of Slow Time to do the following: 1. Greatly reduce or remove the blue tint (having some visual is okay) 2. Change the saturation and hue/contrast back to "fairly normal for daylight" 2. Reduce the screen blur so it's just around the edges lightly. Ideally, there will still be "some" visual effect (enough to know the Shout is active). As reference for good visuals, I really like "NewSlowTimeShoutVisual" (by ChessPirate), but that changes how the Shout works, sadly. This mod MUST NOT edit ANY other aspect of the Shout, ONLY the screen visual! If anything else is changed, Ruminations or DragonFire might not work properly (since they change how the Shouts work). This MAY need to be made as a "compatibility patch" using Ruminations on the Rotmulaag, RRD- Dawnguard, and DragonFire mods as "Master Files". If so, that's fine...I really don't care, as I use these mods in every new install anyway. I found where the variables are which need editing in the CK, but don't want to mess anything up myself and possibly accidentally break my mods or game. It's in Construction Kit> Special Effects> Imagespace Mod> TimeFreezeImod (and maybe TimeFreezeImod Intro & TimeFreezeImod Outro). Anyone willing to undertake this, it is VERY much appreciated!
  2. EDIT: YAY!!! Figured it out!! It was/is the "High Resolution Texture Pack DLC" causing the CTD issues. The instant I unticked them in my load order, I can play for hours on end w/ NO ill effects!! Now, does anybody know if it's possible to uninstall that pack, and will Steam auto-install it again in the future?
  3. Hey guys, would GREATLY appreciate any help you can give me! Problem: During the into "cart ride" into Helgen, my game CTD's. No error messages or screen lockups, just straight to the desktop. Tried installing "Alternate Start-A New Life", and that seems to help, except I cannot go anywhere NEAR Helgen. Once I get close, instant CTD. I've enabled logging as this thread suggested, and this is the entire output (not sure what's useful/ what's not...sorry for length of post!!) I have BOSS & NMM.   4. Okay, to make a long story short: I used to play Oblivion LOTS and loved all the mods. Never made any myself, but was amazed at the improvement between the PC and console versions. Flash forward a few years and now we have Skyrim. I own (and love) it on Xbox 360. Remembering my modding days of Oblivion got me thinking about all the possibilities Skyrim could offer. But then...I heard about Steam. LOTS of bad stuff about Steam.:sick: :down: To the point I decided not to even buy the PC version...which made me VERY sad/angry. So I'm wondering: How easy/difficult is it to install/use mods in Skyrim? Is Steam really as bad as it seems? Is there any way around it? Lastly, I've been "out of the modding loop" as it were, for what I consider "a long time". Back in the day with Oblivion, I needed several separate tools to manage and implement mods (BOSS, Wrye Bash, TES CS, etc.) The "new" mod management tool came out AFTER I had stopped modding, so I've no experience of what tools I'd need to mod Skyrim, or if anything else is needed in addition to the "new" program. What are the MINIMUM required downloads to be able to mod Skyrim? Links help greatly. I'm mostly interested in the tools and other "bare bones" needed to use mods. As an example: For Oblivion I would have listed Wrye Bash, OBSE, BOSS, TES CS, NifScript, Pluggy, and a few others I'm not remembering. After those were running, you could start adding mods to the game. Recap: 1. Is PC Skyrim worth buying (from the standpoint of a mod user, not creator) 2. Is Steam really that bad/is there a way around using it? 3. What tools/programs are needed to actually start adding mods?   5. You could try this: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9673 They're not Flares, actually Glowsticks...but very well done. I use them for the same purposes you described. Plus, they never "burn out", can be picked back up and re-used, and come in several cool colors. Note: Townsfolk still consider them a grenade...so you may hear some hostile remarks when you throw them in populated areas. I've never had anyone start shooting at me though (unless you hit them with it). It does 1 HP of damage on contact (so that it can be thrown...something about script requirements). Sorry if this isn't what you wanted...just trying to help.
  6. I'm fine with the sound of how the main "gear door" of a vault opens. But, when it comes time to close it...I just cannot stand that metal-on-metal screeching noise. I suppose you could say it affects me like nails on a chalkboard to others. :yucky: Sometimes I even get headaches if I visit several vaults one after the other and close all the main doors...(but maybe from playing too long?) Anyway, back on topic: What I'd like, is a replacement sound for the closing animation of all the vault "gear doors"...and this would hopefully affect any mod-added or custom-added ones as well. I don't want the closing to be silent. It should be something that still sounds...Vault-ish, and fits with the lore of them being giant 2 ton doors. Maybe just, I dunno, well-oiled 2-ton doors? :confused: Haven't found any mod that does this so far (and I've looked a lot). I'm terrible in the GECK or else I'd do this myself.   8. I have the 360 version. I try to play a sniper/assassin type character, so this is one of the first perks I took. IMO, it does make it easier to navigate the Wasteland at night. Much easier, in fact. Otherwise, @ night outside it looks almost like a "darker nights" mod was being used! Dev's absolutely took some of their ideas from the most popular Fallout 3 mods! (CRAFT, CALIBR, FWE, etc.) But yeah, I think Friend of Night is a worthwhile perk to get. The earlier, the better (if you explore/sneak a lot). Also...unrelated but helpful: You can buy a Night Vision Scope modification for the Varmint Rifle...as well as a Flash Hider and Extended Magazines. Low-ish damage gun, but a good sniping gun if you're sneaking and get the critical hit bonus! (Headshots FTW!!! :biggrin:) Do you know if it's possible to join the NCR Rangers faction? They're my kind of people! (Snipers).
  9. I'd be interested to know if this is actually true. It would seem to be a logical way to satisfy both requirements: 1. Finish the story completely without "loose ends"; and then 2. Allow gamers to keep playing afterwards; thus negating any gripes & inevitable forum rants about NV "not being open-world enough because it ENDS!!!!!1!!one!!!"   10. One thing also to consider: The Devs have said that it will "end" like Fallout 3 did before Broken Steel came out. It's part of the story I guess...no loose ends to tie off this time. E.g. Once the credits roll, that's it...you're done. Game over. :verymad: This fact is (almost) keeping me from getting the Xbox 360 version. I don't want to get the PC version because of needing Steam...and some other reasons.   11. I've been looking for the Legolas armor also...and, like you, am having no success! Perhaps nobody has made the models for them yet?<br>Though, that seems kinda unlikely considering how amazingly popular LOTR items are.   12. I have the GOTY edition of Fallout 3. EVERY time I get to the "Recon Craft Theta" map marker and get beamed up; right when you hear the alien voice say "Yip-yap"; my game does a CTD. I have everything installed properly (though not in the default location...I changed it to C:/Users/Public/Games.) I am running several mods (including one that modifies Zeta), but have no idea if one (or more) of these may be causing the crash. I've already tried manually finding conflicting mods, to no avail. It would be nice to be able to get on with Zeta so I can enjoy the mods I have for it...please give any suggestions or feedback I can use! Thanks!
