  1. I stopped playing Skyrim about when SE was released. I have just installed Skyrim SE and am nearing the end of installing the STEP mods and have a few questions before I get started. Once I have STEP installed I want to add a few more things that I used to always play with: For immersion, I used to run with Frostfall, iNeed, and Wet and Cold. Are these mods still good in SE, or have they been superseded by newer mods in this time? Should they work fine, or are there known incompatibilities with STEP? I also used to run with Immersive Patrols and Immersive World Encounters. In the same way, Amazing Follower Tweaks and Followers Can Relax were simple mods that added a lot. Are they all still good in SE? I used to play with SkyRe and PerMa, but I do recall these were hefty mods that did not play well with a lot of others. Are they still good today, or have they been superseded? Are they safe with STEP? My favourite home used to be the old Build Your Own Home mod, but it looks like it was not updated to SE. I found it a whole lot of fun, and in a useful location. Has a newer (and better?) mod 'replaced' it?I seem to recall that you used to need to use Wrye Bash to make a bashed patch when adding extra mods on top of STEP. Is that still the same process today?
  2. I got a player weaponspeedmult of 2.99. How do I confirm if I do have multiple mods stacking this (and which mods they are), as you suggest? EDIT: I have done some Googling on the subject. It seems this is not that uncommon of an issue. TTRSO and Diversity were the two stacking it in my case. Diversity has an MCM option to disable its version which resolves the conflict. Hopefully this will be useful for anyone else who comes across the issue in future!
  3. Weapon attack speed in my game is insanely fast. Two-handed weapons are faster than a dagger should be, while daggers are too fast to see. This exists for both the PC and NPCs and has existed since I started this new game. Presumably one of my mods, or a combination of mods, is causing this issue. I tried removing the combat mods (Deadly Combat and Combat Evolved) and it did not change things. I assume there must be a way to check which mod(s) change the appropriate value(s) in TES5Edit, but I have no idea what to do. Can anyone point me in the right direction to work out what is causing this? Active Mod Files:
  4. Thanks! I checked out Windsong Skyrim Character Overhaul. With STEP, I can only run male *or* female (better male bodies and vanilla female body; the WSCO works on both vanilla or both modded), but I only make one character at a time anyway so that works for me ;) It gets rid of the bits that I do not like about the vanilla elves, so it is definitely a win for me.
  5. I was just thinking about the traditional Elder Scrolls classes and what would be the most iconic for each race. Some I felt I nailed, but others I could not decide. I came up with: Altmer - Mage, for pure magical pew-pew. Bosmer - Acrobat, for a sneaky archer/thief. Breton - Sorcerer, for conjuration and a little more defence without being a full-on Battlemage. Dunmer - Nightblade, for a magical assassin feel. Imperial - Battlemage or Knight, for the front-line soldier. Orc - Barbarian, for the berserker bringing down a two-handed weapon on your head. Redguard - Scout, for the swift-moving skirmisher. I could not come up with a class for Argonian or Khajiit. I have always had trouble relating to the beast races. What do you think is the most iconic class for each race?
  6. Yes, EEO was what I used to use years ago, but it is old and unsupported. Someone started making patches for it, but they have also dropped that project and I understand EEO still conflicts with a huge number of common mods (including the unofficial skyrim patch). I took a look, but had no idea what file(s) I need to take to get just the improved normal maps (and I am not sure whether or not that could cause problems with other mods by itself). Is EEO really the only thing that 'fixes' elves? No one else has bothered picking up the torch, so to speak, and making a newer go at it?
  7. Dunmer have always been one of my favourite TES races, but they look butt-ugly in Skyrim. I used to use EEO a few years back, but it is old, unsupported and conflicts with half my mod list now. I am not looking for super-model faces, just non-ugly ones (something that fits with the looks of the human races). I use STEP for all my graphics and I believe XCE is the only graphic mod in STEP that touches faces. What should I use to 'fix' elf faces?
  8. I have been away from Skyrim for ages, so I am out of touch on the current mods. I am going to use STEP as my baseline, but I was to run with a race mod too. I do not plan on using a female body mod and use I typically use full-body armours, if they are relevant points. My first thought was Imperious, which looks like an enhanced vanilla experience. It seems like it makes the existing races a lot more interesting (I find them a bit dull in vanilla Skyrim). I also thought about using one of the custom races on the Nexus. At a glance, it seems like many or most of them are just 'pretty faces' --- a mod primarily to make a beautiful character for screenshots. I want a race that has a unique feel and playstyle more so than a pretty face (though visuals are #2 priority). Are there any custom races that would fit what I am looking for, perhaps better than Imperious would?

I hope this can help!
  10. I already have XCE and EEO installed to improve on the vanilla faces. The result is that elves look great, but humans are still kind of fugly. I would like to install a mod to address the humans too, but am having a little trouble here. Many of the options I looked at required UNP, but I prefer to use the vanilla body. I am also not looking for a super-model mod. I just want to enhance the faces without going too far. What should I install?
  11. Any mod that changes the game enough to make it challenging will require a new start. The parts that make it too easy are too fundamental. ASIS *can* go a long way, but works best with other mods. For example, if you install a mod that adds better spells, ASIS will give you casters throwing more powerful spells at you.
  12. A bit of a throw-back to Baldur's Gate 2, but I love party banter. Emma's Vilja is a perfect translation of this into TES and, IMO, is the best follower mod in both Oblivion and Skyrim. It makes for a far more entertaining character. IMO, any follower lacking this kind of interaction is a waste of time, as the game already includes plenty of boring, non-interactive followers. I am also keen on keeping to the Lore. Cerwiden is a well-designed follower, but the law-unfriendliness made me hate her. Tying the character to the world and its existing lore is more immersive, and probably a lot easier to do anyway.
  13. I just had a concept for a new character that I like the sound of, but it needs fleshing out. It involves a lot of things I do not normally do :D I was thinking of making an Orc (a race I never use) who seeks to create the ultimate weapons and armour (Smithing, Enchanting; skills I never use). He will need to go out a lot for raw materials (mining for ore, dungeon-diving to discover new enchantments to study). Will also follow rumours to discover powerful ancient artifacts to study them (eg Daedric quests, which I never do :P). The basic idea sounds a lot of fun, but is outside my comfort zone (Breton Mage / Dunmer Spellblade). I could use a little help/advice. Firstly, mods. I run SkyRe, otherwise I mostly just run STEP. Not sure if there are any additional mods that would enhance this concept, but well worth asking. Secondly, I am really, really unfamiliar with Smithing/Enchanting, especially with the rebalance they received under SkyRe. Has anyone any advice to offer on making efficient use of these? Enchanting, in particular, seems difficult to make use of at lower levels. Do you just sit on it until later, or am I mistaken? Thirdly, the character will need more than just those two skills to be able to do the exploration/questing. Since I will be making TEH ULTIMATE gear, it seems most sensible to use those powerful weapons and armour. For an Orc, Heavy Armour/Two-Handed Weapons seems the most obvious choice, but would they be the best choices for this kind of character? Are there any other skills I aught to use as support? Any other RP suggestions?
  14. Needs a `vanilla' option. Morrowind had pretty bad bodies, so Better Bodies was practically essential. Oblivion had awful bodies, so you strongly benefited from something (personally, I used one of the less-popular ones). Skyrim bodies are fine, aesthetically. Are they supermodels? No, but that is not the game I want to play either. I am not sure if vanilla bodies are good/bad for texture/armour moders to work with (perhaps body mods allow moders more flexibility?), but for my own personal I once tried a custom race that used CBBE and thought it looked plastic (like a creepy doll). I have also tried one that used UNP which looked a lot better (IMO), but still did not seem worth the fuss of using over vanilla.
