  1. @Dark0ne; I completely understand the need for ads, but there have been many, many times over the years I've used Nexus when I disable ad blockers and almost immediately get hit with javascript viruses coming through the adds. That was the main reason I disabled them and have left them off. I'll try enabling them again, but the bottom line is that if I start getting add viruses again they wont stay on. With regard to the endorsement system, I see the changes you described as a problem. It sounds like their main result will not be to cause people to endorse good mods that they use, but to just endorse for the sake of keeping their percentages up. That completely defeats the purpose of endorsements, which is supposed to be to bring good mods to the forefront. I liked it when you added the endorsement reminders long ago, but I no longer get those. If I download a mod, take a look at it and determine that it sucks, or simply doesn't fit my tastes, then I'm not going to endorse it. IMO endorsements arent a pat on the back for sharing; "jolly good, thanks for sharing even though this is crap and crashes my game". They're supposed to reflect a mod that is of quality that people like. Just because a mod gets downloaded 100k times doesn't mean that 80% of those people downloading it will like it. Also, unless your tracking unique user downloads, where the same person who downloads a mod multiple times (version releases) is only counted as 1 download, then that is severely going to skew the percentages of DL vs Endorsements. I love Nexus, always have, and it is my primary mod DL site for Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. I certainly wont be leaving because I disagree with the endorsement system, but it does, IMO, make it harder to find good mods or allow good mods to be overlooked when it's an all or nothing system. Cheers, Vaul
  2. The mods might be volunteering, but I don't believe for one second that the site owner is dishing out the kind of time and money it takes to keep these sites up without bringing in at least a little more than they cost. Call me cynical :P Don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with this site paying for itself, or even making money. However, only a small % of people will actually take the time to complain about something that bothers them, so I think it's very safe to say the number of people who are upset about this change is much more than you see actually posting about it. Many people just go elsewhere. Personally I find the video ads very annoying. It's not as bad as the add-viruses I've gotten from here, but when I get the video on every single file I download it is excessive (IMO). I have my cookies on and even enabled 3rd party cookies for each session, so I have to assume that the site is set up to force the ad every time. Time will tell whether the annoyance begins to outweigh the convenience. I have always liked this site more than any other TES/Fallout mod site I've been to, despite the ads. It really comes down to whether the revenue generated from people that continue to use the site outweighs the number who leave because of the ads. I expect that will take time to see, and only Dark0ne can look at the site stats to determine that. I can't justify the expense of membership right now due to personal reasons, but might reconsider that if my financial situation improves. There is a little voice inside my head that rebels against the idea of paying to get rid of an annoyance though Cheers, Vaul
  3. I am getting email alerts for the Vilja companion mod from TESNexus, which I asked for.... Unfortunately when the email comes (Daily post digest to cut down on the # of them) it always says its for a mod I've never even downloaded. Here is the header on yesterdays as an example: vaul, This is the digest of posts in topic "TSC Integration Project." for today. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Topic: Companion Vilja - Endorsements (Forum: Oblivion Uploaded Files) http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/172080-companion-vilja-endorsements/ ===================================== The digest line will often report that it is for other mods, such as bouncing breasts or some other adult mod, none of which I have downloaded or have tracked. So far I have only noticed this happen with this mod (notifications for Vilja) so this might be a one-off problem, but I thought I'd mention it in case it's indicative of a larger issue. Thanks, Vaul
  4. Personally I hope you pursue this as far as possible. Kid or not, it is unacceptable to purposefully break into someone's systems and do intentional harm. He deserves to have his computer taken away, and I'll bet he thinks twice about it if he has to deal with the results of his mums reaction to her internet connection being disabled. he can sit in the library to do his homework from now on :-p
  5. Just curious if anyone in the know can provide some insight on this one? Also if there is an improved way to do the same thing, without manually remembering and searching each mod author's name, that would be good to know as well. Cheers, Vaul
  6. No. Notice the dates. On 2nd screenshot the WMK is before FOMM althought it has been updated in 27th Feb! MMM (2nd march) goes before both althought WMK has been updated 15th March! PB and FWE are swapped and are first, before Wanted!. FOMM should be 2nd in the list. *snip* Wow, I definitely wasn't getting the mixed up dates like you were seeing. Dark, As the others have said it's much better now. Sorting by file update looks to be showing them in the proper order now as well. Thanks for all your hard work. Vaul
  7. Don't know if you guys are getting something different than I am, but there's nothing random about it. The last MOD that has a change to it shows up at the top, followed by the next to last... so on and so forth. The last change listed on every mod is the one used to determine what order to put them in (at least on my display). The problem as I see it, which is maybe what you're running into as well, is that the sorting is based on ANY change to these mods (image, description, etc), not just the file itself changing. And as Barleyman pointed out the sort by last File update doesn't really work at all, it just removes the non-file notices from the summary on each file, but does not then list them by last file change date. There's definitely more work needed in this section. Cheers, Vaul
  8. If the site admins want to search for old files that never get touched and remove them, they have the tools/ability to do that just as well as you do (likely better). The report function is for mods/posts that violate the site rules, and using it for anything else will just clutter the site admin's worklists with things that don't really need attention. While I agree that there is a lot of clutter that could be cleaned up, which ones to get rid of would be a very individual to the person looking at them. Also, just because something is old and hasn't gotten much action doesn't mean it isn't good. I've found a few gems that nobody seems to notice. Cheers, Vaul
  9. It is showing the last 10 mods that you are tracking which have changed. all the extra info you're seeing there is simply giving a summary of the changes which occurred for the mod listed. Basically, instead of having 1 mod fill up the entire page because it had 10 changes made in 1 day, it is only showing that mod once and summarizing the changes. This allows you to actually get a better overview instead of having to page through many changes from the same files. Personally I think it's much better this way, though maybe not perfect. Cheers, Vaul
  10. I'm curious why the member tracking was removed? Personally I found it rather useful to flag mod makers who put out content I really liked, so I could tell (more easily) when they added new files. Was it causing undue burden on the site? Thanks for all the hard work that has gone into the updates. The file tracking is certainly better than it was. Cheers, Vaul
  11. I don't know what the deal is with the ad provider used on Nexus, but they seem to be a feeding ground for trouble. I have had more ad-based browser attacks this week and both of them have originated from the ad in the attached image. Those have happened twice, and each time I get messages about Adobe 8.1 having a fault, my browser hangs, and on one of the instances the malware actually managed to cause my Anti-virus service to bomb (at which point I yanked my net connection killed my computer and went through a full viri/malware scan). I know you need ads to help fund this site, but perhaps a more reputable provider that doesn't let all this junk through is in order? I really appreciate the service that Nexus provides, but these kinds of ad-based attacks really soil the site. Cheers, Vaul Edit: in retrospect... "Virus" might not be an accurate term for the subject. My anti-virus hadn't gotten to the point of detecting a threat, but the ad is definitely trying to kick off some scripts to do things it shouldn't. Likely an attempt to load some spyware or trojan, but I guess the firewall and security updates on my machine keep it from getting that far.
  12. Oh I never expected it to be implemented right away :) I just figured if someone else thought it was a good idea then they might speak up. I guess I shouldn't be surprised though since most of the files only have a very tiny percentage of people respond compared to those who view/download. *goes back to banging his head against the monitor trying to figure out scripting nested menus in Fallout 3*
  13. So, not a single reply... am I the only person who thinks this would be a good idea?
  14. I would like to suggest an adjustement to the way the file tracking feed displays results. I made an image illustrating a basic example of what I think would be an improvement, which basically combines the Feed and Favorite Files management screens into a full overview screen. Instead of showing every single change to your tracked files in the feed, which often results in one mod with many changes flooding your list, I think it would be better to list your mods based on last changed date, but only showing one mod per line, with the default being set to show last file update (please see attachment). This would give a much better view (IMHO) of the last updates to your favorite mods. While you could select other update types (Images, Readme, etc) I would suspect that the majority of time people want to know about file updates and would rarelly look to see if someone uploaded a random image or changed the attribute. If it would help with query response time the initial results could be limited to anything changed in the last 30 days with an option to expand it further. If changing the existing tracking feed would cause too many features to change, perhaps this overview could replace the "Manage Your Tracked Files" page as it is now. Obviously there would need to be an option to sort it by mod name as well, if people wanted to just find a specific mod they knew was in the list. I don't know how in-depth the code for this would be, but I would love to see it :D Cheers, Vaul Edit: This is probably obvious, but the screenshot was modified from the existing file tracking management page, so the mods were listed in name order even though my intent was to suggest sorting by last file update.
