Corrupt shaders. Download the Official Oblivion Shaders to resolve.

Don't build your PC around a 5 year old game, build for the future. If you do that you'll have very little problems running Oblivion, fully modded, or other older games from the years past.

Help installing BOSS and BOMM
Smooth613 replied to bstm300's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I see no reason to use BOMM anymore with the later versions of BOSS that have been around for the past handful of months. You can create and manipulate your own User List to add and sort unknown mods where you like, add or override BASH tags, add comments, etc... You can also override current rules in the masterlist for existing mods. It's redundant to use BOSS and BOMM and I see no reason to need both. -
how do I safely update Wyre Bash?
Smooth613 replied to Nightwolfhunter's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
By running the latest v291 Installer. That's the simplest way to update to the latest version. -
Once you purchase a game via STEAM you can install and uninstall it as many times as you wish. You own the game, it's tied to your STEAM account. They don't charge you every time you need to reinstall a game or format your computer. That would just be plain silly and the company would have tanked years ago if that was the case. Also to move STEAM is rather simple as well. Some simply Google searching would point you in the right direction, like the STEAM support page article, Moving a STEAM Installation and Games.

Lite Brite on by default, landscape issues
Smooth613 replied to ItsTheSasquatch's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
You guys are looking too deep into this problem. There is no need to edit INIs, run in compatibility mode, or anything else of that nature. As previously mentioned, Oblivion sees the newer ATI 57xx cards and thinks they are very old and underpowered GeForce FX 5xxx cards. Therefor Oblivion will set the graphics settings to Very Low and assign a bottom end shader package. To fix this, you simply need to run the Oblivion Launcher and manually select High or Very High for your video settings. This will solve the issue and properly assign the correct shader package. What you're doing by editing the INI and turning "Lite Bright" mode off is only a band-aid, since your game is still using a low-quality, non Shader Model 3.0, Shader package. -
If you installed OBGE, which is suggested in the Deadly Reflex 6 ReadMe and required for BloodSplatter.esp to work, then you need to read the OBGE v2 ReadMe. This "issue" is covered in the documentation. If you didn't install OBGEv2 then you must have altered your Oblivion.ini, as suggested by the DR 6 ReadMe, and you need to revert those changes. You can read the Official Deadly Reflex 6 Beta Thread for more information.

Use Map Marker Overhaul in conjunction with Dynamic Map and you're good to go. Easily the best map mods available, and their created by the same author (TheNiceOne -- excellent modder btw) so no need to worry about conflicts.
-
OBGE works with all mods. OBGE uses shaders to enhance or add various effects to the game.

Another common cause of this error is having the following setting set to high,... fLightLOD2=3500.0000 Setting that over 4500, give or take a few hundred, will cause those color blobs to appear. It seems to vary somewhat for different users on what exact number causes this issue. I suppose it could be hardware related, but lowering the number will definitely rid you of the problem. There is no reason to disable HDR or Bloom to rectify this error.

Storms and Sounds v3.0 vs Weather - All Natural
Smooth613 replied to VGI's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
No. The All Natural documentation covers this. You should always read the documentation provided with the mods you download. -
There is so much wrong with that Load Order I don't know where to start. You've completely borked your installation, of multiple mods. See all those occurrences of "Missing Master" or "Delinquent Master"? Well each one indicates a problem, just as it says. Missing Master, means, well, you're missing a master file. Delinquent Master means you have an improper Load Order. i.e. You're loading the Master after the Slave. I suggest you start over, and follow the documentation for each mod ensuring that you have all necessary mods installed, and they are installed completely and properly. For starters you could fix 15 of those Delinquent Masters by simply loading Oblivion.esm first, as it must always load first. This can cause immediate crashes upon load. As for Missing Masters, such as the following... 8C Side's Sailing Ships (BloodyMess).esp ----> MISSING MASTER: A_Bloody_Mess.esm 91 TheElderCouncil.esp ----> MISSING MASTER: CyrodiilUpgradeResourcePack.esm That means you don't have those files installed, and they are required for other mods to work. This will cause crashes immediately. You claim to have ran BOSS but that LO is clearly not the work of BOSS. You either have Lock Times turned ON in Wrye Bash (should be OFF) or BOSS is not properly executing due to file limitations such as permissions problems related to UAC, part of Windows Vista/Windows 7 security. Again, my best advice is to start over from scratch. This time around you need to be patient and actually read the documentation for each and every mod to avoid these type of issues. Good luck.

Or you could just take the time to learn BAIN, Wrye Bash's installer, and then it doesn't matter when you install any mod, since you have total control over your Installation Order. BAIN shows you file overlaps and allows you to adjust your Installation Order, much like a Load Order, as needed. For example,... Oops! I forgot to install the Unofficial Patch but now I have over 300 mods installed, what to do?! No worries, simply put the Unofficial Patch at the beginning of your Installation Order and click install, you're done, and nothing from later ordered mods were overwritten. Do you want the Unofficial Patch to overwrite those 300 mods? (In reality no, but for example read on) No problem, move it to last in your Installation Order and click install, now it has overwrote all previous packages. If this same scenario happened with an OMOD installation you're basically screwed and would have to rework your entire installation, due to limitations of OBMM. BAIN truly is the best method of installation and I'll never understand why people refuse to adopt it. Take the time to learn BAIN if you want total control of your installation and the ability to add any mod at any time and not worry about unwanted overwrites, since you have options to control these overlapping files. The following links will help introduce you to BAIN. Update request on Beautifying Oblivion the Complete Guide on Steam
Smooth613 replied to VGI's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
You'll never be done modding Oblivion, it's addictive and the amount of mods are near endless. Oblivion is so much more than just the main quest, trust me you're not missing anything by beating the main quest first without ever modding Oblivion. Out of the hundreds, hell thousands, of hours of gameplay Oblivion offers the main quest is only a very small piece of the pie. You can beat the main quest in around 15 hours if you go straight through it, but that does not in anyway mean Oblivion is back on the shelf in 15 hours. I've been playing it for years and there is still new content I haven't touched, thanks to this wonderful modding community. Oh, and yes you're right the STEAM sell was ridiculously awesome, like most all of their sales. I gained around 30 games for less than one Ben Franklin. -
Arthur Natural Environments v2 9 7 vs Kibosh Natural Environments
Smooth613 replied to VGI's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Regardless of how you install All Natural, whether it be OBMM, BAIN, or Manual, it still requires the use of Wrye Bash and a Bashed Patch to function correctly. That's why the very first line on the Weather - All Natural page says... "All Natural requires Wrye Bash v287 and OBSE 0019b or greater!" The step(s) you're referring to are instructing you how to properly include All Natural within your Bashed Patch. If you are not sure how to build a Bashed Patch you need to follow the link(s) posted on the Wrye Bash page (and one of your other similar threads I replied to) and read and follow the Wrye Bash ReadMe and the Pictorial Guide. -
If by DLCFrostcragSpire.esp you actually mean DLCFrostcrag.esp then read on, if not I'm unsure what mod you're referring to. Have you downloaded any mod that replaced the Official DLC, such as Frostcrag Spire Revisited or Reborn? If so, you should uninstall that mod and replace it with the Official DLC for testing purposes. I seriously doubt the Official DLC is the cause of this issue or it would be a widespread problem, which clearly it isn't. If disabling DLCFrostcrag.esp did in fact rid you of the problem, and you never altered the Official DLC, then you likely have an underlying conflict from another mod with that specific DLC, which in itself seems odd. If disabling said ESP works for you, great, but the true problem cannot be the Official DLC.

This is nothing to worry about, it's just Oblivion being Oblivion. It's not mod related, it's nothing you've done, it just happens. Simply save your game, exit, and reload to fix the issue. Slightly more in-depth version: When havoc'd items are placed near cell borders on a slope, and then roll or slide down the slope, and cross over to another cell different from the one they originated in, it causes that cell not to load, resulting in a missing chunk of land as you described. The area you have described is one of the most common areas for this to happen along with the Alyied Ruin across from the Waterfront. This information, about how this error happens, has just recently surfaced/been discovered within the past few months and there is a "patch" in the works by what I understand. Actually there is already a patch released for a couple areas, including the bridge area heading toward Leyawin, to test this theory and so far it's proven correct. The patch fixes the errors by removing or relocating havoc'd items near cell borders of known troublesome areas. Arthmoor, the person currently in charge of the Unofficial Patches and Supplementals, is the one working on fixing this issue. If you're interested in finding more information I suggest you head over to the BethSoft Forums and read the Unofficial Patch threads.

Yes, it's possible. You'd need to create an image of your Oblivion disc and leave the image on your hard drive to later "mount" via software and you're good to go. It'll save wear and tear on your DVD/Blu-Ray drive and you'll have a backup in case you lose or damage your original disc. However, I'm not going into details on how to do this process since I'm unsure if this would be against the rules of this forum to discuss, since it's similar to some techniques used in illegal activities. Some searching around for some key words or terms I've used in the above sentences will provide you with the needed information.

Deadly Reflex 6 - Tone Down
Smooth613 replied to storminmormon's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Simply set all critical chance multipliers to 0 and you should be fine. set skycaptainssb.criticalchance to 35 ;critical chance multiplier in all critical calculations set scc.magiccriticalmult to 0.001 ;additional mult for magic criticals set scc.magicCriticalDamageThreshold to 0.5 ;0-1, percentage, how much damage the attack must cause (of current health) for the critical to be even possible set scc.arrowcriticalmult to 4 ;additional mult for marksman criticals set scc.arrowCriticalDamageThreshold to 0.2 ;0-1, percentage, how much damage the attack must cause (of current health) for the critical to be even possible Set all of the above multipliers to 0 with the exception of the two CriticalDamageThreshold lines. Set those to 1. -
deadly reflex Sword double sheathing
Smooth613 replied to IdPokeHim's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I could ask.... "But why didn't you just read the ReadMe?" Since it includes information on how to properly assign your key bindings. Also, common sense would dictate not to bind two actions to one key for just about any game or program. Anyway... I did tell the solution, "You need to properly install and configure the mod.", and I linked you to more information that will answer many many more of your upcoming questions. All bugs or other issues with Deadly Reflex 6 have been covered 10 times over by now in the thread I linked, in the opening two posts mostly. I was only trying to assist with the current issue and direct you to even more information since DR 6 is a BETA release and has other bugs or oddities that you, as a tester/user, should be aware of. Otherwise you'll just be back here tomorrow asking why you have missing meshes under certain circumstances, or why does my game crash with a runtime error when I throw any weapon with a Scabbard? Etcetera, etc... If a couple hours of reading some information on a very advanced and complex mod, that's still in BETA, is too much for someone, I suggest they uninstall Deadly Reflex 6 immediately. Then go download and install Deadly Reflex 5, since it's the more stable and simpler of the two versions. Although you'll miss out on some of the newer features such as Weapon Throwing, Kicks, and Horse Combat. Good luck. -
You can skip step #1, it's not necessary. Everything you need, regarding Python, is included in Wrye Python 03a. So it's really as simple as, yes I know hindsight is 20/20, installing two EXEs; first Wrye Python 03a followed by the Wrye Bash v291 Installer. After that create a shortcut for the Wrye Bash Launcher.pyw (located @ <Installation Path\Oblivion\Mopy>) and you're good to go. Make sure you check out the Wrye Bash ReadMe (HTML file @ Oblivion\Mopy directory) and the Wrye Bash Pictorial Guide for Newbies, also linked from the Wrye Bash TESNexus page, as these documents contain very valuable information that everyone needs to know in order to successfully, and properly, use the many features of Wrye Bash. Good luck.

Update request on Beautifying Oblivion the Complete Guide on Steam
Smooth613 replied to VGI's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Incorrect. The STEAM version of Oblivion has no limitations at all when concerning Oblivion and modding, or using any modding utilities. The only difference is OBSE requires you to use one additional .dll file which is, and has been, included in the OBSE archive forever. OBSE and STEAM actually worked together to some extent to ensure 100% compatibility. This is why you don't have to take any special steps to launch Oblivion via OBSE, just run the game from your STEAM Library and OBSE automatically hooks in. Again, 100% compatibility across all mods and modding utilities. One version has a disc, the other doesn't, that's about it. As far as any other digital version, non-STEAM, you may run into problems, specifically with OBSE. Since it would require an EXE patch (hack) to be compatible, and the OBSE team is not willing, and rightfully so, to illegally modify a games EXE. Direct2Drive would have to cooperate in order to achieve compatibility, and it's a bit late in Oblivion's lifespan to realistically request an EXE patch. My best advice, avoid any non-STEAM digital download of any game. VALVe is very mod-friendly and I've never had a problem modding any game I've got from STEAM over the years, and it's been many. Probably the reason that VALVe is so mod friendly is some of their flagship games, CounterStrike (and CS:Source) and Team Fortress Classic (which has evolved into TF2) for example, were founded and created by smaller mod communities back in the day, and are the very definition of a Total Conversion Mod. -
Momentum is the key to achieving critical kills. You'll get better the more you practice. With the above settings, from the DR 6 thread, I get plenty of criticals now, almost to the point where I'm considering decreasing the settings some. At first though I really struggled getting successful critical kills. It's all about learning the momentum system and just practice. Mix up your moves, bash, attack, attack, kick left, attack, power attack, kick/headbut, bash, etc... You'll be building momentum rapidly before you know it once you mix up your moves effectively. Once the momentum bar is 75% or greater the chance of a critical kill greatly increases.

Arthur Natural Environments v2 9 7 vs Kibosh Natural Environments
Smooth613 replied to VGI's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
First, that thread you are referring to is outdated and inaccurate in many cases. Second, you should avoid all versions of Natural Weather, a component of Natural Environments. Natural Weather is notoriously the most buggy weather mod available and at this point there is absolutely no reason to use it. Weather All Natural is the most updated and advanced weather mod to date, and for the forseeable future. I strongly recommend it. If, for whatever reason, you decide against All Natural I suggest Enhanced Weather, a very good alternative.
