  1. Has something similar happen to anyone else ? I had just finished the Shetcombe Farm quest, and when I went back to the stable at the farm Mandil was lying dead next to the fence. I had seen her at Anvil a couple of Cyrodill days before, and that surprised me, as I have only ever seen her in Imperial City. (I know Mandil well as she is one of the first NPC's I re clothed). Anyway - I replayed the quest twice (once with difficulty at 0 to speed things up), and her death did not repeat. She is still well, and at the IC Market District. I was sort of disappointed that she did not show at the farm again. I left the cave several times hoping to defend her from whatever evil that killed her on the first go. Ah well - Guess I'll have to settle for just being the "Hero of Kvatch" for a little longer. And, as the Nines would have it, I got more useful loot on the first go round.
  2. OK - You reinstalled, but left your mod zips in the game folder ? You should really have another folder separate from the game folder. This is not what is causing your problem, but it is better management, and better management leads to fewer problems. So I have to ask - how clean can all these reinstalls be if there were files left in you installation folder, and your My Docs/My Games/Oblivion - folder. Have you tried playing with Bloom lighting yet to see if the problem persists ? If you do put back the vanilla ini first. I have to stress this point because Bloom is a LOT less glary than HDR, which was still young when Oblivion came out. If you have tried Bloom and there is no change then - Did you play the game when it was Vanilla - real vanilla - no disabled esp's, and no trace of mod files in your Oblivion game folder, and a vanilla ini ? When you revert to vanilla how many mods do you add at one time without play testing ? More than two or five ? That would be too many. One more thing - some of the pale body textures are very white and glary in HDR, even with the Natural Environments Natural Weather. I don't reckon you can get rid of this all together. I hate the glare as well, but I still prefer HDR overall.
  3. Is this a new installation or reinstallation ? When you say vanilla is that after deactivating mods ? Have you tinkered with the ini already ? Are you playing with HDR ? If so try Bloom and see if that fixes it - then.... HDR in the vanilla game can cause way too much glare even washing out the white stone work, and also making bodies, and armour too shiny in bright sunlight. Natural environments tones the light down a lot, and if you find it too yellow there is a "patch" to fix that (natural environments colour override).
  4. Yes Nifscope can be very useful. Blender is much later for me. I have never touched it. (too thick) NifScope is limited however. You cannot trim anything that is in one piece. So you are out of luck with the Legion curiass. Maybe the reason the Blades curiass is not one piece is it may have been modelled by a different person.
  5. Rens Mystic Elves use the vanilla body mesh/texture and UV maping, and will not work with EXNEM/HGEC. Also - when using Roberts or EXNEM get the stock clothing and armour replacers by Sen Chen (Robert) and Grhys (Exnem) or for skimpy female replacement for Exnem Dude2000 - modified my OSMO ? for HGEC. These mods address the UV mapping issue with stock clothing and armour. Problems that show with vanilla clothes are such things as pubes around ankles and hands on shoulders with clothes/armour that expose those parts of the body.
  6. Sorry: But you have made another incorrect assumption.
  7. If Alval is home and upstairs, and is wearing an armour or clothes mod that is not working this can sometimes cause a crash when you open the door. Any other mod that affects the upstairs ?
  8. Spootknight - There is nothing hypocritical about modding and keeping it to your own circle of friends. It was people who made rash and thoughtless statements over the past several years that made Slof stop uploading her mods. She still shares with people who think rather than make judgemental statements. As for her "quitting modding completely". People are allowed to change their mind, especially when friends ask them to. The people who mod here make no money and are not required to offer service. It's for fun, and for free. If there are no other good Khajit textures it is proof positive that she is a good artist, and shows just how hard it is to make a good texture, and why many lament her moving on. Still - it is good that you are doing research, and making the best of the Nexus. There are many who want mods delivered on a silver platter, and installed automatically. Lesson learned - keep the zip file for all of your mods. Never know the Nexus may as suddenly disappear. btw: - Echis - Have you been playing Mass Effect ?
  9. A lot of favourites actually, but the I saved the best for last.... Starfox - was that SNES ? Legend of Zelda Resident Evil 1 - first game to make me jump, and give me chills. Tomb Raider 1&2 Metal Gear Solid 1 Medal of Honour - Good in it's time. MOH Pacific Assult - The Pearl Harbour and Beach Landing missions stood out. The rest not so good. COD + Expansion, COD 2 - shock and awe out did MOH. Far Cry - All time favourite, before Oblivion. Dues Ex Invisible War - The best politics up to that point. GTA Vice City Vampire Bloodlines Masquerade - The first game with "sexy" content. GTA VC was more cartoon in this regard. Half Life 2 Bioshock - more good politics Tony hawk Underground 2 - fun stuffing around Col Mc Rea 4 and Dirt R6 Vegas - getting Vegas 2 soon Oblivion - Not just a game - a life....
  10. And here I was obout to get this game. Second thoughts now. Far Cry was one of my all time favourites. Smart AI - especially for it's time. Great graphics, and a number of missions that could be played from so many different approaches. What don't I like about FC2 ? From what I've read - Re spawning enemy = tedium. Less colour. Too many recent games are sepia toned = smog. Useless stealth - that I would definitely hate. AI. - Sounds a bit like Crysis. Made by Crytek alright, but if you use a sniper rifle successfully in that game the AI, often as not, looks the other way. Their bud gets shot in the face and they turn around and look at a cliff. Having said that. once they are on to you they can be real hard to shake. (If you don't go invisible on them). I did enjoy Crysis overall though. Dodgy story lines don't bother me - if the game play is good. If you have to "Easter egg" hunt the briefcases I don't mind I like Easter egg hunts. Like pearling in Oblivion.
  11. Hmmm - You are talking about the mini map (or is it close map) I gather. I would think removing the fog would be a disadvantage. For example when I go clam diving I use the fog to know where I have searched so I don't keep covering the same area. I can understand the main map markers. A little, but then I like going for a ride in the country and being rewarded by finding something that is not yet on the map. Here too the fog on the mini map helps if I really want to find something new, or quest related. If there is no fog I often have a hard time knowing where I have been. Especially as I have had 300 hrs. on a previous game. There are a couple of locations that would be very hard to discover were it not for the "fog of war" as they call it in Co. of Heroes. EDIT: I am speaking of chest not the map markers that are already on the main map. Also I us the defogged map to remind me if I have been in a cave. Usually I log the caves I have completed, but sometimes forget.
  12. Yes I think that would be Slof's Clouded Leopard. The armour is possibly a combination which includes one of her Xiviali collars from her Goth armour collection. It may a single outfit which I have lost from my collection. Much of her earlier armour was done in collaboration with various mesh makers. She also had a very nice dark "Tabby" style Kajit texture which I use. Sharing files is apparently O.K. but not uploading. If I am incorrect then I stand corrected in advance. I can't share effectively because I am on dial up.
  13. Wow - Vagrant I don't think I've ever seen you so harsh. Good on ya -lol. Oblivion forever.... EDIT: Holly smoke. Jah Rasta. You make me glad I never even saw Ruenscape. I may have gone blind, or had me bum fall off.
  14. Throttle Kitty's Rapiers are all nice.... I like the Pappen 1
  15. I had a lot of trouble with the NVidia 180.48 drivers. Frequent crashes of all descriptions. The 178.13 weren't as smooth, but were more stable. I have just installed the 181.22 drivers. They run smoothly, and I have had only one CTD in 15 hrs - a record for my machine. (Opteron 180 - 8800 GT - 2 Gig RAM) I have found that Streamline will occasionally turn off my distant LOD and I have to reset it in the options panel. This seems to happen when riding round and round looking for new caves etc. Other than that it works well, but I don't use the auto save. EDIT: May 15 - A while (a week or 3) after the above post I found that turning the - Terrain - setting off (0) in the - Details - that Streamline no longer caused my distant land settings to turn off in the game options. Also I have read several post since my post above in which people had un installed Streamline because of the distants lands issue. Not necessary - Streamline is a good thing for those of us with less RAM, and otherwise less powerful machines. My comment on the auto save was only in relation to personal preference.
  16. I find that using the edit function to find things in the ini file will miss a lot of settings. If the edit function says no can find. Then you may still find what you are looking for the hard way - section by section, line by line.
  17. Well I guess I've trumped young bben by 3 months and a day. 62 and just getting my stride - I wish.... :bunny:
  18. Golly - Glad I read this thread (even though the general topic is all too familiar) I'm up for both shiki Armor and deadly reflexes to add to all my exotic and erotic, and scenic stuff. It all just adds to the longevity (I have 300 hrs game play on my game save counter) and replayability of this most awesome and wonderful game. What other game have I played off and on for 2 years ???? Can't think of any.... And I haven't even started on SI yet...I just might grow old with this game - lol. BTW; OBSE works. Just make sure you have the latest version, and follow the instructions to the letter.
  19. I'm with the people who would like co-op or small team LAN so my wife and I can travel together, but I am still on dial-up, plus I can't really afford monthly fees. I would also like another mod friendly game. If Bethesda want to go up against Blizzard fine, but don't forget us simple folk.
