don't worry i wont tell on you (whispers i use one too for games like AC2 and gta) but on topic 3rd party hardware and software is typically problematic within the windows environment id would suggest sending it back to where you got it and invest the extra cash on a genuine microsoft xbox 360 controller for PC the moment you plug it in windows sorts the driver for you job done and on with the game , gotta love em for that . a little insider info for you due to various hardware manufactuers not meeting their predicted sales over the last 6 months of 2011 hardware prices have dropped in a bid to shift the backlog now is the time to upgrade and buy new goodies.

being an old hand you'll know that it takes some carefull work but having said that you may well be another victim of the "terrain bug" i got that tee-shirt a while back the cause and cure still unknown ripping out its guts worked for me making me suspect its some way related to the O/S how exactly i have no idea maybe 32/64 bit have you got access to a 32bit copy of XP ? vista being 7's daddy may create same issue all you need is a spare hd and the disc could be worth a shot !

RH Ironsights mod- weapons not lining up,

now that is a dam good point BLACKRAMPAGE can't believe i missed that ! -
ut oh ,two ways to proceed open the archive then open fo3 delete manually using originall archive as reference nice and tidy way to go or.. just re install and allow for overwrites . is your .ini file tweaked to allow for extra data ? large texture packs need more memory by default as you probaly know FO3 uses a feeble amount of ram so optimization of .ini file is needed ( tweakguides .com )

anyone interseted in this mod and the arma ii game the game is free to download from steam......but the free version doesn't support mods , ultra high settings ? or single player (steams doing or the publishers who knows?). good ole google and whilst labled as an rpg it appears to be more akin to the dragon rising series of games which are actually tactical sims .

Increasing Gaming performance
davycrockett replied to SubjectProphet's topic in Hardware and software discussion
i meant the entire game , youd need a quantum core for that ! and i dont think they will be appearing on the shelves just yet maybe in another 50 years or so when people stop whining about the use of spinal fluid and stem cells . -
probably a bit late now but did you check the mobo's manufacturer's site for bios profiles ? its a far safer way to o/c a machine i know asus have a list of stable profiles obviously for asus mobos ,no more risk invovled than flashing the rom file .

davycrockett replied to rockygohard18's topic in Hardware and software discussion
Ah a bully cpu not a bad choice at all brute force and ignorance over finesse always wins the fight the case is a good pick too plenty of fan mounts . The thermal environment is often overlooked and any case which creates an up draught is good as heat rises , if the psu sits on the bottom even better .that board looks to be loaded with goodies make sure whichever drive type you opt for that they/it can match the data transfer rate 6gbs otherwise all that speed is wasted . and anything more than 8gb of ram in a gaming rig is wasted money .good luck with your new baby and take the utmost care when installing the cpu bending the pins renders that chunk of silicon and platinum useless. -
ahh a heart warming thread ..sniff snivel nice to see such good community spirit hoofhearted4 hats off to ya

Increasing Gaming performance
davycrockett replied to SubjectProphet's topic in Hardware and software discussion
or you could just increase the size of your paging file (virtual memory), but with modern systems and fast memory thats kinda pointless when you consider that the more data that gets buffered into the ram actually slows down the processing the conservative approach is always best sacrificing stability for performance rarely works . and with open world rpgs which are typically in the region of 8gb say holding all that data and accessing it in time is gonna be tricky a fast board and hds (6gbs) is a better road to wander -

heres one i nearly made earlier upped the budget in the end wallet still hurts ! 3.2ghz amd phenom ii x4 840 (new one includes cpu cooler ) yummie!! asus m4a88t-m (am3 socket) MOBO cant rember if this supports xfire though its loaded with ports and does hybrid gpu combines onboard /external 4gb corsair vengeance 1600 mhz cl9 ddr3 RAM lively ddr3 and cheaper than ddr2 go figure windows 7 home premium OS that or xp 64 bit not as shiney but has smaller footprint taxes resources less but fewer modern games (good ones) 500gb seagate barracuda 7200.12 HD the faster the rpms the better also data the above board only supports up to 3gbs but does have usb rev 3.0 Lg gh22ns50 optical drive does the job but no bells or whistles amd hd radeon 5770 GPU amd is always great bang for your buck antec one hundred CASE/STACK its a box and its black does the job ( a couple of molex chassis fans will be required ) 430w corsair cx430 PSU ,its worth investing in a branded name here as you dont want somer cheap piece of tat cooking all the precious goodies the above mobo features turbo v .....oooh its a factory addition which provides safe and stable over clocking at the click of your mouse cool huh all this retails for less than £400 youd cry if i told you the trade price oh and a static and dust free environment to build it in and id suggest if running windows use microsoft mouse and keyboard i have never had any hassle with them third party gear can sometimes be aggro Linux os is free but problematic with gaming given that most games are intended for the windows os, for a noobie id say take a look but swerve violently towards windows of one type or another (64 bit) lots of support and easier to live with if theres one thing iv learned its that pcs dont have to be expensive to be fast they need to be carefully cherrypicked then top it off with a sprinkling of good games ohh and some descent headphones too -
OCZ petrol series is the best iv encountered whatever you do avoid kingston ssd now v200 no firmware updates now or ever which means when your beloved ssd starts slowing down which it will in time you cant refresh it and take it back to its glory days ( and not to forget windows havent assessed the kingston hardware so support from them is non existent too ) the best value for money iv seen is the seagate baracuda 7200 500 gb HD (6gbs) given the minimal gain from ssd,s in gaming terms the high quality HD,s is what id suggest coupled up to the right mobo one with sata rev 3.0 sockets you'll be non the wiser . and SLIMHOUSE doesnt the RAID0 format render both drives useless when one fails through either data corruption or hardware failure, but RAID1 has a 50/50 survival chance ie one dies its twin riocks on ?

What poses a greater threat to the gaming industry?
davycrockett replied to lengelb's topic in PC Gaming
praise be brothers and sisters bet you can guess which way i voted , i try to avoid buying anything steam , cd key i can suffer . so i now find myself looking in my local games exchange shop for second hand games which pre date steam picked up some great games for peanuts id spend a great deal more if it werent for such draconian measures -
what no mention of the fact that if your internet connection dies for whatever reason you cant launch your games ! or no mention of the fact that the steam overlay uses around 900mb of hardware resources ,or the one that bugs me needing to seek permission from steam and sign in each time i want to play a game iv forked over my hard earned cash for , i think no one in their right mind would buy and car if they had to ask the sellers permission to drive it each day . all this is supposedly done to protect the IP of the publishers who know full well that the moment a game is released it gets cracked and uploaded to various torrent sites and who also know that within six months of its release sales take a steep drop the only reason i suffer it is because i love gaming . and lets not forget the fact that opening steam and allowing access tohrough your fire wall essentially puts your machine at risk as steam offers no protection from hackers or other internet nastys, also while im on a rant how many of you use credit cards to buy your goods via steam ? think its secure do you , think again twice to my knowledge has steam been attacked and lost sensitive personal information belonging to its customers . i can think of no worse a way of alienating the paying customer .

Random Crash during play
davycrockett replied to darkmage0707077's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
yep that is the one i was thinking of , and that address looks a little short to me no mention of steamapps etc , Hmmm ? C:\Program Files (x86)\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout New Vegas) default should look somthing like this x86>steam>steamapps>common>fallout new vegas now there is two reasons for this which im not gonna go into ,so im gonna leave it at that . also modified DirectX files are not digitally signed so that means Microsoft havent checked them for stability safety and integretity the use of which is ill advised . in my understanding these files force the hardware to run nearer their extremes much like red lining an engine might go pop might not ! -

New Vegas: ESP File Problems :(
davycrockett replied to davidgarypepper's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Have you tried installing outside of UAC ie not in program files x86 . Even Technet copies of win 7 dont like games inside x86 directory just create a folder labled "games" or "Steam" in the root of either C drive or better still on a secondary HD . ( keep that STEAMing piece of excrement away from program files too , its nothing but aggro ) because it sounds to me that UAC is doing its job and preventing unauthorised users from editing and saving the contents of x86 which is where critical windows files reside . -
"runtime error" possibly a directX or VCred issue update both through www.microsoft.com

Crash on start up for the game
davycrockett replied to a topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
which version of nvse are you using and which version of fnv4gb do you have ,there is a FNV4GB NVSE version which it looks like you may well need which requires a certain version of NVSE search the nexus mods for FNV4GB NVSE then toddle over to silverlock.org for the corresponding version of NVSE give that a whirl and post back results others can benefit from answered threads too . -
go to tweak guides.com the guide for fallout3 is usable on fnv due to having the same engine also LOD is sometimes referred to as "draw distance" might be worth checking out the nexus uploads for .ini tweaks or anything with draw distance in its title , thats all im giving you as this topic a real can of worms .

presna ,keep a hammer close to hand just in case those worms escape , but on another point recently i installed TYPE3M armor and body mod for FNV by MAK07 to FO3 and when messing about in the geck with megaton settlers and various other NPC,s was given a warning by the geck that "mod body data is missing for blah blah npc " which id edited with inventory/armor/appearence all of which had a perfect head body tone match when finished ? how exactly id provoked this response from the geck is still a mystery to me googling didnt help either but i suspect this seeminly automated response might have a manual activator somewhere within the geck , and a little bsa browsing led me to a whole batch of modbodydata files in the textures archive . may well be worth some poking around could be the holy grail of npc editing personnally i spend far too much time banging my head against walls fixing other peoples rigs and lack the enthusiasm these days for fixing and editing games . good luck with it and dont get like me squared eyed and dented brow .

your cpu doesnt meet minimum reqs 2.4ghz is the minimum for fallout3 id suggest an upgrade go on treat yourself hardware is dirt cheap at the moment
-
first off with NMC,s as im sure your well aware there are a few versions light medium and heavy are you sure your system spec is up to the challenge ? and even if it is most of the time tweaking of the .INI's is required to handle the additional load placed on the system by HD textures . did you follow NMC's instructions to the letter when installing Im certain the mod comes in the form of a multi part .RAR archive requiring you to extract from the first part and leaving it to do the rest itself ? (errors can occur doing it any aother way than specified) did you use WIN.RAR ? you could also try disabling any mod that relates to point lookout itself i see a point lookout shack mod there , maybe that one is conflicting ?
-
hello presna , well that is good news smells like success is looming and possibly a upload to the nexus from yourself .... gonna take a look see myself this mixed up race issue has been bugging me too for some time , a simple oversight from the devs or the rusty lid on a can of worms ? fingers crossed not the latter .

RH Ironsights mod- weapons not lining up,
davycrockett replied to Ssean's topic in Fallout 3's Mod Troubleshooting
this one is a bit of a mystery the best person to ask would be rouge hallow the creator of the mod if you check on the mods page you will find that the author has recently became aware of this issue and the cause of which is unknown a recent re-uploaded version fixed the issue for me , but first id suggest checking which version of FOSE you have and which is required . I personnally had the unfounded suspicion that it may of been related to a overhead 3rd person camera mod i was using which when removed had no impact . and it looks like your missing the RH_ironsights FWE bridge .esp , again check the mods page for more details .
