  1. Technically Mario is an RPG, you play the role of Mario or Luigi. There is no accurate definition for what an RPG is. Some define mechanics for JRPG and WRPG, others require choices.

But if its not mechanics than Dues Ex is not a RPG, or Fallout 3, NV, 4.

If its not choices than none of the final fantasy games are RPGs

  2. I'm not holding it against you or judging you in the slightest so don't worry  It's obvious with the amount of time you spent on your post that it was pure passion and good intention. I'm sorry you got a bit of backlash and people bringing you down and I hope I didn't add to that because honestly I'd love the same results but it's just such a messy situation. I think a lot of mod creators feel like, frankly, Bethesda just spat on them, again. They've been spurned and many were probably already wondering why they were bothering in the first place other than passion and determination. Bethesda have successfully united much of their own community in bitterness. The problem is, if we are willing to sort of buy our way out of this hole by giving Bethesda undeserved money at the cost of the modding community and frankly the future creative integrity of Bethesda, even if it is because we love Fallout 4 and hate to see it this way, it's kind of sabotaging the future for the here and now. I'd rather see Fallout 4 remain as it is, ever growing with mods but never getting worse, than see Bethesda nosedive off it into an even worse direction for the future. Maybe Fallout 4 has to "take the fall" so to speak.

Bethesda have enough bad practices as it is. I just bought the Season Pass because the prices are down. I wanted to buy just the bits of DLC I wanted and not the SP but that way, even only buying the "good" bits was much more expensive o_O May as well have the lot for much less. I feel bad for it though because ultimately all their figures are going to coming back with "everyone bought the season pass, resounding success, do it next time" despite the SP for Fallout 4 being a ripoff and a farce as far as many are concerned. Sure there are more bits of DLC so to speak but only 2 of them are the "proper" expansions people expected when they paid the price. So basically they've managed to spin a situation where the SP is a ripoff, but if you try to buy things individually it's even more of ripoff. So everyone regretfully buys the SP eventually and Bethesda will keep doing it. Euuuuuuuuughh.

I'd just put my faith in the community man. You never know what people will come up with as time goes by. Throwing Bethesda the ball these days is sadly a good way to get disappointed. We can and should absolutely try to stay positive about the future but unfortunately that means supporting good practices and avoiding supporting the bad where possible even if it stings a little. The Creation Club could turn out to be a fantastic thing. I'm not sure how, but if it did it'd be smiles all round. We can't ever really afford to essentially pay Bethesda to finish their own games later down the line though if that's the way it goes. It may sort of "salvage" Fallout 4 but it'd ruin Bethesda.

Most Mod Authors that have commented on it are either neutral or in favor of it, less than a handful have commented against it. The CC is not spitting on MAs at all. It's a benefit for MAs that want to make more content.

  3.

I think what he's saying is "So modders are wrong to try and sell their hard work, but youtube personalities are allowed to monetize their videos and even turn it into a job in some rare cases? Why aren't they called greedy for allowing ads to plague their work for money?"

Also, would Banksy be in the wrong if he sold reproductions and photos of his art, or even opened up a commission stall somewhere?

(And Pepsi is never called out for selling their soda, as no one in their right mind would argue that any beverage beyond water should be free)

The key difference in this whole argument about youtuber vs mod author is that youtubers don't charge people to watch their videos.

Imagine if youtubers got together and decided they would petition youtube to allow them to charge individuals if they wanted to watch their videos.

I would be willing to bet my entire savings account that every channel that participated in the program would vanish in under a couple months and youtube itself would enter a downword spiral as users fled the site in disgust. Hence the CC creates the exact same problems.

In fact most youtubers don't even earn most of their money from ads. They open merchandise stores and sell t-shirts and the like as a form of strings off monetization. In fact mod authors could actually learn a lot about good business practices from youtubers.

That has been a thing for years on Youtube. Paywall videos have been successful for over half a decade.

  4. Yall some entitled mother duckers up in here, acting like bethesda, mod authors, or anyone else owes you anything beyond the exact product you paid for.

If you dont want to deal with the CC, dont buy from it, dont apply for it, end of story.

  5. You people fail to realize that this is how contract work works in the real world. The CC is just a extension of that same work towards making continuous content for their titles. As for us Mod authors (not mod users) were given a chance to finally get in on the same work the professionals have been doing for decades now. CC was never focused on mod authors it was more of a tip of the hat inclusion for them, and a great way to provide a easy way into the game design field for hobbiests and new talent that cant get a job in it by traditional requirements.

  6. CC is a normal contract service for creative works, it works much the same way in every creative industry using outside contract services.

It is simply the business side is now being made more public/open in order to allow for more official content to be made for their two major titles, and upcoming titles.

It is going to be reviewed as a concept, and in each stage of development by a dedicated team at bethesda, Anyone can apply to join but you do need to have some work to show before hand, thus programmers, artists, and mod authors will have a good way to work with bethesda to make official content for a fee.

As mods are literally not official content, the CC is simply not mods. If it is official it is official, if it is not official, it is a mod.

As for "paid mods" in concept, yes it is rightly back and done proper, as it has been a successful practice for consumers, modders, and IP owner in other parts of the industry for nearly 20 years now. It is about time bethesda did it right to protect consumers and provide a method for hobbiests to transition into professional fields.

This does not effect you if you do not buy items on CC, it has no effect on existing mods. It does not take anything away from you end users. In fact you lost more from the rash of mod thefts than you ever would with "paid mods"

  7. First off, no one can port it over for you unless the author has given permission for them to do so as it is them porting it not for themselves but for others. If you want to port it for your own personal use, you need to use the CK. You've not said why you cant use it, which is suggestive that you might have torrented the game itself, which is going to make more people stand offish about helping you as well.

So you can either start giving details on your "issue" with the CK so ppl can help you fix it or you can contact the author of the mod and see if they would port it or allow someone else (anyone by announcement or someone by nomination) to port it.

  8. Man some of you ppl are out right stupid. You think you can compare a current release game to something a decade ago? Considering how "new" the IP was, how few games did open worlds, how much less there was in game releases overall. Yea invalidates your comparisons.

  9. All consoles charge a fee to update a game after the first initial update. That is why you dont see tons of quick fixes for none PC games. Sony considers modding the same as development(which it is) and thus would not offer the service for free. Bethesda has agreed to their terms.

  10. I've started playing New Vegas and the activity on the NV nexus is depressing, a lot of mods with stickies from 2011-2013 saying the author has moved on etc.

Anyone who thinks Fallout 4 modding is in decline should see what it's like there to compare.

Some things I am really missing from Fallout 4 in NV:

    > The NPC bodies.

    > Movement animation

    > Realtime conversations

    > Layerable apparel

    > the 3d inventory transforms instead of 2d icons

If they ever decide to patch NV to work with new CK I'll go back and do my storyline mod I lost years ago when a HD crashed. But yea, not looking to work with those old tools again.
