Rock climbing. This isn't a life simulator.. so we can't just expect rock climbing to be 100% realistic or any type of climbing for that matter. We can expect half realistic climbing, and climbing animations. Basically it would be three types of climbing. 1.) Rocks with different slopes all over the place. 2.) Buildings with minuscule ledges, usually in the form of wood or stone. 3.) Trees? stuff that goes straight up. 1.) Rocks you would only be able to climb up, or pull yourself up to the next slope if it is sloped upward. \ <-Rock - You-> :D So situations where the rock slope goes out over your head, you can't climb them. /. <- You(the dot) under the rock slope 2.) So long as you can reach the next one you ought to be able to do it; pull yourself up to the ledge. Although your stamina should be draining unless it is a ledge big enough to stand on. So if you aren't standing on it the next one had better be two arm's length away, or less. This should use stamina according to the distances being reached and the time you are simply holding onto one ledge not even reaching for another. When you run out of stamina, better hope you aren't outside of the life death threshold for falls... 3.) If you can reach your arms around it then why not. The problem will arise when you are in the leaves of the trees. I don't think there are any realistically modeled trees though, so it would be pointless to even have trees. Unless you are jumping from it to a cliff ledge. Who knows though, maybe somebody will decide to model some trees with branches, that way you can fell your foes from above. Death from above, it would be pretty cool as an archer... admit it!! ----------------------- Alright so those are the capabilities; these are the methods. There have been some suggestions and I will just compile them here. *Climbing Gloves - to climb up walls - Check out Thief 3 climbing gloves *Hiking Boots - to walk up an additional range of angles - Life *Grapple & Rope - to scale up walls to the rooves, bring a long rope - ^ *Dragon Taming - Show 'em who's boss - "like a boss"

For those of us who don't ever switch to third person in combat, but love the kill moves.. This is really simple, explanation-wise. When you kill something or somebody, so long as it is a finishing move that you are doing it with, you should switch into third person view. Time should be scalable as an option, that way those who want to can savour the final moment's of their foolish opponents. However it should be an option, as killing 20 rats with the same finishing move, in slow motion, WILL get annoying at times. (For the average 66.66% of people with normal brain wiring; I didn't just make up that number, grade 10 math: bell curves) Perhaps make a toggle for the mod, that way when things start getting too repetitive it can just be disabled to prevent grief.

I made the OP a little bit more readable while I was at it all.

I have one simple idea to redo the inventory system with. Think Neverwinter nights first of all. Bags, primarily magical bags. I would like to be able to carry my items in different bags. This would be a monumental modding task, I can't even imagine how one would go about rewiring the inventory system in such a way. Regardless though, having hammer space accessible simply through whatever pants pockets you have, or inside your shirt.. doesn't seem very realistic. The way NVN did it was drastically better. The actual navigation of the inventory however... Skyrim wins HANDS DOWN. Leave navigation alone, add bags. ^ My contribution ^

I agree that modders generally make mods with PC controls in mind. I was trying my best to be friendly while pointing that out. Didn't want to shoot the thread in the foot after all. I updated the OP.

I think that is a bit unfair to say. Just because some people are ignoring them doesn't mean all people are. I focus on whatever perks I have access to. I do a lot of thieving so I am at 40-50 pickpocketing. I just got my night hands or whatever it is called, so now when I lockpick a door and sneak in the middle of the night I can have a better chance of taking stuff from their pockets. Lockpicking I do ignore though.. I don't need the prerequisites all too badly since opening an expert lock doesn't take that much skill. The trick is lightly tapping until you find the sweet spot. Then use the grains on the lock itself to figure out how much farther to keep rotating when the pick inevitably breaks. They could have done SOOO much better with the locks. Back to the point, although I would agree requiring all the perks before the perk you want is annoying.. I wouldn't agree that useful perks get ignored. You just battle too much. I imagine this mod would be easy to make though, you'd just have to go through some of the scripts until you find the level up one. Anybody could do that, just go slow when you find it and are reading through. Then trial and error.

True, it wouldn't work for people who are using a controller, but key combinations would, now wouldn't they. :P As for the power attacks, I wouldn't want to be with out them either.. but they seriously piss me off. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to make a quick attack and it ends up turning into this long drawn out motion. I mean with dual wielding, the reason I picked dual wielding was so I could play as a rogue / thief and eventually add the arts of assassination in there. All of which are agile, quick in and out types of play. :ninja: I could get into a big debate over why this or that, but like I said I think the key combination is the best method. Those who play with a controller.. should have gotten a console. Just making the point; there are going to be LOTS and LOTS of mods that don't add new game mechanics to the game, and they should be very happy using them. Game mechanics often needs keys to be binded to though, so I can't say I feel sorry  for those playing with a controller yet want additional mechanics. If you have any ideas on how to make dual wield blocking possible for those with controllers perhaps you can suggest them. I will add them to the OP

I was upset when I realized I wasn't going to be able to block any attacks until somebody made a mod. I would also like to be able to evade by strafe-jumping out of the way; I guess I could just say by dodging, but that might inspire images of action movies where the hero jumps into the air while dodging an influx of bullets then begins to shoot of course. Getting off topic.. It is pretty simple, this is mainly about negating and avoiding damage. The list(can be added to) * Block * Parry * Riposte * Dodge 3.a, 3.b, and 1.c are my preferences on how dual wielding would be best improved. Combat in general actually. -------------------------------------------------- Controls: -------------------------------------------------- Section A Timing Based: Some of these are naturally going to be better solutions than others, but may not be easiest. This will be up to the mod creator to decide. It is not our place, but we can certainly get creative and try and solve the design ahead of time. 1.a) Tap the side you wish to block with Makes the ability to parry more difficult 2.a) Tap both sides at the same time Makes implementing the ability to parry more difficult 3.a) Tap Independent Key WITH Mouse(Post #6) Conditional outcome *L-Parry *R-Parry *LR-Riposte ~Wishful thinking aside, this may not be very believable due to animation limitations. If anybody can say contrary please chime in. Section B Trade Offs & Other 1.b) Hold the side you wish to block with Lose the ability to one hand power attack 2.b) Hold both sides down at the same time Lose the ability to power attack with both weapons at the same time ## (3.a & 3.b) are really meant to be implemented together 3.b.1) Hold Independent Key for Block(Reference: 3.a) - Two handed blocking only 3.b.2) Hold Independent Key WITH Mouse(Post #6) - Cooldown on attacking with the defending hand - Cooldown on attacking with the other hand if it was a power attack - Automatically jump to the side(Legend of Zelda style) after a power attack comes at you and you block it with one hand. The idea would be as soon as it makes contact with your weapon that you jump at the same time because you can't prevent all of the attack from doing harm without moving as well ~These are just some methods I've thought of to balance this method of blocking + make it more believable in all circumstances Section C Dodging 1.c) Double & Triple tap WASD Make a small jump in the direction you double tap or farther / faster by triple tapping 2.c) Press Action Key + Direction at the right time When you are about to be hit you have a short window to dodge out of the way =============== Balancing Concerns =============== Highlights -- Section A) The timing section is already balanced, as it requires an outside level of skill in order to apply. It will naturally be a bit of a challenge to master, and an even greater challenge to apply 100% of the time. Please raise any concerns of your own. 3.a) & 3.b) Three is by far the most flexible design; I saved the best for last. A and B should be implemented together, since they are really just extensions of one another. For balancing reasons it should be B.1 and not B.2 3.b.1) Since it is two hands for blocking only, I can't see how it would have any balancing issues other than the ones that come inherently with modifying the mechanics of the game in general. That is what for difficulty mods are for though, to make the game a bit hard to make up for things. I know that is what I would do if I could block. 3.b.2) It would require additional balancing because of the ability to block an attack with just one hand. Imagine a large Orc attacking you viciously with a battle axe, and you being able to block with just one hand, and a weapon while dual wielding. Being able to simply block the damage is unbelievable unless you're character's name is Hercules or Zeus, or maybe The Kraken. In my opinion, realism and believability trumps finely balanced mechanics; balancing is still important, and 3.b.2 would cross that threshold of importance. -- 1.b) One b has the same balancing issues as 3.b.2 It does, however, trade off power attacks for this ability.. so it isn't as unbalanced as 3.b.2 2.b) Two b is a bit more balanced compared to one b. You can only block one way, instead of two, and it trades off a two sided power attack for the ability to block. So any remaining balancing concerns are made moot by the fact you just traded your enemy being dead sooner for fending off his attacks for longer. --------------------------------------- Quick comments on Parrying. Since parrying and riposting are deflecting damage outright, and avoiding any damage(maybe not with ripostes, but it does damage the other person) With that said, I think it is only logical to force people to time them just right else have them attack. Since not every attack will have a suitable angle to have parried, I think it should have the person evade instead. Throw up a deflecting attack while dodging to the side. It doesn't really matter though since one way or another the enemies' attack still has to be analyzed. It would actually be best to just leave Parrying out of it all; I only mean this for the creation of it. It would be cool though.

Mighty Magic, restoration crash
cppcooper replied to cppcooper's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
Check for any mod that maybe altered something related to that. Some races alter birthsigns and/or spells. You said that it happens even when you start a new game with only Oblivion.esm and Mighty Magick - Core.esp active. Then maybe is OBSE the problem, try to reinstall it (overwrite the existing one, you don't need to uninstall it). PD: I suppose that you're using the 1.2.0416 SI patch. I mention it just in case xD ... Now that I think about it how old is that patch? maybe THAT's the problem, the last file of MMR is from january 2008 PD2: Did you installed these patches for MMR? Mighty Magick Reborn - Misc Spell Mod Compatibility Updates . You need them for Thieves Den and Knights Of The Nine I really appreciate this help! I did infact install all patches I could find.. I reinstalled the textures directory mmr has.. I also reinstalled obse and I also renamed my meshes, textures and menus directories before doing any of this I ended up figuring out that my menu directory was causing the problem. I don't know which file exactly, but it is fixed now. Lots of trouble I've had over these damn xml files. I still don't have the hud I want. Anyways, kudos for the help you were the most tailored to the problem. -
Mighty Magic, restoration crash
cppcooper replied to cppcooper's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
Uhh, thanks? If anybody has had this problem before and figured out what was taking place, please fill me in. Even theories are welcome. P.S. I am not touching my load order, as I've already eliminated it as a possibility, quite soundly I might add. I am a little confused as to why you asked for the load order even, you gave me your stock answer. I said this in a rather vague fashion, I've disabled ALL of my mods, created a NEW game, cast the spell and EXITED the game. Then I ENABLED MM Core, and created ANOTHER New game, cast the spell and had the game crash, NOTE I only enabled MM Core. Active mods in my list. Oblivion.esm & MM Core.esp You must have that saved somewhere to copy paste from A thought just occurred, is it possible for esp files to over time, become corrupt? It still appeared to have changed the things it was supposed to, but I can't see why it couldn't have only a part corrupt. P.S.S. My load order is already in order, I spent a week and a half deciding what mods ought to overwrite others, as well as what mods to get(period), thus why no psychic guards comes before ren, for one example. -

Whether or not any of these are active or not.. the only mod that creates the problem.. is mm core I also have found this much more out.. The second to last tab of spells, the ones where you lift up your hand to cast.. They are all crashing the game. Something to do with an animation or shader? I've already tried renaming the directory characters in the meshes directory. It still crashed, maybe there is something else I am not considering? It is all very strange, because this wasn't happening a few weeks ago, the last time I played. The only change is my HUD, but that shouldn't have any affect would it? -
I can't seem to figure out why with mm enabled my game crashes when casting a heal.. I am unsure if it is multiple spells, but at least the one. Why would it crash?

I can't seem to figure out any way to load huds into wz builder. I am still trying things to get my hud working again. Third attempt at solving it with a thread, different solution method. Anybody know how to load up xml hud files in the wz builder app?
-
I've got a DARNified hud, and then i've got the hud I actually want to use.. Now unfortunately this isn't as simple as replacing the darnified hud.. because this breaks elements of my game.. Sooo I need help. Suggestions? xml editor download URL? XML knowledgeable person who will take the files and combine them for me? please help?

What's You'r Favorite Place In Oblivion ?
cppcooper replied to reaper9111's topic in Oblivion's Spoilers
The West Weald is my favorite location in the game, with the right mods, it is simply a great place to go to explore a forest, look at the stars.. and harvest ingredients. It is full of trees and animals, it's the perfect place to go love nature when either it's too cold outside in real life, or your don't live by any forest. For me the brush is too thick where I live. -
That's Right! Steve Jobs is nothin' but a loser. Let's not forget me, who currently has grades in my electronic game design course ranging between 80 and 100. Nothin but a huge loser who will never amount to anything more than creating mcdonalds games, you know like those ones you used to get in cereal boxes. They were so terrabad! I think miss bite me meant, was abusers are losers. It just didn't roll off the tongue as nicely. I mean drug abuse is why drugs became illegal in the first place. I am unsure if that was the story behind prohibition, but I wouldn't doubt there to be lots of drunken brawls or what have you at the time. If anybody is wondering what all Steve laid his hands on, just go watch silicon valley. For anybody who hasn't got my simply point yet, stereo typing people who have used drugs is the same as calling an african-american a porch monkey, or a white person a honkey, a jewish man or woman a penny pincher, or paris hilton a angel. Judge not lest ye be judged. Anyways, I'm get back to my life. I felt the need to register soley to address that issue of judging people one does not know. Edit: err try to register, until realizing I had already registered a long time ago and just never use the forum.
