I really want to hear Ron Perlman voice "You . . . are a dog. A very good boy. But you're last game of stick . . . has gone terribly wrong" and then the music crescendo. Epic.

Can you use edit or snip to port poses NV to FO3?
jonas66 replied to jonas66's topic in Fallout New Vegas's GECK and Modders
I got it to work using Edit. I had to first remove all NV-specific references, which in this case was one cell that I had dropped a briefcase into. I had to change the Master from FalloutNV to Fallout3, and I did have to change the version to 0.940000, but it's working. I'll be taking pics for the title and uploading to the FO3 nexus either tonight or tomorrow. Of course, I also had to delete a few things that were NV-specific resources, but most of them were in both games. Appreciate the help. -
Can you use edit or snip to port poses NV to FO3?
jonas66 replied to jonas66's topic in Fallout New Vegas's GECK and Modders
Thanks for the tips. I haven't gotten around to it yet but I think I'll take the Edit approach since I'm more familiar with the program. Might also go ahead and compile some of my other mods to transfer over too, been meaning to for awhile, but such a pain to do it manually. -
I've been thinking of porting my pose pack, with a bunch of new poses, over the FO3 in addition to the NV release, but there's like 200 of them all together, including mine and some I'm releasing for a friend, and it's tedious as hell to manually enter all of them in. Is there a method to use TESSnip or FNV/FO3Edit to transfer them en masse?

What did you do for your best armor?

I made it. -
Which ending do you usually go for and why?
jonas66 replied to Dan3345's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Spoilers
I went, in heart, with the Independent ending, but not following the slides or canon, because I don't think it makes all that much sense given the available resources you should have by that time, but I agree that the Courier, a foreigner with uncertain mental stability, might not be the best fit. I envisioned the Courier leading the Battle of the Dam, overthrowing House, NCR, Legion, and then handing the reins over to her friends and the people of the Mojave to rule, using House's resources. Sending the Bunker Securitrons to help bolster the defense of the various communities and protecting the most vital trade routes. The people you meet forming a council with this roster: First Mojave Council Arcade Gannon -- Presiding Emily Ortel -- Vice President Veronica Santangelo -- BoS Ambassador to Elder McNamara Cass -- Crimson Cassidy's Caravan (obviously she takes over Crimson after McLafferty's arrested) Pearl -- Boomers Sunny Smiles -- Goodsprings Doc Henry -- Jamestown Marcus -- The Jamestown mutants Manny Ramirez -- Novac Sw-ank (ha, filter) -- The Families Judah Krieger -- Westside Julie Farkas -- Freeside Meyers -- Primm Crocker -- NCR Ambassador The Courier, meanwhile, purses other adventures (DLC), eventually settling in Big Mountain, which allies with the Mojave and further bolsters their strength. It bugged me that with all of the tech and power you could have available by the end, nothing in the slides suggested that it was every utilized to its full extent, and everybody just kind of gave up on any sort of unity. -
Interesting analysis, Charwo. I did some map-scanning when I was working on my comic, set largely at Big MT and in the Divide, about 17 years after the game (Independent New Vegas), and trying to place those things was pretty damned tricky. I wound up throwing the whole thing out the window and decided that for my world the Divide was in the remains of Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave AZ, because the roads and valleys worked with the topography, and I wanted it to be the Divide between the East and the West, being Legion land versus Mojave/California, and Big Mountain was built in the Mojave National Preserve or Providence Mountains, to allow close enough proximity between the two for their relationship during before the Great War. It nominally fits into the NCRs annexation plans, opening up a new trade route via I-40 E and Hwy 95 N. Doesn't really work with the game map or the full lore of the story but hey, I've always liked my version better anyway, haha.

Blender and Nifskope - mesh piece renders too dark
jonas66 replied to jonas66's topic in Fallout New Vegas's GECK and Modders
I think that was it, thanks. Had to look up the window instructions, but when I went into vertex paint mode they were painted a purplish hue, so I'm guessing that's going to be it. I can't quite figure out how to simply delete, but I did just repaint to white. Thanks! -
I'm kind of at a loss here, which doesn't happen all that often. I'm working on a new outfit, and I'm having some trouble with the way the mesh and textures interact. Here it is in nifskope. The issue is with the boots. There should be no reason for them to be showing up that dark. It's using a custom texture, but the color of the boot leather in the texture file is maybe just a shade darker than the loincloth and tights. There is something in the mesh property that is making it much darker, and I can't figure out what. I've erased the material settings and completely re-done them, but it doesn't change anything. The boots are from vanilla resources, cut out from one of the merc outfits. I can always switch out the boots, but I like this one for this set, and I'd like to know why it's doing this in case I run across it again in the future. Any ideas?

New file adding "wizard", tagging and more prominent content blocking
jonas66 replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
In response to post #8307686. I wouldn't say it's certain that they've all downloaded. The nude body freakout is certainly possible and applicable to both sexes. Gamefaqs has a moralizing post every two days about it, and that's just the boobs. We're just f'd up about sex and the body in general in the West, it seems. -
Actually, I got help from a friend. Strangely, I've had some problems importing fallout kf files into Blender at all. I can only export. But the fix wound up being deleting the initial keyframe from Backsteppo's rigged package (linked through his tutorial), then posing the skeleton, then going through the export process. But working now.

I'm trying my hand at making a number of new poses, because I'm starting a new comic and want to have the freedom to get the exact posing that I want. I did this successfully with one pose a few months ago, but I can't seem to replicate the success now. I've followed Backsteppo and C-3445's articles on pose creations to a hilt. http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Blender_create_and_add_custom_poses http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Blender_make_a_pose_for_Fallout_3 Trouble is that when I go activate it in-game, my character just vanishes for the duration of the pose. On a few occasions he pops back into view in the T-pose and floats through the floor. I'm not sure what I'm missing here. I've compared my kf files in nifskope to the working kf files from Few Poses, Backsteppo, Sari-D, etc., and I don't see any differences in values that should matter (or are even consistent between the other working poses). Does anybody have an idea as to what's going on here?

BLOG PIECE: Nexus moderation system overhaul, etiquette and ethos
jonas66 replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
An interesting read. Thank you for all the information, Dark0ne et. al. -
I'm trying to make a pose and an outfit piece that is specifically weighted to that individual pose, requiring me to import the pose file itself into Blender, and it's not working, I've looked around and thus far found nothing that will solve my issue. I can't seem to import kf files anymore. I remember doing it back with Oblivion in the past when I was working on weight painting for an outfit. But all of my settings appear to be correct, and every time I try to import the skeleton with the kf file I get "Attribute error: expecting a value between 1 and 300000" Reading the previous, it looks like keyframe reference ending, maybe. Not sure what the script means. I've tried multiple kf files from both Backsteppo's poses and Lostriders, and I get the same issue with all of them. I've got a cleaned skeleton by a modder from FO3, and still no dice. Second: I've also just made my own pose from scratch, but that's not working right either. The pose works in the game, trouble is that it's a lying down pose, but the character is still upright. I can't figure out how to rotate the skeleton right to make the character lay down in game. Fixed this. Case of changing the linked rotate values for one particular base bone. Still a problem with the import, though. If anyone could tell me where I'm going wrong it would be much appreciated.

Nah, just personal. I was actually looking to do a convert to the UNP of the basic nocturnal dress to pretty up the mages, since for some reason there doesn't actually seem to be one, just the tiny dress versions. I won't release anything unless I have a decent idea to run with, and I just don't get very many decent ideas for the fantasy side of things. Although I might release that, I guess, if there's no other mod that includes that.

Chortle. You want the long or the short version? The long version is 300 pages. (may contain some DLC Spoilers) Name: Kristina Calderon. Kriss for short. Hispanic Female, aged 25-26 during the events in New Vegas. 5'9" 130 lbs, black hair with hazel eyes. Sniper/melee, uses a sniper rifle and shishkebob. Driven and determine, but in ways naive and too trusting. Likes vodka but not to excess. Rejects the Legion's purpose and their methods, despises the NCRs stupidity and inability to execute or manage. Enjoys helping people to see their lives improve. Wants to create something strong, that can last. pic 1 Pic 2 She is James' daughter, and thus the lone-wanderer. She left the vault in search of him, but after she watched him die she left the Wastelands for a time and travelled to the Pitt. There, she met a man named Ulysses, who had come to the East for inspiration after losing hope in the Legion (after seeing Hoover Dam and the NCR and knowing how things would come to pass). After the events of the Pitt, the two became lovers, and she gives him the brand of the Old World Flag, in their joined desire to make something that could match the glory of the Old World. After liberating project Purity they fell into a war against the slavers of Paradise Falls, creating enough chaos to lose most of their other friends in the Capital Wastelands. After burning Paradise to the ground, sick of death, she retreated to Tenpenny Tower, and Ulysses followed her, despite feeling betrayed by her abandoning of their campaigns. His anger at the waste of resources in Tenpenny, and fury at her enjoying the softness there, causes him to turn on her, tricking her into giving him the key to the basement that he used to let in the ghouls and kill all of her friends. They fight and she nearly kills him, but spares his life not wishing to bring anymore death, and flees. After that, with nowhere left to go, she abandoned the Capital Wastelands, and made her way west, eventually (after several years) reaching the Mojave and becoming a courier. As part of her travels in the West, she stumbles upon a small burgeoning community in the Divide, and wishes to help them, walking the Wastes back and forth bringing them all of the supplies that they need from the Mojave. She is semi-adopted by a young girl there, and develops a relationship with the girl's father. Ulysses himself, lacking friends or family in the East, eventually returns, and discovers that he is following her trail. After rejoining the Legion, he is sent after Graham. But after destroying New Canaan he forsakes the Legion completely, and wanders for a time, eventually himself discovering the Divide, and seeing that it is her that is building something great there, which was always his own goal. Not wishing to repeat his mistakes in the East, he stays hidden in the shadows, protecting her. After a time, the town's fame starts to spread and becomes a large community, which attracts the attention of the NCR, who annex the Divide. They have her deliver a package to the Divide, unknowing. After she delivers the package and leaves, that package, Ed-E, destroys the Divide, her home, and all the people there that she loves. She sees this and flees back to New Vegas, where she loses herself in drugs, alcohol, and despair. Meanwhile, Ulysses sees the ruins of what he thought could be so strong, but was destroyed at what he saw as her carelessness and stupidity. He falls into despair and hate, and determines that he will eventually bring her back, to not allow her to run from what she did at the Divide. It is at that point that she is commissioned to deliver the platinum chip, and is ambushed by Benny. At this point, due to all the pain she's been through, she sees death as preferable to life, and laughs at the cemetery in Goodsprings. When Benny shoots her, her entire self is swept away, but three days later she awakes in Goodsprings, with no knowledge of who or what she is. The only thing she remembers are the shadows of two men, one Benny and the Platinum Chip. The other a dark man in a dark coat, who wears a Flag on his back, who she knows has something to tell her. The long version, if you're interested, is in the option files here: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/45444

How do you script the teleport function
jonas66 replied to jonas66's topic in Fallout New Vegas's GECK and Modders
I should note that at no time are these companions truly hired or fired in the normal sense. The aliens at least I've simply given 3 packages, the sandbox, the guard, and the follow. (I just followed foxtrotzulu's tutorial if that's not obvious :whistling:) I've got the status set in the script, the sandbox is the editor location, but the evp itself is set in the results script of the dialog choices. I did look at the vanilla npc ones, but maybe I was just checking the wrong one, because all I could see in results script for those dialog choices was a bunch of numbers like 1.10.05 ;return lucky 38, which didn't seem at all comprehensible. I'll check again though. -
I've recently made a couple of simple companion mods for some of the wacky dressed-creatures (6 aliens and 1 deathclaw), that I've made over the last span of time. They work fine, but I can't for the life of me, just by looking at related functions in the GECK, figure out how you go about scripting them so that they actually fade and teleport back to their standard sandbox location, rather than walking all of the way there. I've googled it and searched the GECK wikia, and did not find it, potentially due to keyword pollution with Teleporter Mods. The one I'd be doing it for initially is for the 6 aliens, each of whom has a separate sandbox location, so it's not a case of just pointing them all to the lucky 38, and they all run off of their own separate quests and quest scripts. Does anybody know either how this is done, or potentially a good tutorial that shows how to set this up?

I didn't do new, I actually did just duplicate the hispanic race, and it was still an issue, so I guess I'll just use NVEdit and see how things go. But yes, I'm aware of the issue with the body, having made quite a number of npcs before. Luckily, her skin is pale enough to not be trouble, and her outfit covers up all of the seams, so it shouldn't be an issue unless you remove her clothing, and I intend to make doing that as absolutely difficult for the casual gamer to do as possible. :pirate:

I'm trying to make a custom race, to put my character in as an npc into my compilation clothing and armor mod. Trouble is, and it's happened before, when I make any changes to any races in an esp, it screws up the hair, face, and body references for ALL races, and then my existing characters can't use the hairs from my beauty pack (Ling's, in this case). I don't want to make the file dependent on Lings or any other file. Adjusting the load order Does fix the problem, as long as I have a Ling's dependent esp I can put underneath the one I'm making, but that is not an optimal fix. Is there anything that I can do?
