  1. Thanks for the link, Rennn. :) That's some harsh rules you use for yourself though. I could never follow that with my mage builds. Then again, the only time I am downing potions is when I am running for my life, which is pretty much every encounter. I really have to stop making 100 hp pure mage builds. :psyduck:
  2. I'm more of a Conan the Barbarian style modder. That's why my characters are usually stuck wearing fur under wear or chain mail bikinis. I wonder if that would count as turning Skyrim into a manly sim?
  3. @rennn: Some people like their beth games vanilla. I like mine dirty, spicy and crowded.
  4. After starting a new game for the sixth or seventh time, I just run through the beginning without fighting anything because I am sick to death of hearing the same dialogue and going through the same dungeon. I really wish they allowed another character creation window at the exit like they did in Oblivion. edit: Whoops. Didn't see the "please no escape Helgan complaints." After words, I avoid Riverwood at first so that I can go on a minor rampage. I usually kill some old lady who lives alone in a hut somewhere nearby.
  5. I know what you mean about modding the game more than I actually play it. Equipment and beautification mods tend to be the second things I download for Bethesda games. The first of course are bug fixes. As such I tend to hit the 255 cap fairly regularly. On the plus side, the world looks like it is full of porn stars and there are enough houses to add several new cities.
  6. This is true though you can get away with only using two elements. I generally use fire as my primary mode of attack for short ranged combat and lightening for longer ranges. It is rare to find a monster immune to lightening and even more rare to find one immune to lightening and fire. I seldom use any frost spells except for fun and killing slaughterfish with Ice Storms.
  7. Fresh food can be found in dungeons that have been sealed for thousands of years. Candles not only burn forever, they can never be put out, even with the most powerful of magics. Dogs, humans and horses are perfectly legitimate sources of protein.
  8. I prefer lightening since the spells have a near instant travel time making airborne targets a lot easier to hit.
  9. Seriously? o_O Geeze. That would have been less jarring if you said it was the guy who plays Barney the purple dinosaur.
  10. I love BBB and real heels.
  11. Purell and alcohol wipes find frequent use in this house. Give me a few years and I may become one of those hypocondriacs who wear kleanex boxes as shoes. :P Seperate accounts provide a layer of protection for my PC with Skyrim installed but for the rest it is just more hassle than it is worth. One in the living room and the ipad see too much traffic to make it practical to switch constantly. Another one in the kitchen is a crappy Dell with windows vista that has enough problems turning on, much less switching log ins. The last one is an old XP machine that is used mostly as a bootleg NAS and occassional old MMO skill grinder through macros nowadays so it is largely left on all day. That of course only covers the house. I'd rather not log on period to most things while using public wi-fi hotspots, machines at my job or at the library. Not having the search box while lurking isn't the end of the world. It just means it makes it less convenient than the Nexus so I'll likely not bother using it as often as I normally would have.
  12. The only things we can really take away from Skyrim are 1) The Psijics have the eye of Magnus 2) The emperor is assassinated 3) Alduin is defeated. If you take past TES lore into account, the Dragonborn will most likely become a non-factor shortly after the defeat of Alduin. The civil war will likely be described as an on again/off again conflict, with Ulfric and Tullius both dying at one point or another and Skyrim becoming a fractured ruin for a time. The Thalmor or some other force will probably then overrun most of Tamriel, at which point some trigger happy noble or mage will introduce a magic doomsday device like the before mentioned eye of magnus. While this happens, the Dragonborn's progeny may multiply, spreading the power of the voice throughout Skyrim.
  13. So much for lore friendly. :P I wonder if Valve would consider making a full overhaul Mod of Portal. I imagine Dagon would love to get his four mits on that tech after all.
  14. The DB has always had hard luck in TES so anyone joining them should pretty much expect the group to be hit harder than any other guild in the game. Honestly, I can't remember a time when the DB doesn't get wiped out in a TES game.
  15. Whenever I have trouble with a boss I just bring a follower, a dog and/or a summons or two. If you don't want to bother with raising the conjuration tree or getting followers, you can always use a scroll to summon backup.
  16. I always liked the name "Hatred's heart" from an easter egg daedric mace in Oblivion. Perhaps something along those lines would fit like Wyrm's Hatred or Hatred's Call.
  17. Unless you are planning to use 100% magic cost reduction, I recommend a more or less even split between magic and health. If you are going for 100%, then you can opt to focus on health and maybe some stamina if you plan on doing a lot of melee. Unless you devote a fair amount into stamina, you'll probably want to take advantage of the steed stone to lighten your loads from the armor and lack of carrying capacity. If you go for destruction, you'll either need to get the impact perk or invest heavily in mana potions/cost reduction. I built a pure mage with all upgrades going into magicka and destruction perks but I still often found myself empty before killing one monster on master mode.
  18. Wylandriah, the Riften Court Wizard. I like weirdos.
  19. It really depends on how much crafting you are willing to engage in and if you want to incorporate stealth in your build. If you are into enchanting and unafraid of using exploits, then destruction and restoration combined with magicka cost reduction enchants are good skills. Shock is a good school to be proficient in since travel times for the spells are much faster than most, making it easier to nail long distance and moving opponents. If not, Conjuration is a must as it is the most efficient in terms of costs. If you want to be stealthy, light armor is preferable. If you plan on smithing and using melee weapons, you may want to do heavy armor instead since the best weapons in game generally use the heavy armor materials.
  20. Wow. When I logged off yesterday, it looked like very few stuck to only lore friendly mods. Now its almost 50/50. I considered adding more options in the vote but I figured it was better to have people post their opinions on their position. Chances are I wouldn't have thought of them all anyway. It still weirds me out to see people say they don't use lore unfriendly mods because they break immersion. I guess some people just don't see the humor in fighting Macho Man dragons while dressed as Mario using a light saber.
  21. @Cracktower: Better to be safe than sorry. To me, letting people on my machines without making sure my personal info isn't one click away makes about as much sense to me as unprotected sex in a bordello. Hell, the analogy isn't even that far off. God knows how many porn sites three guys can go through on the same network. I'm sure you'll never encounter that problem though. :whistling:
  22. I'm of the opinion that Markarth is a honeytrap. Everyone wants in but all it leads to is death. After the abandoned house and the cannibals, I decided if any place in Skyrim should be wiped off the map, it is Markarth. If Ulfric really did commit genocide on the foresworn and their allies, if they were anything like they are out in the wild, pillaging, mutilating and worshiping cannibal hagravens, then the only thing he did wrong was that he didn't do a thorough enough job.
  23. I really do wonder if there will be another standalone TES game. For the longest, Beth has been complaining that the market for big budget games has been shrinking. All the simplification and corner cutting in Skyrim had me thinking that Beth may be looking into turning it into an MMO the way Kingdoms of Amalur was originally planned to be.
  24. I have four computers at home and an Ipad. Only one of them has Skyrim but all of them gets used by various family members and friends. I'd rather not have one of the more unruly members deciding to cause some mischief with any of my accounts because they saw that I'm still logged in. If I go to a public library or use a friend's/coworker's computer, I really do not want to log on to anything if I don't have to. Not needing to be logged on to use a feature does have its advantages.
  25. I've always found it strange to see people who refuse to use mods unless they are lore friendly. I personally like a good wacky lore unfriendly mod every now and then, especially if I have already logged hundreds of hours in the same game. For me it is a good showcase for the skill of the modders while extending the shelf life of a game. Why stick to only lore friendly mods? Is there any reason to do so besides a desire to maintain and enhance immersion? After you finish the game, do you just look for more lore friendly mods, consider using any mods or just move on to another game?
